Native Americans Need Hillary to Actually Be An Ally Against the Dakota Access Pipeline

. . .
Hillary has not given Native Americans many reasons to vote for her, but Trump has given us many reasons not to vote for him. Still, that will not be enough to bring Native people out in droves.

Just like any community, she needs to provide a reason to vote for her, not just against Trump. She has not provided that reason. Hillary Clinton can give Native Americans that opportunity — she can reach out a hand of allyship to us. She can show that she won’t follow in the footsteps of previous presidents who have broken hundreds of treaties and spilled the blood of so many of our brothers and sisters.

We are rising up. We are calling for change. The Dakota Access Pipeline is the biggest unity moment for Native Americans in 140 years.

Hillary’s not Bernie or Barack; she’s not someone Indian Country has gotten excited about. Yet. But she could be. With a firm stance on the Dakota Access Pipeline and treaty rights generally, she could win enthusiastic support.
Hillary Clinton has an opportunity to ally with Native Americans, to join us in a historic moment of unity, a stand for our very humanity. The question now is, will she?

Clinton’s Lead Over Trump With Millennials Jumps To 32 Points As Post-Debate Surge Grows

Clinton’s Lead Over Trump With Millennials Jumps To 32 Points As Post-Debate Surge Grows
By Jason Easley on Mon, Oct 3rd, 2016 at 12:12 pm

A new poll shows that Clinton has gained 7 points since the debate and seen her lead over Trump with millennials quadruple to 32 points.

A new poll shows that Clinton has gained 7 points since the debate and seen her lead over Trump with millennials quadruple to 32 points.

The Politico/Morning Consult survey of likely voters found that the election has shifted from a pre-debate 39%-38% Trump lead to a 42%-36% Clinton advantage.

Morning Consult reported on their poll:

Clinton’s surge has been largely driven by her boost among independents. Before the debate, Trump led Clinton by 12 points (35 percent to 23 percent) among independents, but over the weekend, she narrowed that margin to 5 points (30 percent to 25 percent). She also retains a 9-point advantage among women, whereas Trump is pulling even with Clinton among men.
….
This week also appears to have been decisive for millennial voters. One of the more common story lines of the 2016 presidential campaign trail is that the Democratic nominee has struggled to engage young voters, and before the debate she led Trump by 8 points among voters age 18 to 29. But following the debate, that lead has ballooned to 32 points. She is the top choice for 51 percent of millennials, compared with 19 percent who back Trump.

Trump Killed ‘Rust Belt’ Steel and Aluminum Manufacturing Jobs in Secret Chinese Deals

Trump Killed ‘Rust Belt’ Steel and Aluminum Manufacturing Jobs in Secret Chinese Deals

Trump stiffed American steel workers by directing untold millions to China whose trade practices helped decimate the once-powerful industrial center of America.

http://www.politicususa.com/2016/10/04/trump-killed-rust-belt-steel-aluminum-manufacturing-jobs-secret-chinese-deals.html

*The following is an opinion column by R Muse*

Donald Trump has spent no small amount of time lying to American manufacturing workers in the so-called “Rust Belt” and promising to bring back their jobs that he claims were lost to international trade deals. It may sound good on the surface, but like every other utterance out of Trump’s mouth it is a lie and he is a flaming hypocrite. Trump particularly singles out China for his fake wrath and accuses them of everything untoward under the Sun including stealing American jobs.

What Trump never revealed to workers in the steel and aluminum manufacturing industry is that they likely don’t have jobs in part because he abandoned using American made steel and aluminum in his construction projects and secretly dealt with the Chinese through a maze of offshore “businesses” to conceal his tactics – tactics designed to enrich Donald J. Trump at the expense of American workers.

Although not a “bombshell” story like the revelation that Trump “likely” hasn’t paid taxes for at least 18 years, it is big news that Trump took extraordinary measures to, as Newsweek’s Kurt Eichenwald wrote:

“Stiff American steel workers on his own construction projects for years, choosing to deprive untold millions of dollars from four key electoral swing states and instead directing it to China – the country whose trade practices helped decimate the once-powerful industrial center of the United States.”

According to a Newsweek investigation, in “at least two of Trump’s last three construction projects” he purchased both aluminum and steel from China instead of American manufacturers in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin and Michigan. . . .

White Women Rise Up And Power Hillary Clinton To A Commanding Lead In Pennsylvania

White Women Rise Up And Power Hillary Clinton To A Commanding Lead In Pennsylvania

Two new polls of Pennsylvania released today reveal that the Democratic candidate is leading by 9-10 points, but most telling is that Clinton is being powered by white women who are rejecting Trump's candidacy.

Two new polls of Pennsylvania released today reveal that the Democratic candidate is leading by 9-10 points, but most telling is that Clinton is being powered by white women who are rejecting Trump’s candidacy.

After a Franklin and Marshall College poll showed Hillary Clinton leading Pennsylvania by nine points, a Monmouth University poll revealed that Clinton is leading the state by ten. Clinton has crossed the important fifty percent support threshold and now leads Trump 50%-40% with 5% support for Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson, and 2% for the Green Party’s Jill Stein.

According to Monmouth University, “The Republican nominee’s support has slipped among white voters in the Keystone State, who are now divided 46% for Clinton and 45% for Trump. In August, they gave Trump a 48% to 39% edge. This is mainly driven by a swing among white women – who currently support Clinton by a 55% to 35% margin. Just over a month ago, they were divided at 46% for Clinton and 45% for Trump. White men continue to back Trump – 57% to 35% for Clinton – compared with 50% to 32% in late August.”

Donald Trump has a new excuse for why he didn't pay taxes for decades. At a rally in Arizona, Trump claimed that his tax dodging is all Hillary Clinton's fault.

Obama writes about obstructionism on Supreme Court nomination in Huffington Post

"Republican Obstruction Is Undermining The Supreme Court, Enough Is Enough"

Barack Obama

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/republican-obstruction-is-undermining-the-supreme-court-enough-is-enough_us_57f3cb16e4b0d0e1a9a9cfce?

This week, the Supreme Court returns to work. The Justices will hear important cases on issues ranging from the separation of church and state to intellectual property to Congressional redistricting to the death penalty. Many of the cases address questions that are fundamental to our democracy: the right to vote, for instance, or what constitutes U.S. citizenship. Yet – regardless of the stakes – Republicans in Congress have forced the Court to weigh these pivotal issues one Justice short of the Court’s full panel of nine.

In a city of self-inflicted wounds, this one is more dangerous and less defensible than most.

It’s been 202 days since I nominated Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court. That’s more than five months longer than the average nominee has had to wait over the last 40 years to receive a hearing in Congress – let alone an up or down vote. This delay has nothing to do with Judge Garland’s personality or his qualifications. Senators on both sides of the aisle acknowledge that he is a distinguished legal mind, a dedicated public servant, and a good and decent man.

Leader McConnell argues that with an election looming, the Supreme Court should remain short staffed, and he certainly knows his way around DC. But the last time a Supreme Court seat was kept vacant through Election Day was in 1864. At the height of the Civil War. So, this isn’t about precedent. This is about the obstruction of a broken Republican-led Congress.

Every day that GOP Senate leaders block this nomination, they hamstring the entire third branch of government. The Supreme Court is the final destination in a federal judiciary that routinely weighs some of society’s biggest questions. Already this past June, we saw a deadlocked Supreme Court, with no tie-breaking vote, unable to reach a majority on a major immigration case – leaving our Nation’s immigrants in limbo.

Part of what makes Judge Garland a remarkable jurist is his understanding that justice isn’t an abstract theory. It touches people’s lives every day. As long as Republicans continue their brinksmanship, America pays the price. Our most basic workings as a nation aren’t possible without a functioning judiciary at every level. Commerce is hindered and lives are put on hold. If we ever hope to restore the faith in our institutions that has eroded in recent years, we cannot tolerate a politically motivated, willfully negligent vacancy on the Supreme Court.

But this breakdown at the highest level is part of a bigger pattern.

By hobbling the Supreme Court for what could be a year or longer, Republicans are eroding one of the core institutions of American democracy. This cannot be the new normal.

Election satire from Chris Lamb -- List of things blamed on Hillary

Somehow I only just found this -- Anyone who hasn't seen Chris Lamb, this is hilarious satire.

Trump Campaign Releases List of Other Things They Blame on Hillary Clinton

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/christopher-lamb/gop-releases-results-of-3_b_12154670.html?

*** SATIRE *** *** SATIRE *** *** SATIRE ***

On Tuesday morning, the Trump campaign released a list of other things it blames on Clinton.

Zero “Bubba” Honor, a spokesman for the Trump campaign, said the list also includes a number of other reasons that conclusively shows that Clinton is unfit to be president.

“Once the American people see this,” Honor said, “they will see her for who she really is.”

Honor said it’s important that voters know the truth about the candidates when they vote on November 8.

“They can vote for someone who believes in equal opportunity, equal justice for all, a living wage, and compassionate treatment for the ill and elderly,” he said, “or they can vote for Donald Trump. I hope they make the right choice,”

Allegations include:

Clinton removes the tag off mattresses in blatant violation of the law.

Clinton jaywalked in New York City in 2007 - and if she denies it, we have the video to prove it.

Clinton is responsible for Donald Trump’s lies because her campaign checks his facts.

Clinton is responsible for perpetuating the hoax of global warming.

Clinton caused the breakup of the marriage of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Clinton once tried to go through the express checkout line at a grocery store with 13 items.

Clinton is responsible for why police can’t just arrest anyone they want.

Clinton believes in racial and gender equality - and not just for white men.

Clinton is responsible for why the United States can’t deport all Mexicans, who we all know are all drug dealers, criminals, and rapists.

"If Donald Trump Sues The Times Over His Tax Returns, He’ll Probably Lose Badly"

"If Donald Trump Sues The Times Over His Tax Returns, He’ll Probably Lose Badly"

First Amendment experts overwhelmingly say the businessman almost stands no chance in court.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/trump-lawsuit-new-york-times_us_57f2486fe4b082aad9bbf04c?section=us_politics

WASHINGTON ― If Donald Trump were to put his money where his mouth is, his lawyers should already be preparing to sue The New York Times over its weekend publication of a 1995 tax return. The document shows him declaring a loss so big, that it suggests his business acumen maybe isn’t as great as he claims.

In that watershed report, one of the GOP presidential nominee’s longtime lawyers, Marc Kasowitz, is on the record warning the newspaper that going public with the tax return would lead to “prompt initiation of appropriate legal action.”

But legal experts with an in-depth knowledge of the First Amendment are highly doubtful Trump stands a chance in the courts ― especially if the Times did its due diligence and didn’t coerce the information from the person who anonymously mailed it to them.

“This is open-and-shut,” said in an email Geoffrey Stone, a University of Chicago law professor who is a leading scholar on freedom-of-the-press issues. “As the Supreme Court made clear in the Pentagon Papers decision, the press cannot be held liable for publishing truthful information that is relevant to the public interest in the absence of a clear and present danger of grave harm.”

The Washington Post’s Callum Borchers pointed to a federal statute that makes it a crime for “any person” who unlawfully receives tax information to publish it. But some have pointed out that the statute only applies to disclosures originating from government officials ― and here it appears to have been made by someone within the Trump organization.
