I'm convinced this 2022 track from 50 year old Josh Rouse would've been a huge 70's hit

Another bit of counter-evidence for people who stand by the idea that all the best music came out decades ago

And yes, I get the Al Stewart vibe going on here

I also love how it's totally 70's overall, but then he lets fly with some very Robert Smith-style guitar licks during the breaks. This tune is a gem in my book.

My version of an Xmas Song for my DU friends - Thank You World :)

World Party - Thank You World (studio-1990)

Karl Wallinger (formerly part of The Waterboys) is basically World Party, and he plays and sings every note himself on this one. I don't care what anyone says, this is one of the greatest records of the 1990's, literally EVERY song is very good-to-excellent on it. The Beatles influences weigh heavily, but don't feel concocted or forced. GREAT album you should all check out.

Enjoy, and Happy Holidays

spoon my babe

From their Grammy-Nominated Best Rock Album of 2022 titled "Lucifer on the Sofa", I present you with some Spoon.

Video is deliberately old-timey, but it's not actually, it's from earlier this year.

I think even some of the 'I only like 60's/70's and some 80's music' crowd will still appreciate it, it's pretty straightforward classic rock-sounding.

Put it this way if Tom Petty had put this out in the 1970's, it would be one of his biggest hit songs.

From the 4.5 star Rolling Stone review:

‘Lucifer on the Sofa’ Might Be Spoon’s Best Record Ever
A consistently excellent band takes it to a new level by getting back to basics

SPOON ARE THE most reliable great American rock band of the past 25 years. That might say more about American rock than it does about Spoon, but facts don’t lie. They’ve been at it since the mid-Nineties, and they’ve never made a dull record, thanks to leader Britt Daniel’s brilliant songwriting and a knack for nuancing their Texas indie rock. They do jittery guitar bangers; they throw in some soul; they try out electronics; they nod to Prince and the Kinks and Motown and Wire. But it always comes out sounding like Spoon: casually stylish and stunningly catchy, opaque but openhearted, bristling with the thrill of subtle invention.

Check it friends!

spoon - wild (studio-2022) from their Grammy Nominated (Best Rock) Album

This may be their most obviously catchiest tune in their 25+ year career. A'course they enlisted Taylor Swift's guru to help on this song, so ... maybe has something to do with it

A lot of their stuff is hella catchy but you have to listen a couple times for the hooks to really get ya. This one's obvious the first time. Give it a minute, it's just keeps getting better as it goes

Matter of fact, taken as a whole, this newest album kicks ass (Lucifer On The Sofa), and it's pretty damn accessible. Highly rec'd listening!

"Michael Hann of The Guardian gave the album a perfect five-star rating, writing, "Ten albums and nearly 30 years into their career, Spoon still sound like Spoon: fresh, timeless and wholly in control of their work"

And as always, they can put it DOWN on the stage ...

Or Live in Studio ...

This is "the greatest song that you can barely understand a word of" ... tell me I'm wrong :)

Though I might allow for a few Cocteau Twins songs (or other early REM)

Update on my gato Jean Luc

Good news, he's back from the vet, and hence still alive.

As was postulated yesterday, he has a bad middle/inner ear infection (in at least one ear).

The ER vet cleaned them out yesterday and gave me ear wash and antibiotics to take home (which they used each once on him while he was there).

Bad news is, this morning he's even worse than he was yesterday, still can barely walk w/o falling over, hasn't eaten in a day and a half now, hasn't drank (that I've seen), and poor thing can't keep his eyes closed, think it makes him dizzy, as soon he seems to fall asleep he pops back up, so I imagine he's also pretty friggin tired.

And he hates the ear drops and esp. the antibiotics. I'm gonna go get some tuna this AM, maybe that'll entice him to get some food and moisture in him, but if he won't even touch that I'm gonna call the vet again this afternoon.

Gonna be a stressful day I think.

Thanks again for all the good wishes yesterday, y'all are the best ... s'why I'm here all the time

EDIT: as mentioned in Post #17 below he ate a little canned tuna and lapped up every drop of tuna juice that was in it, so that's good news!

Pic back in healthier days

My boy (cat) Jean Luc is headed to the ER, could use some thoughts and prayers

Woke up to discover my Burmese baby didn't eat (wet) dinner last night, and he's disinterested in brekkie today.

His gait is very unsteady, like he's falling over/collapsing when he tries to walk, and seems confused. He just turned 13 this last week.

He laid on my chest for like 1 hour just now, purring away, but I know he's far from okay. His regular vet has nothing available til Tuesday so I have to take him to some rando ER, that (I'd guess) is going to charge a fortune.

I just know it's going to be bad news ... and I friggin LOVE this cat, who I inherited from my late aunt about 1 year ago. He's absolutely the sweetest, cuddliest little love bug you could ever imagine.

Since I posted a bummer song yesterday, I'ma make up to you for Friday :)

brendan bensen - richest man (studio-2020)

A heartfelt power-pop ode to his daughter, and a catchy, killer tune

I love you
Whatever you do
You don't even have to try
Ever since your birth
It’s been heaven on Earth
You're mine, you're perfect in my eyes

I’ve got two beautiful babies
One hell of a good looking wife
Got twice the love and half the money
And I feel like the richest man alive
And I feel just like the richest man alive

I gave you your name
But you gave me my life
And you made this house a home
And after I'm gone
You'll carry on
And you'll have a family of your own

I've got two beautiful babies
One hell of a woman as my wife
I got, I got, I got
I got twice the love and half the money
Yeah yeah yeah
Must be the richest man alive

And all my days are warm and sunny
Ever since you came around
Yeah yeah yeah
I got twice the love and half the money
So I guess that makes me the richest man in town

The richest man alive
The richest man alive
Got to be the richest man alive
