The Bible may become the official state book in West Virginia

Yes, this is 2017, in case you are wondering! Even worse, it is a Democrat who has proposed the legislation.

CHARLESTON, WV (WCMH) — Lawmakers want to make the Holy Bible the official state book of West Virginia.

Lawmakers introduced House Bill 2568 Tuesday to the legislature to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, by adding a new section, designated §2-2-14, making the Holy Bible the official state book of West Virginia.

The bill was introduced by Delegate Jeff Eldridge (D), and sponsored by Delegates Rodighiero, Maynard, Miller, R., Marcum, White, Hicks, Storch, Hamilton, Dean and Westfall.

It was introduced to the House Judiciary committee.

Pineapple on pizza. Yes or no? Iceland's president wants to ban it!

I LOVE pineapple on pizza. Love it! With or without ham. The salty cheese and sweet pineapple combo is terrific. It does seem to be a topic that polarizes people. It's rare to hear, "I don't care," when you ask someone if they like pineapple on pizza, it's usually "Yes" or "No way."

Iceland's president definitely falls into the latter category.

Faced with uproar at home and a social media storm abroad, the president of Iceland has been forced to clarify his outspoken stance on one of the defining questions of the age: whether pineapple should be allowed on pizza.

Last week, answering questions from pupils at a high school in Akureyri, Guðni Th. Jóhannesson said his favourite football team was Manchester United and he was “fundamentally opposed” to pineapple on pizzas.

The president then went further, saying that if he could, he would ban the tropical fruit as a pizza topping. Understandably, Twitter and half the world’s online media went into overdrive.

The Lakers are now truly Magic's team; Kupchak, Jim Buss out!

Well, Magic and co-owner Jeannie Buss are running the show. Magic overseeing the day-to-day operations.

The Los Angeles Lakers have named Hall of Famer Magic Johnson as their new president of basketball operations while firing both longtime general manager Mitch Kupchak and executive vice president of basketball operations Jim Buss.

"Today I took a series of actions I believe will return the Lakers to the heights Dr. Jerry Buss demanded and our fans rightly expect," Lakers president and co-owner Jeanie Buss, Jim's sister, said in a statement Tuesday. "Effective immediately, Earvin Johnson will be in charge of all basketball operations and will report directly to me. Our search for a new General Manager to work with Earvin and Coach Luke Walton is well underway and we hope to announce a new General Manager in short order. Together, Earvin, Luke and our new General Manager will establish the foundation for the next generation of Los Angeles Lakers greatness."

At 19-39, the rebuilding Lakers have the NBA's third-worst record and the second-worst record in the Western Conference. They're coming off a franchise-worst 17-65 season and have missed the playoffs for three straight seasons, the longest postseason drought in franchise history.

Johnson was drafted by the Lakers in 1979, won five titles with the franchise during the 1980s and recently re-joined the Lakers in an advisory role. Johnson has held titles with the Lakers in the past, including honorary vice president, which he resigned from in June. He has also previously owned shares in the team, which he sold to Dr. Patrick Soon Shiong in 2011.

DU fantasy baseball

I'm cross-posting this for higher visibility. There's a thread just like this one in the baseball sub-forum.

There doesn't appear to be a league, at least from my Google search of this forum. Why the hell not? We had a successful fantasy football season.

I'm determined to round up enough participants to form a 12 to 14 team DU fantasy baseball league. I'll even organize the darn thing (for the first time, so be warned!). Probably through Yahoo because I'm familiar with that site from having played before.

Please indicate below if you're interested. If the response is poor, I'm going to be sending lots of DU private messages to the regulars in the baseball and sports threads.

C'mon boys! Step up!

David Cassidy has dementia

The 66-year-old former star of The Partridge Family had raised concerns when he forgot lines at a recent concert and was acting erratically.

David Cassidy's tragic family history of dementia has always haunted him; and now it's here. The former star of TV's The Partridge Family said Monday he is battling the memory-destroying brain disorder.

Cassidy's representative, Jo-Ann Geffen, confirmed to USA TODAY Monday that Cassidy, 66, has been diagnosed with dementia.

He acknowledged the diagnosis in an interview with People magazine, saying he watched his grandfather struggle with dementia and saw his mother “disappear” from it as well.

"I was in denial, but a part of me always knew this was coming," he told the magazine.

1 in 4 Canucks favor Trump-style travel ban

And another 41% say they want refugee settlement to slow in Canada. At least the majority are pleased with Canada's refugee efforts and/or want them to be ramped up.

That said, the comments at the bottom of the story are mostly from the vocal minority.

A "significant segment" of Canadians say Canada's 2017 refugee target of 40,000 is too high, while one in four Canadians wants the Liberal government to impose its own Trump-style travel ban.

Those are just two of the findings in a new Angus Reid Institute poll that looked at Canadians' attitudes toward the federal government's handling of refugees.

"We tend to, when we are looking at numbers, look at the majority view. But the fact that one in four Canadians are of the mind that we should be looking to our own travel ban is significant and is part of a red flag that is starting to emerge in terms of refugee policy," said Shachi Kurl, executive director of the Angus Reid Institute.

Overall, 47 per cent of Canadians surveyed said Canada is taking in the right number of refugees, while 11 per cent said 40,000 is too low and Canada should take in more. But 41 per cent say the 2017 target is too high and fewer refugees should be allowed to enter the country.
