CDC warns men about facial hair dangers as coronavirus spreads

"Men may need to hack off their muttonchops, void their Van Dykes or pluck their ducktails if they plan on using a respirator, according to information from the CDC about how facial hair can interact with the devices."

"A graphic released by the agency shows the fashionable facial-hair-wearer which styles will conflict with potentially life-saving respirators as the US braces for the quickly spreading coronavirus to emerge state-side."

"Handlebar, walrus, and Zorro mustaches are fine, but the CDC says folks may need to lose their Fu Manchus, Dalis, and Englishes — because they could prevent respirators from making a seal on wearers’ faces."

U.S. House removes ERA ratification deadline, one obstacle to enactment

The U.S. House gave the Equal Rights Amendment a temporary new lease on life Thursday by voting to remove a 1982 deadline for ratification by the states.

The 232-to-183 vote, on a resolution introduced by Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), pushes the issue to the Senate, where Sens. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) have introduced a similar measure.

Almost 66,000 pot convictions dismissed in LA County

https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/13/us/california-los-angeles-marijuana-convictions/index.html

"The cases include 62,000 felony convictions for cases -- including those for marijuana sales and cultivation -- dating back to 1961, and about 4,000 misdemeanor possession cases, District Attorney Jackie Lacey's office said."

"The 66,000 dismissals mean conviction relief for about 53,000 people. About 45% are Latino; 32% are black; and 20% are white, Lacey's office said."

"In November 2016, California voters OK'd the legalization of recreational marijuana by approving Proposition 64. The proposition's passage also allows people to petition the judicial system to have their old pot convictions expunged."

"In 2018, the state Legislature passed AB 1793, which required the state Department of Justice to scour California's crime records and find past cannabis convictions that are eligible to be expunged or downgraded to misdemeanors -- generally, convictions for activities that would no longer be crimes under Proposition 64."

About BigmanPigman

I am 57, retired teacher and illustrator, life-long dem., activist, union member. Also I do not use social media and I'm technologically retarded. I love dogs, rock music and swearing (a lot). My 17 year old "puppy" died on June 2, 2020. She grew up listening to Animals (Pink Floyd). She has kept me sane through the tRump years, not easy, and has given me endless love, companionship, kisses and tail wags.
