California Democratic Party Snubs Feinstein and Endorses Kevin De Leon

Source: New York Times

LOS ANGELES -- Six weeks after winning an overwhelming victory among California primary voters, Senator Dianne Feinstein suffered an embarrassing setback Saturday night as the state Democratic Party officially endorsed her rival for election this November.

Kevin de Len, the Democratic leader in California's State Senate, won the support of the party leadership despite an effort by Ms. Feinstein to convince the party not to offer an endorsement.

The vote for Mr. de Len reflected the rise of younger liberal activists in the California Democratic leadership, some of whom regard Ms. Feinstein as a moderate compared with the intensely progressive voices who are coming up through the party ranks. These activists tend to be younger and more left-leaning than the state party at large.

Mr. de Len, 51, remains a long-shot candidate in his two-way race against the 85-year-old Ms. Feinstein in November; the two Democrats are facing each other, with no Republican in the mix, after they prevailed in the state's so-called "top two" open primary last month. Still, the vote for Mr. de Leon was a reminder of Ms. Feinstein's tepid support among liberal Democrats as the party debates how to take on President Trump in the fall midterm elections.

Bad move by California Dems in my view, regardless of looking "to the future". You have the answer of who the people wanted.....

Doug Ford is Ontario's next premier

Source: Toronto Star

The province of Ontario is now a Ford nation.

Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford capped an improbable rise to power Thursday, winning the Ontario election with a majority government and banishing Kathleen Wynne’s Liberals into political oblivion after almost 15 years in office.

“This is incredible. My friends, this victory belongs to you. Tonight the people of Ontario have spoken. You have come together around one common vision of Ontario,” Ford, 53, told cheering supporters in Etobicoke.

“We will work every single day for a better Ontario,” said the rookie leader, who only took the helm on March 10 after the resignation of Patrick Brown.

Inexplicable that Canadians would do this in any form seeing how well "right-wing populism" is working in the US.

Then comes the next line.

"In 1962 she became pregnant by her husband's brother Lyle Dehmlow," it reads, "and moved to California."

RI State Rep calls Parkland shooting survivor "dummy" on Twitter

http://www.abc6.com/story/38024330/ri-state-rep-calls-parkland-shooting-survivor-dummy-on-twitter

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) -- An outspoken state lawmaker and fierce defender of the Second Amendment is facing backlash over his choice of words on Twitter, directed at a student survivor of the Parkland, Florida school tragedy.

In the wake of the deadly shooting over the weekend at a waffle house in Nashville, Republican Rep. Mike Chippendale of Foster--and Parkland shooting survivor Emma Gonzalez, sparred on Twitter over the role of guns in keeping people safe.

Regarding the waffle house shooter, Gonzalez argued "the local police say a man at the scene wrestled his gun away - looks like you don't need to arm a teacher to stop a shooting."

Chippendale fired back, saying "if he did have a gun - the police still wouldn't be searching for the gunman, and the entire region wouldn't be on lockdown - dummy."

There's a reason we have something like nine elected Republicans in this state.

Police investigating possible hate crime in New York City subway assault

[link:https://www.yahoo.com/news/police-investigating-possible-hate-crime-new-york-city-subway-assault-043052124.html|

The New York City Police Department is investigating an incident involving a Hispanic man, who was allegedly beaten and pushed onto the subway tracks Friday night at Manhattan’s Union Square subway station.

According to the NYPD, the suspect is a black man wearing a red hat and red T-shirt that displayed President Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.” The suspect shouted racial slurs at the victim.

A press release sent out by the NYPD on Saturday said the incident occurred after the 24-year-old victim “engaged in a verbal dispute” with the suspect on board a “4” train as it approached the Union Square station.

The NYPD said the suspect “made multiple derogatory statements regarding the victim’s ethnicity” during the argument. After the victim got off the train, police said the suspect followed him onto the platform and “punched him on his head multiple times” before pushing the victim onto the tracks.
