CNN: Senate breaks filibuster of Mayorkas nomination to be Homeland Security secretary

https://edition.cnn.com/2021/01/28/politics/senate-filibuster-vote-dhs-secretary/index.html

(CNN)The Senate voted Thursday to break a GOP filibuster and advance the nomination of Alejandro Mayorkas to be President Joe Biden's secretary of Homeland Security after Republicans objected to efforts to quickly install a critical leader of the country's national security apparatus. Now that the nomination has successfully cleared that procedural hurdle, a final vote on confirmation is on track for Monday evening...

Several Republican senators crossed party lines to vote with Democrats in support of breaking the filibuster, including Sens. Mitt Romney, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Rob Portman and Shelley Moore Capito.
First GOP filibuster of Biden nominee
The use of the filibuster -- to stall nominations or legislation -- has long been a favored tool of the minority party, something Democrats did often when trying to derail and delay the Republican agenda under then-President Donald Trump. While several of Biden's nominees have been confirmed and have moved at a slower pace than some of his predecessors' Cabinet picks, Republicans had not yet threatened to filibuster a nominee until Wednesday. Mayorkas is now the first.

Damn GOP SOBs thought they could pull one over. Well i'm thankful to the 5 GOP senators who voted to advance Mayorkas' nomination. Another great Biden pick

President Biden's purple tie - anyone have an idea why he's worn it past several days?

He's wearing it now as i'm watching him speak on social justice. Much as i like it i'd prefer to see him wear blue or red time, or a red-white-blue tie.

Updated PURPOSE to PURPLE

WaPo: Vice President Harris to stay at Blair House while official residence undergoes repairs

https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/home/kamala-harris-staying-at-blair-house/2021/01/22/81769922-5ccb-11eb-8bcf-3877871c819d_story.html

The vice president and Emhoff moved into Blair House on Thursday, after spending Wednesday night at their condo in the District. Security at the condo complex was ramped up after November’s election, as reported in the Wall Street Journal, and was becoming a daily hassle for other residents. Blair House was a natural choice for a highly secure Washington government location.
---------------------

I'm glad they've moved into Blair House, as security & safety of Madam VP & her husband will be much improved

BTW open the WaPo link in incognito so you won't hit the paywall.

CNN: Impeachment article to be sent to Senate on Monday

https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/22/politics/impeachment-articles-schumer/index.html

So i just heard on CNN Jamie Gangel reported that there is an underground pro-conviction campaign composed of donors and GOP Congress members and staffers, that they want to take back their party, and that Mcconnel wants to rid the party of the Con.
There was also mention there's alot of pessimism within their party.
Will be interesting to see how things will play out. I hope they fracture & go the way of the Whigs

Dubya's swaying during the UNITY clip

Anybody noticed while the three former presidents are having this serious discussion about unity - dang guy sways back and forth with his hands in his pocket like a giddy teenager who didn't know what to do with himself, as if to imply that he's in awe of the other 2 (extremely capable leaders) and way out of their league?

Joy Reid: Inaugural celebration was everything the GOP hates, and envies, about the left

https://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/watch/joy-reid-inauguration-program-was-the-answer-to-what-we-saw-on-january-6th-99767877960

Joy nails it spot on in this one sentence: Democrats have CULTURE. The right want the culture more than the politics, but they don't have it.

Also love the fact she was BEAMING throughout the entire coverage yesterday i thought the woman was going to turn into a high wattage lightbulb

Really enjoyed MSNBC's coverage of the entire thing. Kudos to Rachel, Nicole & Joy - love watching all their shows

So about that wall, & the 10B funding the Con stole from the DoD to pay for it

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-46824649

1. How much 'new wall' Trump has built is up for debate
2. Most of the wall isn't 'wall' at all
3. How it's being paid for remains controversial
4. Illegal crossings appear to have fallen this year
5. A key migrant camp is emptying
6. The barrier is unlikely to stop most kinds of drugs coming into the US

Not sure what happened but my message was truncated. Anyhow, that 10B can now be used to pay for vaccines or food aid for struggling families impacted by the pandemic. Alot of work ahead to clean this up for Biden/Harris admin.

LADIES: Wear your pearls tomorrow to mark this historic inauguration of our First Madam VEEP

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/19/style/inaugurations-pearls-kamala-harris.html

Kamala Harris Has Always Worn Pearls. Now, in Sisterhood, So Will They.

Women across the country are pledging to wear pearls on Inauguration Day to support the country’s first female Vice President-elect.
"Sandra Broome-Edwards, 67, has worn pearls every day since early January.
“I’ve been sitting at home watching ‘Good Morning America’ with my pearls on,” she said. “It’s my way of acknowledging the momentous occasion that is coming.”

Ms. Broome-Edwards is one of over 430,000 women who are members of a Facebook group called “Wear Pearls on Jan 20 2021.” The idea is to honor Kamala Harris, the country’s first female Vice President-elect, who wore her signature pearls when she graduated Howard University, was sworn into Congress, grilled Brett Kavanaugh, debated Vice President Mike Pence, as she received her Covid-19 vaccine and, it’s likely, again when she is sworn on Wednesday."

I will wear my pearls tomorrow in honor of Madam Vice President Kamala Harris. If i had chucks i'd wear them too
