Well, then, if Melania "doesn't really care"

what about soft-focus Mother Ivanka? She's young--why isn't she working the internet crowd with messages of hope and caring? I'm sure all those Chez Trump are shitting themselves that they didn't think of doing the marvelous things Michelle and Barack (oh, won't you come back?) have been up to, but it's not too late for them to work up some kind of semi-human face to counter the hardass crazy crap the Trump Camp is peddling?

If Obama tells young people to vote for Biden, it's going to be a big boost because from what I read that's the only demographic Biden is a little weak in. If all Trump can do in response to this glorious blitz by the Obamas is twit crazy shit, his handlers have all dropped the ball.

Why isn't Melania out there

reading books online to little kids, comforting high school kids who are missing graduation and prom, offering solace to those of us who've lost loved ones, giving messages of hope and unity, just Eleanor-Roosevelting the hell out of this emergency?

Oh. That's right. Our First Lady can't speak English.

It's happened: positive covid-19 test at my daughter's group home

There are only three residents, so "group" seems a bit much, but that's what they call it. One of the ladies had a bad cold and was taken to the hospital, where they tested her. The cold was just a cold, so she apparently is one of the asymptomatic victims. Another resident was tested a few weeks ago for a similar reason, and she was negative. The head of the house called me to let me know, and I asked that they test my daughter, who has no symptoms. The staff lady told me that the positive-tested lady was quarantined in her room (she has an en-suite bathroom and her own TV, so it won't be too bad) and that staff now has to wear PPE at all times.

The virus has to have been brought in by a staff member; no one else is allowed in the house.

My daughter is very healthy, and has a similar bedroom situation as the positive lady, so if she has to be quarantined she'll be happy as long as they bring her food.

I have been worrying that the house would have to be shut down if/as tax funds evaporate, so I'm almost relieved that someone has tested positive. Maybe I'm crazy, but it seems to me that that would be in favor of keeping the house open and staffed.

Mother's Day and Little Richard is dead

What's to celebrate.

And another thing

The people who are going to get sick and die when states are reopened prematurely are the desperate folks who can't afford to stay home. I saw a scathing comment about someone who just *had* to have her dog groomed, so she was defying the "closed" orders. Well, what about the dog groomer who has to pay for medical insurance or rent or food for her family? She *has* to go to work and groom the damn dog. Is it worse to die from corona19 or see her children starve?

Opening the states too early is stupid, pleasing to big industry and the upper class but deadly to workers who will not be praised as heroes or have money raised for them. These folks need money from the government to cover their living expenses far more than the airline industry needs props* to keep planes flying. More people are going to die, and it's going to be people from the ground up.

Fuck heartless republicans.

* yes it was intentional

I've got news for those guys

who want old folks and the most vulnerable among us to sacrifice ourselves so the economy can reopen. Guess what, boys? We aren't the ones who are going to go to restaurants and barber shops and retail stores. We're all staying home, no matter how "open" our states are. You're going to kill the real consumers, those delicious 35-50 year olds who are still spending money. We're living on savings, social security and pensions, so we aren't going to go out to work. We already have places to live and cars to drive. We buy groceries and medications, and grocery stores and pharmacies have been open all along.

So go sacrifice yourselves, assholes.

No Taxation without Representation

Trump has made it clear that he is not interested in including Democrats in any efforts to get through the pandemic; he is interested in punishing everyone who did not vote for him. I think we Democrats should withhold our federal taxes (perhaps sending that money to state governments) until our federal government represents all the people, not just the Republicans.

Always remember: there are more of us than them.

Will Remdesivir become part of "our" stockpile?

Jared Kushner spoke of "our" stockpile (vs. what was available to states) some while ago, and it's been announced that the feds will be in charge of distributing remdesivir. Trump suggests that states with sanctuary cities should not receive the next wave of financial assistance. Will Kushner withhold the fed's stockpiles of PPE, respirators and other vital equipment to the states that do not support Trump when the next wave of covid-19 hits us? I wouldn't put it past him.
