john mayer - slow dancing in a burning room (live - 2007 - los angeles) jaw-dropping perfection ...

I'm totally prepared to forgive the occasional bit of mild douche-baggery in a musician ... when they're this good at writing, singing, and playing ... not to mention, the lyrics definitely hit me in the feels ...

Bonus track, from the same show ... also sheer perfection ... I esp. love the above-the-nut string bends at around the 5:00 mark. Dude is a straight badass ...

John Mayer - Walt Grace's Submarine Test, January 1967 (don't care what u say, this is a great song)

There's just something about it ... that really hits home for me ... I LIKE a lot of Mayer's songs, especially those on Continuum and this album (Born and Raised), but this is the one song of his that I legitimately love ... think it's the best song he ever did.

Probably NOBODY here has heard it ... give it a shot ...

Lucius - Two of Us On The Run - These two ladies are freaking magical ...

From their 2014 debut "Wildewoman", pretty much every song on it is good-to-great, but this is a particular fave. Love the part starting at 3:05 ... so, so good.

I also love the various differently-sung refrains of:

"one day tell our story of how we made something of ourselves ..."

London Grammar - Strong (you're gonna wonder .. how the hell have I not heard this freaking song?!?)

Unless of course you have.

In which case, you already know ... freaking DEVASTATINGLY GREAT ...

Grimes - Artangels (perhaps one of catchiest freaking songs of all time)

Grimes is kinda like Prince, insofar as this song is ALL her, doing everything ...

Another that must be played LOUD ...

Royksopp - This Must Be It - For JHan

Given your recent post, I'm betting you'll recognize the guest vocalist on this ... a very cool song ... NEEDS TO BE PLAYED CLUB-LOUD!!!

the main squeeze - have a cigar (pink floyd cover, very recent, and very scorching) ...

So, the youtube al-gore-rhythms done recommended me this one, so I checked it out, and HOLY BALLS ... this is f***ing KICK ASS ... make sure you watch til the 'outro' ...

third eye blind - the background (studio - 1997) - For The Sarg ...

3rd song from the end of their debut, Third Eye Blind ... this track, Motorcycle Drive By, and God Of Wine ... is w/o a doubt one of the best closing sequences of any record ever IMHO. Let alone any band's debut album.

This is some random persons vid collage thingie but it's pretty decent and the sound quality is awesome, so ... using this one.

Pretty much any real 3EB fan has this one in their top 5 songs of theirs, for sure ... and it's just a killer freaking song.

the background

everything is quiet
since you're not around
i live in numbness now
... in the background

i do the things we did before,
i walk haight street to the store,
and they say
"where's that crazy girl?
you don't get drunk on red wine
and fight no more?"

i don't see you anymore
since the hospital

the plans i make still have you in them
as you come swimming into view
and i'm hanging on your words
like i always used to do
the words we use so lightly
"i only feel for you"
i only know because i
carry you around
... in the background

ghosts they come
and memories all repeat
lift your head while
they change the hospital sheets

and i would never lie to you, no
i would never lie to you, no
i felt you long after we were through
we were through

the plans I make still have you in them
as you come swimming into view
and I'm hanging on your words
like I always used to do
the words we use so lightly
"i only feel for you"
i only know
because i carry you around
... in the background

cause I felt you long after we were through

as you come swimming into view
and i'm hanging on your words
like I always used to do
the words we use so lightly
"i only feel for you"
i only know because
i'm way
i'm way
in the background

i'm in the background

chvrches - clearest blue (live - 2015 - pitchfork music fest)

I have such a big crush on Lauren Mayberry (yeah, I know ... CREEPY!!!)

But as one of the comments on YT says ... "may she never return to her Elf Kingdom". I concur ...

For real though, this song is badass ... I just love the buildup, then the ecstatic release at 2:50 mark.

btw ... NEEDS TO BE PLAYED LOUD w/lots of BASS ...

lyle lovett & his large band - i've been to memphis (live - mid 90's i think - san antonio)

The killer opener of Joshua Judges Ruth album, this *might* be my favorite Lyle song ... at least on a given day, lol ...

Another example of sheer friggin' musical perfection ... performances don't get much better (nor classier) than this in my book. The piano work in particular ... TREMENDOUS, man. The rhythm section, too ... keep this rather oddly-timed song tight as HELL.
