Judge orders Trump's 'Remain in Mexico' policy to be reinstated

Source: The Hill

A federal judge has ordered the Biden administration to reinstate the "Remain in Mexico" policy that had been put in place by the Trump administration, stating that President Biden's White House had acted "arbitrarily and capriciously" in ending the program.

As CBS News reported, U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk said in his ruling on Friday that the Biden administration had violated procedural laws and failed to see "several of the main benefits" of the Remain in Mexico policy, also known as the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP).

In June, the Biden administration formally ended Trump's immigration policy, which required asylum-seekers to remain in Mexico as their cases awaited trial in the U.S.

Biden suspended the program on his first day in office.

Brash, progressive former U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson is running for the U.S. Senate.

The three-term Democratic former congressman from Central Florida has been exploring the possibility of a U.S. Senate run since March, and on Friday began running social media ads attacking Republican Sen. Marco Rubio and touting his own commitment to universal health care.

“I think we were pretty much there,” Grayson told Florida Politics Friday. “Now we’re going to try to take it up a notch.”

Grayson is a Democrat known for taking it up a notch. Or two.

Cuomo says he "never touched anyone inappropriately"

Source: CBS News

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday he "never touched anyone inappropriately" or "made inappropriate sexual advances," after an explosive state Attorney General's investigation found he sexually harassed multiple current and former staffers, as well as women who did not work for his administration.

"The facts are much different than what has been portrayed," Cuomo said in a speech at the governor's mansion.

"I am 63 years old. I have lived my entire adult life in public view. That is just not who I am, and that's not who I have ever been," he said.

Cuomo said he understands "there are generational and cultural perspectives that I have not fully appreciated" and said, "I have learned from this."

DeSantis challenger Nikki Fried says she does not support statewide mask mandate in Florid

Source: The Hill

Nikki Fried, the Florida state agriculture commissioner and one of the Democrats challenging Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) next year, on Monday said that she does not support a statewide mask mandate as the Florida emerges as the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in the U.S.

In an interview on CNN’s “New Day,” Fried ruled out any state-level directive requiring Floridians to wear masks but said that the governor should empower local governments and school boards to make such decisions on their own.

“Every county needs to make their own decisions,” Fried said when asked whether she would support a statewide mask mandate. “No statewide mask mandate, but I certainly would want every school board to have the power to make the right decisions for their own communities.”

Fried, the only Democratic statewide elected official in Florida, also criticized DeSantis and the Republican-controlled state Legislature, which passed a bill earlier this year limiting local leaders’ authority to impose coronavirus-related restrictions.
