Can’t wait to see ⁦‪@NancyPelosi‬⁩ sworn in as Speaker. Dems will pass a bill to reopen the government. Then it is up to Mitch McConnell to pass it. If Trump wants to continue his shutdown, he will veto it. Then Congress can override & we can start functioning like grownups again.

What security agencies are affected by the shutdown?

If there’s an incident right now is Trump going to try and capitalize on this?

US Politics: sitting presidents not renominated.

I was curious about this as it could apply in 2020.

Apparently it’s only happened once to an elected president, Franklin Pierce (14) in 1856.

Others ( John Tyler, Millard Fillmore, Andrew Johnson and Chester Arthur) were denied nomination but were not elected to the presidency and all had assumed the presidency as VP at the death of the president.

This was a “lean Republican“ and and would be an unexpected win if Cox can pull it off
