An old proverb says, "Nut not fall far from tree". He spent his time as a SeaBee on a PT boat base in New Guinea with magneto phones and switchboards with operators. I spent my time on the DMZ with a Stromberg Carlson common battery switchboard, "Camp Dodge Switch". He joined at the birth of the SeaBees while working for the Bell System. I was drafted while working for GTE. We were both guaranteed a job when and if we returned to civilian life and luckily returned to take advantage of that.

I'm a pack rat too and saved about as many items from my active duty as he did, although SeaBees were not scrutinized as much over what they brought back from the war as I was by the Army. These are items I hadn't seen before, and a couple struck a cord about returning to civilian life. Hope you find these interesting.

Never one to let moss grow under my feet, I have also been experimenting with ICM, Intentional Camera Movement. Actually some of my first photos of this genre were taken in the 1970s. If you choose to visit the gallery you will see those early film photos first. Digital is so much easier with instant feedback, however it is extremely difficult to force a new camera to do exactly what it was designed not to do, and generally requires using a 6 to 10 stop neutral density filter.

Photoshop Generative Fill AI beta gallery

Photography purists will hate it, “it is not photography, it is something else", ok. Adobe would probably hate it for skewing their beta toward something they never envisioned, ok. It can’t be helped.

When the beta arrived, I was heavily involved in a facebook group called “The Plane Spot” run by Tampa International Airport. The group is dedicated to Plane Spotting, by registration/plane type and livery, exactly like train spotting only different.(train/plane spotting joke)

The airlines are bold in their livery or paint jobs. For instance, google “Our Commitment” Alaska Airlines, “Florida One” Southwest, “One World” British Airways, or especially “Imua One” Southwest. Naturally the two worlds began to blend together in my mind and I started generating my own livery for various planes, and that morphed into creating a few new species you will never see. The object of generative fill is to remove unwanted objects and 'fill' the space with a content aware background or whatever you ask for, like an Adobe stock moon photo. I've been playing with it and asked it to do more. This photo of champagne flutes is from from 2000. In subsequent years I was able to use 'clone' to make them work for 2002, 2022 because I only had 2 and 0 to work with. In this version I asked for a '4' and after many tries, which gave me things like a bow tie, nut and bolt, and even a little man in boots, IT is leaning I think. I can see a day when any font, with a limited set of examples, could be expanded for all letters and numbers.

While in Cocoa Beach, Fl. we spent the day at Kennedy Space Center. My gallery now has KSC photos from 1976 (visit), 1984 (work), and 2023 (visit). The 1984 photos include a launch of Shuttle Discovery, while installing a telephone office that served the Shuttle Processing area.

This trip, Falcon Heavy had just been rolled out to it's pad, but not yet lifted vertical. This is the launch scheduled for tonight, SpaceX Falcon Heavy ViaSat-3 Americas. Most of the other photos are somewhat touristy but you might still enjoy.
