In the bell curve of American political thought

any Democratic candidate would get the vote from everyone to his left, and some to his right. It seems to me that the closer the Democratic candidate is to the center, the more votes he will get in November. It seems so obvious to me. I don't see how any GOTV campaign changes this basic fact. I believe we need to start left of center and build more to the left rather than fighting from the left and losing everything to the right.

I am extremely liberal. Most of my friends, and certainly most acquaintances, are to the right of me. I'd rather have a candidate who I don't always agree with but who wins them over than one who's ideas I align with that fails to.

Our bar is Barack Obama high. Theirs is Donald Trump low.

They've known for three and a half years who they will vote for this November. We still don't know. 95% of them- 35 percent of voters- WILL VOTE for their candidate. Half of who is left WON'T VOTE. Further vetting of their candidate will not harm him; it will only strengthen his base. Any further vetting of our candidate won't help; it will only weaken our unity. They defend everything he does. We scrutinize everything our candidates ever said. They attack us. We fight each other.

I live in New York and I feel there is nothing I can do to stop Trump from being re-elected. I'm seeing very little being done that will prevent it.

My only hope is that Trump does such horrible things between now and November that no independent voter will vote for him. And even that is tempered by the fear that he does such horrible things and is still re-elected, giving him even more free reign to do even more horrible things.

I feel like I am watching the death of our Democracy.

Half of America WILL NOT vote for Trump. Half WILL NOT vote for a socialist.

What happens if those are the choices come November?

A dozen or more threads regarding a purposefully corny movie quote said in jest by a Democrat...

plays into the Trump/ Russia playbook of sowing the seeds of confusion and division in our side. Keep shit like this up and we're doomed.

I believe only one person can save this country- guaranteed.

Mitt Romney must run for President. Let's convince him. His phone numbers are 801-524-4380 and 202-224-5251.

Edit (again), for clarification. If Romney runs as a third party candidate, He won't win. But Then neither will Trump.

I like Bernie. A lot. I just wish he wasn't running.

Like him or not, he brings a divisiveness to the primaries that we can't afford right now. He brings out a divisiveness within me! Personally, I love the guy, but I wish he'd just go away. I truly believe it would make our chances of winning in November better. And I have a feeling some reactions to this post will bear out my thesis.
