WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) - Women feel more secure and sleep better if they have a pet dog in the bed, according to a new study.

The study, published in the Journal of the International Society of Anthrozoology, collected data from 962 adult women, 55 percent of which shared the bed with at least one dog, 31 percent with at least one cat, and 57 percent with a human partner.

Researchers found dogs who slept in their owner's beds, "were perceived to disturb sleep less and were associated with stronger feelings of comfort and security."

Cats, however, are a different story. Researchers noted the the cats were, "equally as disruptive as human partners," and were, "associated with weaker feelings of comfort and security than both human and dog bed partners."

Lawyers appealing former archbishop of Adelaide Phillip Wilson's conviction for covering up child abuse have argued that convincing a child to perform a sex act did not constitute indecent assault in the 1970s.

Wilson was convicted in May of concealing the indecent assault of a boy by paedophile priest Jim Fletcher in the Hunter region of NSW.

The court found that in 1976 the victim confided in Wilson that he had been sexually abused, yet Wilson failed to report it to police when Fletcher was charged with other child sex offences in 2004.

Wilson is currently serving a minimum sentence of six months' home detention, but is persisting with an appeal of his conviction.

The native of the Dominican Republic is a strong candidate to make the Hall of Fame. His 3,166 hits rank 16th all time and are the most among foreign-born players, as he passed Ichiro Suzuki for that distinction this past season. Beltre is a four-time All-Star selection, winning six Gold Gloves and four Silver Sluggers while also compiling 477 home runs, 1,707 RBIs and a career .286 batting average.

He has never won a World Series ring.

At the end of the 2018 season, he ranked first among all active players in hits, games played (2,933, 14th all time), at-bats (11,068, eighth all time) and plate appearances (12,130). He was second among active players in home runs, RBIs, WAR (95.7, 38th all time), runs scored (1,524, 64th), doubles (636, 11th), total bases (5,309, 14th) and extra-base hits (1,151, 14th).

ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Redskins will sign quarterback Mark Sanchez to back up Colt McCoy, multiple sources told ESPN.

Starting quarterback Alex Smith broke the tibia and fibula in his right leg during Sunday's 23-21 loss to the Houston Texans. McCoy, in his fifth season with Washington, will start in Smith's place, but the Redskins had no other quarterback on the roster or even on the practice squad. They opted for Sanchez from a group that included E.J. Manuel, Kellen Clemens, Josh Johnson and T.J. Yates.

Sanchez does have several ties to Washington from his five years with the New York Jets. Redskins passing game coordinator Kevin O'Connell was a backup quarterback for parts of three seasons with the Jets during Sanchez's time there. Redskins offensive coordinator Matt Cavanaugh was the Jets' quarterbacks coach from 2009 to 2012. And Redskins offensive line coach and assistant head coach Bill Callahan held the same title for three seasons during Sanchez's Jets tenure.

Sanchez, the fifth overall pick in the 2009 draft, offers the Redskins veteran experience. He has started 72 games and six more in the postseason. He has thrown 86 touchdown passes and 86 interceptions in his career and owns a career 73.9 passer rating and a 40.2 QBR.
