Today's Tiedrich rant: Donald Trump is weak and stupid and also has six fingers on his freakishly tiny hands

Link: https://www.jefftiedrich.com/p/donald-trump-is-weak-and-stupid-and

yes, Little Donny Diaperstain got more votes than Nikki Haley in New Hampshire last night but he also fucking lost, because he’s a loser, and losing is what losers do.

Donald Trump let a girl — a brown girl, at that — take almost half his votes, and that could be a sign of a coming disaster for him this November. of course, that’s not how Trump is spinning it.

Quote:
“you know, we won New Hampshire three times now, three. we won it every time. we win the primary, we win the generals.”

yeah, no. fact check: the email lady beat Trump in New Hampshire in 2016 and Biden whipped his ass there in 2020.

but that’s Donny’s whole thing: to bluff and bluster and try to convince us he’s something he’s not. Trump is the chickenshit coward draft dodger who pretends to have the courage to disarm a school shooter. he’s the illiterate C-minus student who pretends to be a genius. he’s the half-a-billion-inheriting nepo baby who pretends to be self-made. he’s the failed casino operator and game show host who pretends to be a success..... Awesome rant, and he gives you many quick rebuttals you can use on your Repuke buddies down at the American Legion.

Pittsburgh's Carnegie Science Center taking Kamin family's name after historic $65 million gift

Post-Gazette link: https://www.post-gazette.com/business/development/2024/01/23/carnegie-science-center-kamin-donation/stories/202401230069

The Carnegie Science Center teased that a mysterious and transformational announcement was coming Tuesday afternoon, and boy were they were not kidding.

Bigwigs from both the North Shore museum and the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh — the consortium of four local museums that includes the Science Center — were on hand as the Science Center announced that it had recently received an unprecedented $65 million gift from Shadyside-based couple Daniel and Carole Kamin.

That’s by far the largest monetary donation to the Science Center since its founding in 1991, according to Jason Brown, the Science Center’s Henry Buhl Jr. director and Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh’s vice president. It’s also the biggest gift given to any entity within the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh since Andrew Carnegie’s original 1895 contribution, according to CMOP president and CEO Steven Knapp.

Going forward, the museum that used to bear Mr. Carnegie’s name will be known as the Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin Science Center.

Wow, this is big news on the North Shore!

The Carnegie Science Center is only a stone's throw from Acrisure Stadium (the former Heinz Field) - home of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Today's Tiedrich rant: four SCOTUS Justices are totally cool with mangled children in razor wire booby traps...

Link: https://www.jefftiedrich.com/p/four-scotus-justices-are-totally

bought-and-paid-for judicial hack Clarence Thomas sees no problem with mothers and their children drowning in the Rio Grande. ditto for his equally-corrupt compatriot Wytchfinder Alito. Beerheart Kavanaugh? same. Neil Gorsuch? apparently he hates migrants almost as much as he hates the fact that government exists.

the good news is that they were outvoted by the rest of the Supremes, who ruled 5-4 to allow the Biden administration to remove Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s razor wire booby traps from our southern border. the bad news is that once again, four miscreant Justices bent themselves into rhetorical pretzels in order to vote on the side of Team Evil.

our Constitution has this thing called the Supremacy Clause. calm the fuck down, racists, it’s not the kind of supremacy you wet your pants over. the Supremacy Clause says that the federal government’s laws take precendence over state laws. so if the federal government says it’s illegal to torture people until they drown to death trying to cross a river, the state of Texas doesn’t get to go nuh-uh, we’ll pull whatever shit we feel like.

long story short, the Supreme Court took one look at the mishegas going on in the Rio Grande and six of the Justices were all holy fuck, the Biden administration absolutely has the right to end that barbaric shit.

Whew! that SCOTUS vote is too close for comfort. As Jeff Tiedrich writes, it should have been 9-fucking-0.

Also he has some choice insults for Elise Stefanik in today's rant....

Pa.'s broadband authority reverses position on key state law before new federal funding arrives

Spotlight PA link: https://www.spotlightpa.org/news/2024/01/pennsylvania-rural-broandband-reverse/

HARRISBURG — A state agency recently reversed its position on whether Pennsylvania law could cause problems for an unprecedented surge of federal investment for expanding access to high-speed internet.

In the first draft of the state’s plan for administering more than $1 billion in federal funding, the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority said that to avoid a conflict with federal law it would waive an obscure state statute that restricts when local governments can build their own internet networks.

But in the latest draft of the document, submitted to the federal government last year, the agency reversed course, declaring that there was no conflict. The about-face came after the first draft of the plan drew public comments that included praise, pushback, and questions about the agency’s ability to set aside state law.

“It’s a complete 180,” said Sascha Meinrath, a professor of telecommunications at Penn State and lead author of two major state reports on rural broadband. “The original draft says this law poses a problem and the new iteration says there is no problem.”

I hope they get this figured out before the federal government decides to spend their broadband money elsewhere.

Today's Tiedrich rant: good fucking riddance to Ron Fucking DeSantis

Link: https://www.jefftiedrich.com/p/good-fucking-riddance-to-ron-fucking

it’s over. Ron DeSantis has packed it in and abandoned his bid to be president. the man who named his campaign PAC “Never Back Down” has backed all the way down and now slinks dejectedly back to the governor’s residence down in America’s dangly bit. to say that Ron shit the bed as a candidate would be an understatement — DeSantis broke new ground in bedcrappery. the guy was a fucking disaster. so as the smoke clears, one obvious question remains:

what were we so afraid of?

a year ago, we were all quaking in our boots with our hair on fire. Ron DeSantis is running. holy fucking shit! he’s going to huff and puff and blow our house down! the beltway press gleefully joined in, telling us all to be very fucking afraid.

Screenshot:

he’s super competent, we were told. he’s going to be a lot worse than Trump, they said, because he’s smarter and he won’t be a lazy fuck-up. he’s going to be our worst fascist nightmare.

yeah, no.

Great rant here - so many reminders why Ron DeSantis was a terrible candidate. So many memes and silly GIFs too.

Today's Tiedrich rant: fascist fuckfaces shocked to discover their fascist fuckfacery isn't popular

Link: https://www.jefftiedrich.com/p/fascist-fuckfaces-shocked-to-discover

Ron DeSantis is pouring himself a big mug of sad right now and he has no one to blame but his own fascist self. when schools in Florida started banning the dictionary, Puddingfingers fully expected to be hailed as a liberator and greeted with flowers.

what happened instead is that Ronny got the shit mocked out of him — and now Team Ron is starting to rethink this whole let’s-outdo-the-Nazis thing.

Quote:
Florida Republicans might be backing off support for Gov. Ron DeSantis’ notorious book bans after being caught off-guard by national backlash, according to a report. The state’s Republican legislature is starting to worry the action has gone too far, reported Politico, with lawmakers considering new rules to limit how many challenges can be brought.

boo fucking hoo, Team Ron. if you’d spent ten minutes outside the wingnut grievance bubble, you’d have known that banning the dictionary because little Janey might use it to look up the word ‘penis’ is nighmarish authoritarian bullshit that most people find repellant.
- more at link -

Should DUers waste one minute feeling sorry for Ron DeSantis? Oh hell no, he was done before he started. Most of us knew he'd never win a primary outside of Florida. Well OK, he might have won Alabama, but who cares about that?

Tiedrich also has some EXCELLENT comments about the word salads that Chump is barfing out these days. It's worth a click to read further on his daily blog.

Today's Tiedrich rant: a pastor was arrested for saving homeless people from freezing. what the fuck have we become

Link: https://www.jefftiedrich.com/p/a-pastor-was-arrested-for-saving

here’s a heartwarming story from our nation’s heartland.
Quote:
Chris Avell, pastor of Dad’s Place in Bryan, Ohio, was arraigned in court last Thursday because he kept his church open 24/7 to provide warmth to the unhoused.

I’m sorry, a pastor was arraigned for doing what? you read that right.

this past week, as much of the country suffered sub-zero temperatures, Chris Avell, a pastor in Ohio, looked at the weather report, looked at all the unhoused people in his neighborhood, and rightfully concluded that a lot of them were going to freeze to death unless somebody did something.

Pastor Avell decided that he was going to be that somebody, and opened the doors of his church to anyone who needed shelter — and his neighbors were all no, absolutely fucking not. they went to the police and said arrest this guy and the police were all arrest him? for what?

so some fuckface lawyer with too much time on their hands pored through every law on the books, and lo and behold, came up with this:
Quote:
Ohio law prohibits residential use in first-floor buildings in a business district. Since the church is zoned as a Central Business, the building is restricted from allowing people to eat or sleep on the property.
- more at link -

This is a great rant by Jeff Tiedrich and it's definitely worth a click to read the rest of it. I know we're not all Christians here on DU, and some of us aren't worshippers of any kind.

But we all understand that a pastor's calling is to follow the teachings of Jesus and to show charity for all people, even those who can't afford food or housing. Pastor Chris Avell of Bryan, Ohio is to be commended for going above and beyond, but instead he wound up arrested and charged with a misdemeanor.

WTF? Oh that's right, the old charitable Jesus has been replaced by MAGA Jesus. He's similar to this one you might remember from a few years ago...

Screenshot:

Tiedrich excoriates those lawyers who create public nuisance laws to prevent charity towards freezing homeless folks. Tiedrich's rant today is awesome!

Sen. Bob Casey asks congressional investigators to look at 'greedflation'

The senator, up for re-election, blames the run-up in prices on corporate greed

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette link: https://www.post-gazette.com/news/politics-state/2024/01/19/inflation-bob-casey-senate-2024-election/stories/202401160152

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Bob Casey has asked the investigative arm of Congress to investigate what he says is corporate greed costing American families thousands of dollars in jacked-up prices.

Mr. Casey, D-Pa., asked the Government Accountability Office to examine how “greedflation” is hitting consumers’ pockets and to evaluate measures that could help raise awareness. He has blamed inflation on company price hikes to increase profits, not President Joe Biden’s policies. “These corporate strategies to hide price increases and raise the unit cost of everyday items like food and household products are hurting families in Pennsylvania,” he wrote to the GAO.

“And consumers are noticing, as evidenced by a November 2023 poll in which 50% of U.S. respondents noticed food product sizes getting smaller, while prices remained the same. The American people should not have to tolerate corporate executives squeezing them for every last nickel and dime.”

Mr. Casey has been focused on this issue for some time, even as Republicans work to lay the blame for inflation at the president’s door. Economists see pandemic-related spending meant to stabilize the economy as a factor, along with war-impacted supply chains and steps taken by the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates.

Good on you Senator Casey!

And let's hope the Supreme Court doesn't kneecap the Government Accountability Office like it's trying to do for the other regulatory agencies that Americans rely on for stability.

DVR alert - are you a fan of Steven Wright the standup comic?

Steven Wright will be a guest on Stephen Colbert's Late Show tonight on CBS.
Most of us get the Late Show at 11:35 Eastern time, or 10:35 Central time.

I can't stay up that late any more, but I DVR Stephen Colbert and watch the next day. Stephen Wright is a national treasure, (droll and funny) but I haven't seen him on TV for several years.

About FakeNoose

Hey DU friends! Baby boomer here. I became a voter in 1972 when I turned 21, and I've been voting regularly ever since. For a long time I remained independent - always voting for Dem candidates. However that changed in 2008 when I wanted to vote for Hillary Clinton for President. But I live in Pennsylvania where we have closed elections, and my only chance to vote for Hillary was in the Dem primary. So I joined the Democratic Party in 2008, voted for Hillary, and I've never looked back. Barack Obama won the primary in Pennsylvania, as ell as most other states, and I supported him in the general election. It was a different story in 2016 .... You'll never convince me that Chump didn't CHEAT his way into the White House. The worst 4 years in the history of our country ensued, 2017 to 2020, and the first few days of 2021. We all lived through it and i don't need to explain it now. My goal is to make sure that Chump NEVER gets elected to ANYTHING again. Not even Dogcatcher of West Palm Beach FL. Whether he goes to prison is not up to me - but he must be CONVICTED of his crimes and PREVENTED from running for office again. Better yet - he should be in prison or six-feet-under. You get me? I love the cooperation, optimism and can-do spirit of Democratic Underground. We're a community of liberal-minded Americans and we know how to share our stories constructively and pro-actively. Let's all pitch in and get this job done. There has never been a more important election that right now, this year. Democrats everywhere MUST WIN. Joe Biden must win FOUR MORE YEARS!
