Fahrenthold451's JournalKaren McDougal affair story won the day. No other election google search came close
I've been watching to see which was the political story of the day. There was so much yesterday. Unfortunately nobody seems to care much about Guiliani, but the email story is nowhere to be seen. (Yay!)
Right after the evening news ran the Karen McDougal story rocketed to #4 on google trends. The vast majority of other searches are sports related. Nothing negative on HRC other than mayyyybe Trump whining about Jay-Zs language.
Trump's affair was the story today. Interest spiked in the morning and ran all day. Fine by me.
Fellow analytical nerds--check it out. It's currently #4 most searched.
PS if I told you spirit cooking won the day yesterday would you believe me?

Nice sharp movement upwards for HRC.

Want to smile some more? About a week ago Realclearpolitics quietly changed their prediction market aggregator from Predictwise (sane) to JOHN STOSSEL (I'm serious about this)
Had they left things alone Predictwise puts HRC at 86-14.

Trumps Alleged Mistress Only Needs $150k To Break Agreement with Nat Enq
http://www.wsj.com/amp/articles/national-enquirer-shielded-donald-trump-from-playboy-models-affair-allegation-1478309380Anybody want to set up a crowd fund right now? I'll put in chunk. I'm sure Karen McDougal has an interesting story to tell. (I'm kidding, FYI. It won't be necessary anyway)
The National Enquierer bought the story too cheap. According to the WSJ McDougal fully expected her story to go live a few months ago but the Enquirer buried it. She's not shy.
Shouldn't take more than an hour to fully fund. And if you think the story isn't going anywhere it is top of the feed on Google news.
I actually agree that retroactive prosecution isn't cool. However, after the Trumo attacks on Bill the story goes more to his credibility than his sexual proclivity.
My guess is that the crowd fund isn't terribly necessary. Lawyers are probably talking to her lawyers now. It will be hard for her to turn down the type of cash that might be offered to her.
Trump Affair. WSJ. Bingo.
http://www.wsj.com/articles/national-enquirer-shielded-donald-trump-from-playboy-models-affair-allegation-1478309380Playboy Model Karen McDougal
Appears to be attractive enough to be a plausible date for Trump. (Written with the deepest sense of sarcasm imaginable)
National Enquirer bought the story and did not publish. McDougal could not disclose. That's consistent with what was chattered about for the past few weeks. Everyone knew, nobody could validate story.
Rudy Is Lying. He has a tell. Get CNN's body language guru on this one...
So before Rudy went on Blitzer today he was on record that he had gotten Comey intel from active FBI sources...
Hours after Comeys letter about the renewed probe was leaked on Friday, Giuliani went on a radio show and attributed the directors surprise action to the pressure of a group of FBI agents who dont look at it politically.
Rudy Guiliani to Lars Larson:
The other rumor that I get is that theres a kind of revolution going on inside the FBI about the original conclusion [not to charge Clinton] being completely unjustified and almost a slap in the face to the FBIs integrity, said Giuliani. I know that from former agents. I know that even from a few active agents.

This is problematic for the person who used to like to be called America's mayor. Go back and take a look at his interview with Wolf Blitzer. He's obviously freaking out and trying to mitigate his legal exposure. I think he's lying and the dude has a MEAN tell.
When asked when he last had contact with the FBI he puts on his best actor face and scrunches his brow. Then he really sells that he has to go almost physically go back into the crevices of his mind to search for the answer. It's about at the 7th grade children's theater level. Then he says the word "Gosh."
Look at the guys face at 1:07. ("Gosh" Then 12:11. (substituting "gosh" with "I guess" but to make up for it he grabs his ear nicely)
In a way, his performance is so bad that it insults our intelligence. Everyone on the planet knows that before you go on CNN, you think about what it is you are going to say. Obviously you would think hard about when the last time you talked to an FBI agent because that is the ultimate issue at hand. The whole fucking purpose of the interview is for you to walk back a dumbshit statement you made earlier and clarify that you haven't talked to FBI in precisely _____ months and that you didn't get the info from an active FBI agent. Gosh almighty.
By the way his vocal inflection is really really strained. Lot's of ums at critical moments. An ear grab at 4:40. Some mean stuttering at 5:06. And on and on.
Please, please, let me play poker with this man.
It's past 5:00 EST: HRC Drop Your Oppo. Please?
Mother Jones just dropped the story about the DNC bugging at precisely closing time. That was for a reason. Realistically the last opportunity for a government originated story ended at 5:00. It would make sense for team HRC to keep powder dry, just in case a letter was sent by runner to congress. But now the clock has struck 5.
So, Deep Throat Trench Coat Wearing Person, it's time. Gotta get the story in before 7pm EST so people watching the news catch it. I'm not calling a shot here, but my feeling is that after 7pm tonight, if the story didn't drop then they don't possess the story.
There's plenty of good news, though. In general this news cycle was very favorable to HRC. Unemployment down, Mosul going good, Bridgegate Guilty, Crypt-Keeper Guiliani makes an ass of himself, Sununu farts out a sexually disparaging remark in NEW HAMPSHIRE, and polling trend lines look much better today, especially in NV and CO.
I'll take the day so far. But Mr. Spymaster, Helloooooooooooo.
Guiliani admits he got intel from FBI: That means FBI broke law. Guiliani has no privilege.
Update:
Ds in Congress now calling for probe based on Guiliani's comments. Beautiful. How's it feel, glass house dweller?

Original Post:
Looks like Guiliani admitted today that the FBI ("sources" probably retired) told him in advance of their activities v HRC. That is Guiliani telling the world that an agent or agents of the FBI broke the law.
The term "sources" is for reporters. A reporter gets to say "source" and that's generally understood to mean that they don't have to reveal names. But Rudy is not a reporter. He also doesn't seem to have other obvious ways to prevent disclosure of his "source." He isn't likely married to the agent. He doesn't have a lawyer/client relationship with the agent. That means he could be legally compelled to reveal who leaked it.
By the way, if you think the FBI leaking isn't a big deal--it is. Federal crime. Very bad. Even fox knows this.

Unless Rudy pleads the Fifth, he has to reveal his source. And honestly I don't see how a judge would allow him to invoke the Fifth. Hearing leaked info ain't illegal, and therefore there is no real possibility that testifying against the leaker would tend to incriminate him.
Rudy just did a (pretty) stupid thing.
Bridgegate Defendants Facing 86 Years. Kelly will probably sing to mitigate sentence
Kelly's defense team has an interesting choice. They could not cooperate and lay the foundation for an appeal. Or they could have their client agree to testify against Christie in the hopes of getting a mitigated sentence. Kelly is facing life in prison (although highly unlikely she would get that type of time). Psychologically, though, when a client is facing life it tends to sharpen the focus a little and self-interest tends to dominate the discussion.
My feeling is that Mr. Christie just got fried today.

"It is typical when people are cooperating for that cooperation to be brought to the attention of the sentencing judge, and for the sentencing judge to take that into account," Fishman said.
