The State Department has reportedly revoked a visa for British citizen Bill Browder, a hedge-fund manager-turned human-rights activist responsible for the Magnitsky Act. The 2012 U.S. law is aimed at punishing Russian officials believed responsible for the death in a Moscow prison of Sergei Magnitsky, who was allegedly beaten and denied medical care.
The cancelling of Browder's visa came on the same day that the Kremlin issued yet another international arrest warrant for him via Interpol.
The Magnitsky Act, which freezes the assets and bans visas for certain Russians, including those close to Vladimir Putin "touched off a nasty confrontation with the Kremlin, and the two sides have been trying ever since to undermine the credibility of the other. Recently, however, Russian prosecutors have taken that effort to a remarkable new level, claiming that Mr. Magnitsky was actually murdered by Mr. Browder," according to The New York Times.

Monday was the deadline for President Trump to file his 2016 federal tax return. Ordinarily, a president would make the document public. Trump did not, which is unsurprising.
What is notable is that the media forgot to ask.
Among dozens of questions posed to Trump during an impromptu news conference in the Rose Garden on Monday were several about tax policy but none about his own filings, which were, at one time, hotly pursued by the media.
That Trump was spared a single inquiry about his tax return, for which he had received a filing extension, is a testament to his highly effective burial of the issue. He has stalled or refused to release tax documents so many times that the pressure is off.
While propagating his birther conspiracy theory about President Barack Obama and mulling over a White House bid in 2011, Trump told ABC: “I may tie my tax returns — I'd love to give my tax returns — I may tie my tax returns into Obama's birth certificate.”
You know what happened. Obama released his birth certificate; Trump held on to his tax returns.
“If I decide to run for office, I'll produce my tax returns, absolutely,” Trump said in an interview on Irish television in 2014. “I would love to do that.”
In January 2016, when he was running for office, Trump told NBC that “we're working on that right now. I have very big returns, as you know, and I have everything all approved and beautiful, and we'll be working on that over the next period of time. .?.?. At the appropriate time, you'll be very satisfied.”

Browder is a driver behind these Magnitsky acts, and Putin hates him for it, understandably. Twice in 2013, he tried to add Browder to Interpol’s wanted list, and twice he failed, because Interpol knew that Putin was politically motivated. Browder is not a criminal. He is an anti-criminal, which is why Putin targets him.
In 2014, Putin tried again — no dice. Last summer, Browder testified against him before the Judiciary Committee in the U.S. Senate, to damning effect. Obviously ticked, Putin tried again. This time, Interpol had Browder’s name on the list for a month, before deleting it.
In the wake of Canada’s new Magnitsky act, Putin has tried again. Tried for a fifth time. Interpol has accepted his request. Worse, the U.S. government seems in partnership with the Kremlin: Our government has revoked Browder’s visa. (American-born, Browder is a British citizen.) What the …? Let this error be corrected speedily. It’s Putin’s killers and thieves who should be barred from the U.S., not their nemesis, Browder.

The longtime senator forcefully argued that the Trump administration has not been forthcoming and needs to do a better job of keeping the committee up to speed.
"We did not know about Niger until it came out in the paper. We need to have a process of communications, which I've had with other administrations, of exchanging information and knowledge," he told reporters.
However, he said he had a "good conversation" with national security adviser H.R. McMaster Wednesday night and they're currently in the process of scheduling a briefing on the matter.
Asked Thursday how he felt about McCain's criticism -- that it was easier to get information under previous administrations -- McMaster said, "It hurt my feelings."
"I love and respect Sen. McCain," he said. "if Sen. McCain says we need to do a better job communicating with him...we're going to do it."
McCain also signaled that he might hold up defense nominations over the issue. He said he hadn't heard back from the administration after he and Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin sent a letter last week asking why recently approved sanctions against Russia haven't been implemented yet.
"Why do you think they go past the deadline on all of these things?" McCain asked reporters. "Because they think they can get away with it. That's why we say no nominations and we get the information we need."
Asked if he was holding up nominations until he gets answers just on Russia sanctions, McCain said, "On everything."
