Mnuchin presents new relief debit cards, shows Trump an example of one with Trumps's name.

I can't tell from the presentation if all the cards will have Trump's name, or if the mocked up a card with Trump named as the cardbearer.

"Mr. President, we now have developed debit cards, so in an effort to expedite money to people in an even quicker safe way, I'm please to show you what a debit card looks like with your name on it, Mr. President."

Powerful. 2016 Obama: "I Didn't Create Trump"

Prescient. I heard this on my earbuds and thought it might be fresh, like this week, but it's from four years ago.

Very thoughtful essay: "Ahmaud Arbery Holds Us Accountable"

Ahmaud Arbery Holds Us Accountable
by Jim Barger, Jr.

Nobody belonged to the salt marshes of coastal Georgia more than Ahmaud Arbery. His family’s roots there run more than 200 years deep. A native of those same marshes writes about who Ahmaud was, how well he was loved, and what his community must reckon with in the wake of his murder.

On Sunday morning February 23, 2020, I walked into darkness to the creek behind my home to watch the daybreak, new in all its glory. It’s a habit of mine. The sun rose in streaks of color over the vast spartina marshes somewhere beyond the distant waves, lapping the shores of this barrier island deep in the recess of the Georgia bight where I was raised, where my wife was raised, where her people have been raised for generations as far back as folks can remember — where together we are raising our two young sons. The tide was coming in at that golden hour, creeping across the fecund mud flats, sending fiddler crabs scurrying for cover. By the time Ahmaud Arbery had been murdered on a mainland street that afternoon at the southern end of our county, the tide had fallen again. Our dramatic tidal changes are shocking to those who aren’t accustomed to them. The murky saline water ebbs and flows, rising and falling, pulsing with the ancient rhythms of the moon.

Ahmaud Arbery was from here. He descended from one of the oldest families in coastal Georgia, one of the oldest families in America for that matter. I know his relatives, personally, and I know their history. As we say in the South, “I know his people.”

About the Bitter Southerner:
"After the 2016 presidential election, we promised to go deeper in our coverage, to call out those who would deny the rights of — or commit violence against — anyone they see as “the other.” We pledged to raise hell on the folks who deserve it, and at the same time to try our best to understand our region better, even if that means confronting the distasteful. But the essence of The Bitter Southerner remains exactly as we put it that August night in 2013:

If you are a person who buys the states’ rights argument … or you fly the rebel flag in your front yard … or you still think women look really nice in hoop skirts, we politely suggest you find other amusements on the web. The Bitter Southerner is not for you. The Bitter Southerner is for the rest of us. It is about the South that the rest of us know: the one we live in today and the one we hope to create in the future."

PSA: I was tested yesterday for Covid-19, results returned this today are negative, I'm virus free.

Virus free for now, at least. Kiss me!

Now the PSA part:

The nasal swab test is not 100% reliable (they have to tell you that) but only shows active infection.

The antibody test type would show if you had a past infection, symptomatic or not.

One really needs both tests as neither one provides the full picture.

Accordingly, if we want to treat this seriously, we need to provide both forms of testing to all citizens, starting with first responders and medical staff, then moving quickly toward essential public services staff like teachers and care providers, and down the line. We should have been doing this from the beginning.

I was tested as a member of a risk category, age and medical history.
Stay well, stay in, but stay politically active.
Oh, and get out the damned vote.

Costco has a new mask required policy. Sharon is not pleased. Costco responds. (updated)

Update: appears to have been created for entertainment purposes per Snopes. I still think it's good for a smile.

Well played, Costco. Well played.

New Title IX regulations no longer require coaches to report sexual misconduct

This is on Trump. Fuck.

New Title IX regulations no longer require coaches to report sexual misconduct

Betsy DeVos, Secretary of Education, released new federal regulations that no longer require coaches to report sexual misconduct.

The U.S. Department of Education, led by education secretary Betsy DeVos, announced new Title IX federal regulations that change requirements on who must report sexual assault allegations and how institutions respond to those complaints.

The adjustments, outlined in a 2,033-page document and set to go into effect Aug. 14, no longer require coaches and other employees at colleges and universities to report allegations to the Title IX office. They also give schools a choice in what standard of proof they’d like to follow, bolster protections for the accused and require live hearings and cross examinations.
