Born To Run The Numbers, with its contrarian view, sees a different reason behind the Op-Ed in The New York Times

Excerpts: No one wanted to precipitate a constitutional crisis? Huh? I dont buy this for one second. Cheap Throat uses this justification to rationalize the insurgents decision to not invoke the 25th Amendment, but their solution is to slow-jam a coup...
"Heres a different theory altogether. Perhaps Cheap Throat undertook this entire exercise to educate the population of the United States of America on the profound flaw in the Twenty-Fifth Amendment...
"And this is where the essential flaw in the 25th Amendment becomes apparent. The entire functionality of the amendment rests on the agreement of one person
a person who is inevitably intensely biased by virtue of his or her proximity to the human being who is president and to the presidency itself...
"It is an interesting thesis: that the entire purpose of the Op-ed was to point out the flaw in the 25th Amendment, and then create a situation in which Pence would have the perfect motivation to employ it."

BTRTN August 2018 in Review: Seven Days in Mayhem
Born To Run The Numbers's monthly review of an August that was bad even before August 21 triggered "seven days in mayhem."
http://www.borntorunthenumbers.com/2018/09/btrtn-august-2018-month-in-review-seven.html
Excerpts:"The historical significance of the Trump administration may well prove to the existential battle between the rule of law and a president who does not respect it. If so, August is sure to be recorded as a month in which both sides brandished their weapons as the United States careened toward what seems to be an inevitable showdown between unbridled executive power and the efficacy of checks and balances to contain it...
"It appears increasingly possible that Donald Trump will try to shut down the Mueller investigation. It remains unlikely that he would try to act on this before the mid-terms, as that would risk further damaging his partys prospects in the election. Yet he has to be conscious of the fact that the longer he waits, the more time he is giving Mueller to develop evidence, explore plea deals, secure indictments, and put together his final report...
"Within the narrow time frame of major headlines surrounding Manafort, Cohen, Sessions, and McGahn came the sad news that Senator John McCain had elected to end treatment for brain cancer. The President took the occasion of the widely-revered Senator's passing to fully demonstrate that he is a small and bitter man indeed. As glowing tributes to the genuine military hero and former Republican Presidential candidate cascaded across the airwaves, Trump grumpily folded his arms for 48 hours and refused to say a word about McCain until shamed into doing so. In short, the month of August culminated with Seven Days in Mayhem."

BTRTN: Dear Donald, Junior...
Born To Run The Numbers with some urgent advice for Donald Junior from outside the Trump bubble...
http://www.borntorunthenumbers.com/2018/08/btrtn-dear-donald-junior.html
"First, your Dad is telling people that you never told him about the Trump Tower meeting. In his August 5 tweet, your father took pains to make sure that the buck stops with you. He ended the tweet with an emphatic 'I did not know about it.' So if someone ends up going to jail because of that meeting, who exactly does your Dad think it should be? But that's not all, Junior. Your Dad's got you coming and going. After claiming that no one told him about the meeting before it happened, he offered that huge weasel -- that to the "best of his knowledge," nothing happened after. So if there was any follow-up, well, your Dad is putting all that on you, too...
So you need advice about how to navigate the very dangerous waters that lie ahead, perhaps from someone who isnt named Trump, owned by Trump, controlled by Trump, or lackey to Trump. Heres mine. Your father is a corrupt, soulless, amoral cheat, but thats not the part that bugs me. What bothers me is that he appears to be ready to flush his flesh and blood down the toilet to save his own butt. It seems to me that he has already communicated what his choice will be when it comes to saving his skin or yours...
He knew about the meeting, Donny. You told him about it. You may soon be asked about this exact issue under oath. When they ask what you know, do the right thing. Tell the truth. Thats all the advice you need."

BTRTN: It's My Pardon and I'll Try If I Want To
Born to Run the Numbers on Tuesday's two courtroom outcomes... and why Trump is more worried about Manafort than Cohen.
http://www.borntorunthenumbers.com/2018/08/btrtn-its-my-pardon-and-ill-try-if-i.html
Excerpts: "If you want to know what has Trump seriously agitated, compare his reaction to the two seismic court cases... All Michael Cohen got from the Big Orange was a sarcastic late morning tweet: If anyone is looking for a good lawyer, I would strongly suggest that you dont retain the services of Michael Cohen! Manafort, on the other hand, was treated like a returning prisoner of war...
"It is his mantra: 'no collusion, no collusion, no collusion!' It is as if Donald Trump himself is setting out to narrowly define the only possible finding that should be of any consequence, the only act that rises to the level of a 'high crime or misdemeanor.' In Trumps world view, if Mueller were to find evidence of money-laundering, bank fraud, or that he paid for the silence of a porn star, none of that should matter. That is not what Mueller was charged to find. Evidence of those crimes would be tossed aside by Trump as evidence of the witch hunt. You can practically hear him: Biased Mueller was supposed to investigate collusion, and couldnt find any, so he is trying to reverse the 2016 election by searching through ancient history and digging up other things that dont matter to the American people...
"So there you have the tale of two tweets. In the Cohen tweet, Trump was essentially sending word to his base that he wasnt worried about his former lawyer. But in the Manafort tweet, he was talking directly to his now convicted former campaign manager: Dont worry, big guy. I still love you. Dont forget the promise I made. Stay with me, baby.

BTRTN: The New Polarization: Trump v. Trump
Born To Run The Numbers on the polarization within the Trump administration, Trump family, and Trump's own brain:
http://www.borntorunthenumbers.com/2018/08/btrtn-new-polarizationtrump-vstrump.html
Excerpts:
"Its real. Its a hoax. Its happening now. Its fake news. Its a threat to our democracy. Its a witch hunt. Its a bad thing! Its a good thing! Two extreme positions on the same issue, embraced and ardently advanced on the exact same day by the Trump administration...
"Finally, with Trumps August 5 tweet de grace, we see in full the no-holds-barred confrontation between Donald Trump and himself. The pretzel of logic from a year of spinning, changing, and getting caught in lies goes something like this: I actually did dictate the press release that I did not dictate, the June 9 meeting was not about the adoption issue that I said was the only purpose of the meeting, Donald Junior did meet with Russians about securing the dirt on Hillary that I have said there has never been any collusion about, and, I, Donald Trump, did, or did not, know anything about this meeting...
"The king of the Space Force is tethered to the mother ship by a copper wire internet connection that can only upload 288 characters at a time but cannot download factual information. It is not simply that he is governing in a land of his own imagining, where walls of mirrors allow contradiction, inconsistency, and outright falsehood to not simply co-exist but to thrive. Nor is it that he is merely making up everything as he goes along. It is that he is doing both very badly."
