Days after tweeting he was running for president, the rapper Kanye West is reportedly dropping his attempt to get into the 2020 race.
“He’s out," adviser Steve Kramer told New York Magazine's The Intelligencer. Kramer said he had been hired to help West get on ballots by gathering signatures in two key states.
West tweeted on July 4 that he was running for president, apparently in 2020.
"We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States!" he wrote.

ViacomCBS drops Nick Cannon, cites 'anti-Semitic' comments

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nick Cannon’s “hateful speech” and anti-Semitic theories led ViacomCBS to cut ties with the TV host and producer, the media giant said.
“ViacomCBS condemns bigotry of any kind and we categorically denounce all forms of anti-Semitism,” the company said in a statement Tuesday. It is terminating its relationship with Cannon, ViacomCBS said.
The company’s move was in response to remarks made by Cannon on a podcast in which he and Richard “Professor Griff” Griffith, the former Public Enemy member, discussed racial bias. The podcast reportedly was filmed last year and aired two weeks ago.
“We have spoken with Nick Cannon about an episode of his podcast ‘Cannon’s Class’ on YouTube, which promoted hateful speech and spread anti-Semitic conspiracy theories,” ViacomCBS said.

Coronavirus crisis deepens as Florida soars over 10,000 new cases, largest jump of the pandemic

Florida is now deeper into its coronavirus crisis than ever before, as the state added 10,109 new cases on Thursday.
That’s a record for the pandemic, continuing a surge of COVID-19 infections that began a month ago. The previous high mark was 9,585 cases on Saturday.
To date, at least 169,106 people have been diagnosed with the disease.
The Department of Health also reported 68 additional deaths linked to COVID-19, for a new total of 3,718 fatalities. The death toll has also been creeping up.
The record-high daily case totals have forced state and local officials to stop bars from serving alcohol, beef up enforcement of business capacity rules, and close beaches over the upcoming holiday weekend.

A federal appellate court has temporarily stopped a judge’s order that granted hundreds of thousands of felons the right to vote, the latest turn in Florida’s battle over felon voting rights.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit ruled in favor of state officials and Gov. Ron DeSantis, who asked the court to stop a ruling in May by U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle. Hinkle ruled that DeSantis and Florida elections officials can’t keep felons from voting if they can’t afford to pay all court fees, fines and restitution, finding that the requirement is unconstitutional.
The court’s order also states that the entire panel of 11th Circuit judges will hear the case, a rare decision that was requested by DeSantis. The panel, which is known as one of the more conservative appellate courts in the nation, includes two judges that DeSantis had first appointed to Florida’s Supreme Court.
The decision is a setback for the hundreds of thousands of felons who were granted the ability to vote under Hinkle’s order. A spokesman for Florida Secretary of State Laurel Lee, who oversees the state’s Division of Elections, did not respond to questions about the ruling.

Two Arrested In Connection With Provo Protest Shooting

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Police said two people have been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred in Provo during Monday night’s protests.
Jesse Taggart, 33, of Salt Lake City, and 27-year-old Samantha Darling, of Ogden, were arrested Tuesday, according to officials with the Provo Police Department.
Sgt. Nisha King with the Provo Police Department said Taggart was booked into the Utah County Jail on multiple charges, including attempted aggravated murder, aggravated assault, rioting, firing a weapon near a highway and criminal mischief.
Darling was booked on charges of obstruction of justice and rioting.
