My $600 stimulus just showed up direct-deposited into my checking account, for those keeping track.

A little, I feel like it's dirty money -- but it's money.

Suppose the R's are desperate enough to 25A Donnie?

If he pocket-vetoes the pending funding bills, they are totally dead. Congress would have to re-introduce them in 2021.

Maybe the lesser of two evils for them is to dump Trump and have Pence sign.

Not putting any heavy bets on it, but it would make a certain kind of sense, even to them.

For people worried that Pence might throw sand into the EC vote gears...

...even if he does inexplicably find a way to sabotage Biden, Trump's term still ends on Inauguration Day. If there's no president-elect -- President Pelosi.

Why it's vitally important to push back against Trump's martial law talk.

Trump isn't a brave person. He hints, he dogwhistles, he retweets, and then he sniffs the air to see how it's going. No reaction? Heavier hints, louder dogwhistles, nastier retweets. Lather, rinse, repeat, getting closer to his goal each time.

Now is the time to push back. He retweets Flynn -- we talk about Mussolini and the Esso Station. He should know that that if he takes a serious run at the Constitution, not only will it fail, but his his life and the lives of his children will never be the same again.

We are lucky that Trump has no guts and no ability to plan and execute anything.

In the end, he's just a whiney little nut-grabbing chickenshit punk.

A fable.

For many years the People of the Valley lived in peace and prosperity. Their fertile fields and extensive knowledge of the ways of growing things guaranteed yearly bountiful harvests. They traded with the People of the Outer Provinces, and while there were occasional disagreements, relations were peaceful and mutually beneficial.

As of late, however, the People of the Outer Provinces had become increasingly hostile to the People of the Valley. They were openly discussing the possibility invading the Valley and taking over the farms. The People of the Valley were becoming alarmed. If an invasion should happen, it was not at all clear that they could successfully repel the invaders. The People of the Outer Provinces were even talking about pressing the Valley People into lifelong forced servitude.

Finally, one of the wisest of the Valley People spoke up and said, "There is a way that we can keep our beautiful valley, but it requires extraordinary steadfast resolve."

"Yes? Tell us how?", said the people, because the talk of the People of the Outer Provinces had become most alarming.

"We must pledge a sacred oath", said the Wise One, "to each other and before the world, that, should the People of the Outer Provinces invade and prevail, we will set fire to our crops and our barns and our houses, slay our animals, and salt the fields. They will get nothing."

"But Wise One", they cried, "With no harvest and no houses, we will surely die!"

"Yes, but only if the armies of the People of the Outer Provinces actually do invade. They must realize that if they do, they will gain nothing. They will freeze and starve alongside us. They should be made to know that if they remain peaceful, we will trade with them on favorable terms and all will be adequately provisioned for the winter."

The people were much troubled and murmured among themselves. Finally the Wise One raised a hand and said, "Perhaps the only course is to risk all to gain all. You must ponder these things and search you innermost feelings, for we live in precarious times."

There may be possibly some relevance to these times.

Just curious: was (will be) there a moment where Trump's ahead in the EC running count?

Just like to picture his heart breaking one more time.

At what point does a lie by a media outlet become legally actionable?

I suppose if a TV newscaster recommended quaffing 12 ounces of battery acid every day, someone whose family member died would have standing to sue.

Just five people could end our democracy.

"They probably won't." is not all that comforting to me right now.

December 10, 2020

Bottom line: if SCOTUS really wants to keep Trump in the WH, can they be stopped?

I know it's tempting to obsess over the details of the litigation d'jour, but does any of that really matter?
