son volt - methamphetamine (studio - 2007)

One my favorite, fairly unknown Son Volt gems ... the slide guitar is just KILLER ... lyrics & melody awesome ... check it!

I took a night shift, another nickel on the dime
Try to play it straight and make it different this time
Still waiting to meet the next ex-wife

It's either watching these gauges for Monsanto
Or a bar-back job for the casino
The Army won't want me after what this body's been through

Would you take me back North Carolina?
Would you take me back Arkansas?
Blissful days still there to remember
Methamphetamine was the final straw

I had a killer job in a backup band playin' guitar in Branson
Two shows a night brought the money to chase down sin
Now it's another weekend and I'm lonely at home
Late night TV, evangelist drone
I'm healthy now but I really don't know if I'll ever be free

Would you take me back North Carolina?
Would you take me back Arkansas?
Blissful days still there to remember
Methamphetamine was the final straw

john hiatt - feels like rain (studio - 1987) t'was covered brilliantly by others ...

but like all John Hiatt songs ... nobody ever does it BETTER than the original, by The Man Himself ...

One of the slinkiest, sexiest, and most comforting grooves ever ...

rose royce - i wanna get next to you

Just cause I freaking love this song, and it's a groovy mellow Saturday morning song to chill to ... or maybe lay around to ... with your honey ...

the beatles - don't let me down (live from the apple building)

One of the most iconic performances in all of rock and roll history ... it don't get any better ... RIP John ...

john lennon & plastic ono band - instant karma (live)

Given the date today ... in John's Honor ...

scissor sisters - paul mccartney ... Is It The Music That Connects Me To You?

No idea why the song is called that ... but it is an entire dance party ... encapsulated into 4 minutes ... possibly my favorite Sisters tune ... freaking catchy as all get out ... oh, and DAT BASS, MAN!

is it the party that ain't over 'til it's thru?
is it the wiring that's suddenly a blown fuse?
is it a chemical that makes this moment true?
is it the music that connects me to you?

terence trent d'arby - seasons (someday, someone will cover this forgotten gem and make bank)

Just a drop-dead beautiful song and performance, everything on it performed and produced by him ... a stunner, IMHO.

I won't say goodbye
I don't want to use that exit line
Please don't make me lie
I have no excuse for you this time

Cause sometimes
(It's alright for a season)
But then it's time to go

The verses of my life are moving past
And so now the chorus I must hear
I've got to define my life and times
Before I can give you more than tears

Cause sometimes
(It's alright for a season)
But then it's time to go

Your heart was stretched to the point of breaking
Your tears are etched and your sorrow is waking

This complicated curse
Causes you to freeze our love in time
If I awaken first
It's only 'cause you lost yourself in mine

Please don't let me see you cry

Cause sometimes
It's alright for a season
But then it's time to go ...

If You Tolerate This ... Then Your Children Will Be Next ...

The Manics live on Jools Holland ... kickass ...

Pure, Short, Simple Beauty - Better Be Home Soon - Crowded House

Easily one of my all time favorite tunes ...

I know ... I Could Never Let You Down ... When You Come ...

Particularly phenomenal drum (and bass for that matter) work on this Crowded House classic ...
