Democratic senators asked FBI to investigate Jeff Sessions for perjury

Source: ABC News

Two Democratic senators revealed that they asked former FBI Director James Comey to investigate Attorney General Jeff Sessions for perjury stemming from his confirmation hearing testimony.

Sens. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and Al Franken, D-Minn., issued a joint statement today alleging that Sessions had "provided false testimony" regarding his interactions with Russian officials.

"He made no attempt to correct his misleading testimony until The Washington Post revealed that, in fact, he had at least two meetings with the Russian ambassador during the 2016 presidential campaign. Yet the attorney general never fully explained or even acknowledged the misrepresentations in his testimony, and we remained concerned that he had still not been forthcoming about the extent of his contacts with Russian officials," the joint statement reads.

"We served with the attorney general in the Senate and on the Judiciary Committee for many years. We know he would not tolerate dishonesty if he were in our shoes. If it is determined that the attorney general still has not been truthful with Congress and the American people about his contacts with Russian officials during the campaign, he needs to resign," the joint statement reads.

Pat Robertson: Melanias Nude Pics Are Pure Art That Shows The Beauty Of Gods Work

Most Trump supporters struggled to justify or explain Melania Trump’s blatant plagiarization of a Michelle Obama speech from 2008, but evangelical rambler Pat Robertson found a pretty easy way to distract from all of that. Instead of talking about the bubbling lifted-word scandal, Robertson talked at length about Melania’s “poise” and “beauty.” Robertson referred to Melania solely based on her physical appearance, and somehow managed to praise Donald Trump for his choosiness, rather than praising Melania for being, well, Melania.

The televangelist at one point even commented on the potential new First Lady’s nude pictures published in a now defunct French magazine. “I won’t go so far as to be inappropriate since that’s not my style, but I will say that Mrs. Trump is a gorgeous lady and a renowned European model. And we can say whatever we want about Donald Trump, but the man has got an eye for women, especially ones that are drop-dead gorgeous like his current wife,” he said. “And you know, I’m against nudity in the media because I don’t think that’s the right way to promote oneself, but I’ll tell you, Mrs. Trump’s pictures are en epiphany for men around the world, and especially for her husband.”

Asked to elaborate on his take on the naked pictures in question, Robertson argued that the best part about them, “aside from the obvious beauty of Mrs. Trump,” was the fact that they “were not vulgar,” and that they represent “art in its truest form.” “I’m certainly no expert, but if you look at ancient art and the renowned artists of the ancient times, they all somehow focused on the beauty of the human body,” the televangelist said. “And in that regard, Melania Trump’s pictures are no different. In my mind, those pictures emphasize the all the beauty and glory of God’s work, since after all, we were all made in His image. And I dare say, God was obviously particularly careful and inspired when He was sculpting Mrs. Trump.”

Robertson's a bit of a wanker.

Bowen: Abortions decreased Thanks To People Praying During Intercourse

The executive director of Iowa Right to Life insisted this week that a dramatic drop in abortions in the state was unrelated to the use of birth control because contraception had a “huge failure rate.” Figures released this month by the Iowa Department of Public Health showed that abortions in Iowa had dropped 40 percent since 2007.

At the same time, birth rates in the state have remained steady, suggesting that the drop was not linked to women choosing to carry their pregnancies to term instead of having abortions. Planned Parenthood spokesperson Penny Dickey told KCCI that abortions began dropping at the same time that more women began using long-term contraception, such as IUDs and hormone implants.

But Jennifer Bowen, the executive director for Iowa Right to Life, asserted to KCCI that abortions were becoming rarer because of an increase in the number and intensity of people’s prayers to not get pregnant, as well as that “Iowans have finally started getting in touch with the man upstairs.”

“Hawkeyes are a strange breed, and proof of that is the fact that as soon as they started praying more frequently and vigorously, the man upstairs started listening,” Bowen asserted. “To be quite honest, I could not be happier right now, because I have been trying to get people to have more faith in religion for ages, and finally it’s working.”

Stunner! Russia Today appears to agree with Donald Trump!

Trump says he had ‘absolute right’ to share data on 'flight safety & terrorism' with Russia

Donald Trump said he wanted to discuss “facts” with Russia, ranging from airline safety to terrorism, during last week’s White House meeting. A Washington Post story has accused him of revealing classified information to Russian officials.
In a tweet, Trump said he had an “absolute right” to discuss these matters with Russia, noting that the conversation was held at an “openly scheduled” White House meeting.

The “facts” discussed included terrorism and airline flight safety, according to Trump, who noted that he wants Russia to “greatly step up their fight” against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

Trump sent out the tweets after a Washington Post story accused him of revealing highly classified information to Russian officials during last week’s Oval Office meeting.

"We had a very, very successful meeting with the foreign minister of Russia," Trump said on Tuesday, answering a question at a White House event with Turkish President Recep Erdogan. "We want to get as many to help fight terrorism as possible. And that's one of the beautiful things that happening with Turkey."

The claims in the Washington Post have been refuted by multiple White House officials, including National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster.

“The premise of that article is false,” McMaster told reporters at the White House on Tuesday, adding that Trump shared information with the Russian foreign minister in the way that was “wholly appropriate” to the discussion about IS threats.

The president was never briefed on the source of the information he shared, McMaster added.

Donald Trump's disastrously bad week in Washington

(CNN)Donald Trump's week started with Sally Yates' damning testimony about Michael Flynn and ended with a series of wild tweets and an ever-changing story about exactly why he chose to fire FBI Director James Comey.

Even by Trumpian standards, the wild swings, erratic messaging and general chaos was beyond the pale -- raising real concerns about whether Trump was losing control of the ship of state.

Start with the testimony of Yates, the one-time acting attorney general, to a Senate subcommittee Monday. She made clear that on two occasions -- once on January 26 and then again on January 27 -- she sought out White House counsel Don McGahn to warn him that national security adviser Michael Flynn had been compromised by the Russians and was a blackmail risk. Trump didn't fire Flynn until 18 days later -- a seemingly inexplicable amount of time given the allegations against him.

On Tuesday -- even as Trump's White House was trying to find an explanation for that 18-day gap -- Trump stunned the political world by firing Comey. He did so by having his former bodyguard deliver a hand-written letter -- in which Trump asserted that Comey had told him on three occasions that he wasn't under investigation(!) -- to the FBI. Comey was in Los Angeles at the time, finding out of his firing the way the rest of us did: on TV.

Trump's White House was entirely unprepared for the firestorm that erupted -- likely because they, like the rest of us, had no idea it was coming. The initial spin offered by the White House, from Vice President Mike Pence on down, was that Trump had acted "decisively" after reading a memo from deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein that hammered Comey for his conduct in the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server.

Solemn Promise. After this election is over ..

.. I will not watch cable news for at least a year. They have done nothing to deserve my (or your) continued support.
