Charleston (WV) Gazette-Mail bankruptcy cheered by coal mine owners
The Gazette-Mail, for which my father was a columnist and earlier city editor for the Gazette, was at one time ranked the second-most liberal newspaper in the country (a paper in York PA--of all places--was #1). The hard times finally caught up with the Gazette-Mail, and it declared bankruptcy a couple of days ago. The coal industry is delighted. Had this happened during the 1950s, segregationists would have been dancing in the streets.

RW Nut Wants Hillary Executed
Asshole Supreme says Mueller should go after Hillary for treason. Read about it here at this *progressive* *not RW* website: https://thinkprogress.org/on-hannity-former-white-house-official-suggests-hillary-clinton-deserves-to-be-executed-540b8ec2e94a/
This is not a repetition of RW talking points; it is the exact opposite.

Why are Democrats allowing ourselves to be forced to carry the water
for gun control? A majority of Americans wants gun control, certainly control of automatic weapons (yes, I know; this is an imprecise term but I don't care). We have worked for years for gun control, and the Republicans have used this against us in election after election (a Trump voter I know actually told me he was afraid Hillary would repeal the second amendment). Why don't we mourn and stand by and let the Republicans--the ones who have the power to actually *do* something--take this burden?
(of course this assumes they're not all so in thrall to the Russian-backed NRA that they don't dare)
The same for DACA, and even god help us abortion. These are issues where most Americans hold the Democratic view, yet the Republicans use the Democratic stance against us--we don't care about border security or MI13 or whatever the hell that gang is; we want to kill babies.
I think a smart position would be for us to stand quietly by, waiting for the party in power to act.
A Really Bad Series and a Really Good One on Amazon
"Absentia" is a real stinker. Maddening. Totally hated it. I love serial killer stories, and there was (sort of) a serial killer in this one, but mostly it was about stupid senseless shit, and poorly done at that. Made in Bulgaria or Albania or some such place, but in English. I still haven't found my disbelief--I had to suspend it so many times it's gone missing, maybe for good.
On the other hand, I'm totally loving "Sophia" made in Russia, in Russian with subtitles, about the second wife of Ivan I. If you love Alexander Nevsky, you'll love this. Plus the costumes are to die for.
You have to pay extra for so many Amazon offerings that I usually skip it--I have Prime mostly for the free shipping--and go right to Netflix, but Sophia is included, and I'm glad I stumbled on it.
If Trump gets his wish about a military parade
I hope women in pussy hats will turn out in even greater numbers all along the parade route. I'd love it if we concealed our hats and then at a pre-arranged time all put them on at once.
All these jobs
Why aren't Republicans parading folks who have jobs now as a result of their tax cuts for the rich? All these numbers--so many new jobs--but I don't know anyone who got a job. Can't they line up some of these newly-employed people and let them talk about the wonderful new jobs Trump has created?
Something I don't understand about the DACA debate
is that while everyone--democrats and republicans and the vast majority of American people--want a solution that safeguards the status of the DACA children, it is being posited as something the Democrats are being offered for use as a bargaining chip in discussions about purely partisan subjects. Why is it a given that Democrats are the only ones interested in protecting DACA, when *everyone* is interested in protecting DACA?
