DeSantis donor supplied golf simulator for 'Governor's Cabana' and private flights

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s wealthy donors and supporters lent a golf simulator to the Governor’s Mansion and provided private flights to fundraisers and other political events, according to records obtained by The Washington Post.

The golf simulator came from Mori Hosseini, a major home builder who chairs the University of Florida’s Board of Trustees and lent the device to the Governor’s Mansion in DeSantis’s first year in office, according to documents released to The Post in response to a public records request. DeSantis, an avid golfer, has made his “blue-collar” roots a key part of his appeal as a Republican candidate for president and has faced some criticism for his interactions with donors.

“This letter acknowledges that the Mansion Commission has received golf simulator equipment from Mori Hosseini to be possessed on loan at the Governor’s Mansion for an undisclosed term,” reads a 2019 letter to Hosseini from James Uthmeier, formerly a DeSantis lawyer and now his chief of staff. “This equipment will be stored within the Florida Governor’s Mansion gym and will be returned to you immediately upon request. I have reviewed and approved the circumstances of this loan to the Mansion Commission and verify that it is permissible in accordance with the Governor’s Ethics Code and Florida Statutory Code.”

The History of Ukrainian Borshch

Tasting History with Max Miller is one of my favorite YouTube channels, and today he posted his latest video, whose timing is just perfect. So I thought I'd post it here for anyone who isn't familiar with him but is interested in this kind of history. His channel covers a very wide range of dishes.

SouLight Hypotherapy's Latest: "Biden Classified Documents Was it a Set Up? Tarot Reading"

I've watched a number of tarot readers, astrologers, and/or psychics on YT during and since the Trump years... at this point, the ones I still watch are mostly, as they say, for entertainment only, certainly not because they have a great track record for accuracy. One of the more accurate (IMO, anyway... she's the only one I can think of who predicted from the absolute start of the last presidential campaign season that Joe Biden would be the Democratic nominee and that he would be the next president) is SouLight Hypnotherapy, and she just posted what I think is a very interesting video, so I wanted to bring it here.

Shouldn't have said what you said about DeSantis/Gillum race, Trump.

Lawyer for @AndrewGillum cites Donald Trump statement on @GovRonDeSantis as more cause for hearing and document discovery in his federal public corruption case.

The posts "raise serious questions about how exactly Trump 'fixed' DeSantis' campaign and what Trump directed the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office to do, and whether there is any connection to the FBI's investigation and later prosecution of Gillum," Miami lawyer David Markus.

How Trump Deflected Demands for Documents, Enmeshing Aides (NYT)

The former president exhibited a pattern of dissembling about the material he took from the White House, creating legal risk not just for himself but also some of his lawyers. Late last year, as the National Archives ratcheted up the pressure on former President Donald J. Trump to return boxes of records he had taken from the White House to his Mar-a-Lago club, he came up with an idea to resolve the looming showdown: cut a deal.

Mr. Trump, still determined to show he had been wronged by the F.B.I. investigation into his 2016 campaign’s ties to Russia, was angry with the National Archives and Records Administration for its unwillingness to hand over a batch of sensitive documents that he thought proved his claims.

In exchange for those documents, Mr. Trump told advisers, he would return to the National Archives the boxes of material he had taken to Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Fla

Gaetz sought pardon related to Justice Department sex trafficking probe

Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) told a former White House aide that he was seeking a preemptive pardon from President Donald Trump regarding an investigation in which he is a target, according to testimony given to the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Johnny McEntee, according to people familiar with his testimony, told investigators that Gaetz told him during a brief meeting “that they are launching an investigation into him or that there’s an investigation into him,” without specifying who was investigating Gaetz.

McEntee added that Gaetz told him “he did not do anything wrong but they are trying to make his life hell, and you know, if the president could give him a pardon, that would be great.” Gaetz told McEntee that he had asked White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows for a pardon.

Former Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne, an ally of former President Donald Trump, testified behind closed doors before the House select committee investigating January 6, 2021, for nearly eight hours on Friday.

He entered the committee conference room a little before 10 a.m. ET and ended before 7 p.m. ET, with an hour lunch break. He took several small breaks to confer with his lawyer throughout the meeting.

Byrne played an active role supporting efforts to question and push baseless claims about the 2020 election, including attending a meeting in mid-December at the White House to discuss strategies to overturn the election.
