This is what they want

Wilbur Ross says on CNBC: "There was not a single hint of a protester" in Saudi Arabia during Trump's visit.

First U.S. Offshore Wind Farm Shutters Diesel Power Plant

America’s first offshore wind farm just helped to shut down a small diesel-fired electric power plant on Block Island, R.I.

Block Island officials on Monday switched on a connection between the island and a cable linking the wind farm to Rhode Island’s mainland power grid. The connection allowed the island’s only electricity source — a small diesel-fueled power plant — to shut down. The island’s 2,000 residents burned about 1 million gallons of diesel fuel annually.

“The emissions that go along with nearly a million gallons of diesel a year — that’s all going to go away,” said Jeff Wright, chief executive of the Block Island Power Co.

Diesel releases more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than any other common petroleum-based fuel except for residential fuel oil, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Less than 1 percent of electricity in the U.S. is generated using liquid petroleum, including diesel.

A List of Horrible Incidents Connected to Sheriff David Clarke

On Wednesday, Milwaukee Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. announced that he had accepted a job in the Trump administration as an assistant secretary in the Department of Homeland Security.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that in the new role, Clarke—who once claimed that there is “no police brutality in America”—will serve as a “a liaison with state, local and tribal law enforcement and governments.”

Last November, the Trump supporter was reportedly being considered to head the department, a job that ultimately went to John Kelly.

The announcement disturbed many people, and for good reason: Clarke has a deeply troubling history. Beyond his frequently inflammatory rhetoric, he’s been directly linked to a string of abuses and misdeeds in his role as Milwaukee sheriff, which he has been since 2002.

How David Clarke Bridges Donald Trumps Gun Nuts and Vladimir Putins Kleptocrats

Remember Bernie Kerik? You’re forgiven if the name’s rappelled into the memory hole, just one more known unknown from The Bush Years. Kerik was a rising star, who’d started off as Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s driver in New York and eventually became chief of the NYPD, serving in that role during the 9/11 attacks, and then garnering a nomination to run Bush’s Department of Homeland Security.

Then it came out that he’d employed an undocumented worker as a nanny, used an apartment meant for exhausted post-9/11 first responders to carry on a lurid affair, and finally pleaded guilty to two state ethics violations and then eight federal crimes, sending him to prison for four years. Yet Kerik seems downright responsible compared to the guy Donald Trump is considering to run DHS.

Last week, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke made a pilgrimage to New York to visit The Donald in his gaudy gold-encrusted apartment on Fifth Avenue. Clarke, who’s permanently attached the title “Sheriff” to his name like an additional appendage, and dons a cowboy hat for each and every public appearance as part of a tough-guy shtick that’s anything but funny.

We know Clarke runs a jail in Wisconsin where an inmate died of “profound dehydration”—ruled a homicide by the courts—and where three inmates and a newborn baby have died in his custody and under questionable circumstances in just the last eight months.

NEW YORK — The American Civil Liberties Union today filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the Justice Department and FBI seeking the memo by former FBI Director James Comey describing his February meeting with President Trump in which Trump reportedly asked Comey to drop the investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and his ties to Russia. The request also covers any other documents related to communications between Trump and Comey.

self-made billionaire is giving away his fortune to clean up the oceans

A Norwegian billionaire, who started out as a fisherman, has said he will give away most of his estimated $2.6 billion fortune in a bid to help clean up the world's oceans.

Kjell Inge Røkke, described in Forbes magazine as a "ruthless corporate raider", wants to build a 596-foot marine research ship that will scour the seas scooping up plastic litter.

Røkke told Norway's Aftenposten newspaper that he wanted "to give back to society what I've earned" and described the cost of the ship as costing "the lion's share of his fortune".
