cyclonefence's JournalA Hate Crime Against Women
Most of the victims in the spa murders were Asian; 100% were women, who were killed solely because they were women. If this isn't a hate crime, I don't know what is.
Because too much is not enough
"As you know, police departments are being defunded..."
Thus began a contribution-seeking phone call the other day. Never did find out who it was. I said "They are not!" He said, "Goodbye."
I think it's time for a fireside chat
from our President about covid relief funds. That might generate some pressure from the public on recalcitrant lawmakers. I'm tired of Democrats being so fucking considerate of our opponents' feelings. We have a limited time to get a lot of important things done, and I think it's time to bring out the big guns. Metaphorically, of course.
Continued repetition of the Big Lie
On Sunday or maybe it was Saturday evening, after my husband finally took the damn football game to our bedroom TV, I was checking in (as is my wont) on what O*N and the other RW news channels were saying.
On O*N, it was the "Investigative" Show just ending up, and this young anchor was reciting every one of the Pillow Guy's assertions (dead people voting, juveniles voting, out-of-state voters, etc) *except* for accusing the voting machine manufacturers of malfeasance. She was outraged and incredulous--how could such blatant criminal activity go a)unreported by the Lamestream and b)unpunished? It was clear, according to her, that Tr*mp had won the election, and won big.
This is wrong, and it's unacceptable. Everything she said has either been disproven, debunked, or laughed out of court, and yet there it was laid out plain, obviously to rile up the believers.
We are all damaged and endangered by this. How can we counter the "official"--by network TV--spread of lies--of incendiary lies? The injured parties are not the machine-producing companies; the injured party is US. Who can sue? Who can bring O*N to court to prove these false allegations? Can an entity like the ACLU act on behalf of the American people and sue?
Outlets like this, which are continuing to stoke the fires of insurrection and treason, must be forced to put up or shut up--and not just shut up, but make amends by broadcasting statements that what they said was wrong and a lie.
Does the DOJ have a role? How about someone who was injured or whose loved one was killed on 1/6? We are *all* damaged; how can we *all* sue?
"cancel culture" "political correctness"
Both bugaboo phrases condemn suffering the consequences of one's actions. If you violate society's norms, there will be a reaction, whether it's losing your tv show because your nutty talk scares away sponsors, or your rude behavior gets you excluded from polite society.
No consequences. The Trump family motto.
Taking Their Guns
I once asked my husband's wacky cousin, who never met a conspiracy theory she didn't want to marry, what the point of "false flag" operations were. Who benefited from pretending that children murdered at school weren't really dead, and why would anyone go to the trouble of pretending some liberal group was behind the non-massacre? She told me that it was to stir up public opinion against gun ownership, to grease the wheels of gun regulation down the slope of taking guns away altogether.
I said it didn't seem to be working, especially after Sandy Hook. Who could imagine a more horrible shooting crime? If that didn't make people want to ban guns altogether and lead to the repeal of the Second Amendment, what would?
Storming the Capitol would, I guess. Watching some of the whack-job videos of broken-hearted idiots, I heard "false flag" invoked more than once. Here we go again.
Happy Days are Here Again
"Truth and Reconciliation" is what we need, not "Continue the Lie and Reconciliation"
Truth: The election was fair.
Lie: The election was stolen.
Take a lesson from South Africa, republicans. "Truth" comes before "reconciliation." It doesn't work any other way, so stop urging us to move on and unite--to reconcile--until you are willing to tell the truth.
I watched that black cop being pursued by the white mob
and my heart sank with every step backward he took. Learning that he was intentionally, heroically leading that bunch of thugs away from Mike Pence and his family, that he was endangering himself to go beyond his duty, not only relieved my fears but made me so proud of him. If anyone deserves a medal and public accolades, it's this brave man.
