Tone Deaf Media and the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal

I am not a hardcore Clinton fan. I disagreed with many of his centrist policies. But, I well remember the unfairness of the media pile on that the media took for 8 years.

I never understood why the media had a problem with the Clintons but, it began before he took office in 1992. And its never stopped.

The Trump fans who complain of people being mean to Trump have nothing compared to what the media did to Bill and Hillary Clinton in the 1990s. It was brutal.

As a woman I am upset with the tone deafness of the media in regards to the Lewinsky scandal and Bill Clinton.

The MeToo Movement is not about consensual sex.

It is about women being forced to have sex, being raped, being harassed by powerful men with their jobs and careers held hostage as a result.

These are surviors.

Monica Lewinsky was a 24 year old college graduate in the late 90s. She was not a 16/17 novice in the world.
She knew what sex was about.
And Bill Clinton did not force her to have sex. He did not hold her career hostage.
It was consensual.

Clinton was wrong in general to be chasing after young women to begin with. He was wrong for his career of sexual encounters with women while married.

And wrong for lying

Both parties were wrong.

But, the media is ganging up to condemn Clinton as if he was like Bill Cosby or Donald Trump (who forced himself on women, many perfect strangers).

I feel they are using the MeToo movement as an excuse to go after Bill Clinton just like it was 1998.

Question to ponder and debate

Fox is the propaganda arm of Trump and his administration. They are willing to go to depths very few would go in their support of
Trump and garbage stomping of anyone or anything that poses a threat to him.
Their bond is such that Shaun Hannity is an unofficial member of Trump's advisers.
This is a match made in maga zombie heaven.

So, if ever there come a time that Fox and Trump have a huge falling out, and not the pretend kind Ailes and Trump had during the primaries, but, a real ugly falling out which side would the majority of Trump's fanatical supporters go with?

Think carefully.

Obama Aides target of Israeli Spy Firm....Trump Administration Involvement?

Daily Beast has a report regarding an Israeli Spy firm, Black Cube, that was spying on Obama aides Ben Rhodes and Colin Kahl.
Documents from the Observer, in a story over the weekend, claim aides from the Trump administration hired the firm to discredit both Rhodes and Kahl in an attempt to smear the Iranian Nuclear Deal.
Ronan Farrow of the New Yorker reports that it was not the administration but, a private sector client that hired the firm to do this.
So, who is behind it is still up for debate.

"Farrow says he unearthed documents that show Black Cube compiled detailed reports on former Obama administration officials Ben Rhodes and Colin Kahl, including their addresses, information about family members, and even the makes of their cars. Rhodes and Kahl’s wives say they were approached via email by a woman claiming to be from a U.K.-based firm. On LinkedIn, the names of both women—Adriana Gavrilo and Eva Novak—appeared to show the same thin, blond woman claiming to be fluent in Serbian; Novak’s profile was deleted shortly after Black Cube was asked for comment, The New Yorker reports. Black Cube, which is reportedly staffed by elite former Mossad agents and high-level Israeli intel officials, denied the claims."

So Long, Babs

I was a young woman when Barbara Bush was First Lady.
I always liked her.
She was more modern then many in her party and had this likable gruffness.
She was the last of the sane republicans. The New England Republicans with their chin up, good humor and class. The republicans that you liked even if you were a democrat because they were not evil. They were just the opposition party.
The Christine Todd Whitman types. The sensible and compassionate republicans.
The kind that would show love and caring for all people.
The kind I grew up with as a kid in the 60s, 70s and early 80s - despite Reaganism.
Barbara, with her white hair, sensible shoes, humor and honesty.
With the passing of Barbara, and soon George, the last of the New England, sane, public service republicans pass into history.
All we have left is the selfish, self obsessed, overly religious, cult like and hateful group that took their place is left and that makes me very sad.

We may have to break out that old rhyme from the Grover Cleveland era.
Back then, Cleveland was a lawyer and bachelor when it happened and when running for President years later owned up to it.

But, in 2018, the corrupt and criminal President was married and paying off people to keep things hidden.

Still, we may need to break this old rhyme out.

Paul Ryan is in trouble in his district

Paul Ryan's district ends at the Wisconsin/Illinois border in Beloit, Wisconsin.
The district south of that is my district in Illinois. We, unfortunately have Adam Kinzinger as our Rep.
My husband works in Ryan's district and he has been telling me for awhile that Ryan is in trouble. The people in his district hate him.
The reason Ryan has been re-elected over and over is that our general area of southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois is that in the 90s the democratic party ceded the area to republicans.
I really have no idea why but, the party just faded around here.
In my city of Rockford, we used to be a strong democratic town. It was a strong democratic area for years. The area overall was factory with strong union presence and alot of farms outward.
In Ryan's district was pretty much like Rockford in factories, unions and farms.
Shortly after the democratic party began fading from our area the factories began shutting down and moving to Mexico and then, some went to China. Rockford and Janesville, Wisc. are testaments to what was before and now the great factories stand depressingly in the beginnings of decay and ruin. Some were saved by developers who turned them into apartments and condos for the young professionals.
Sadly, the attempts at renovating our small downtown and surrounding areas are somewhat competing with high unemployment and high crime (Rockford is listed as one of the most dangerous small cities). The crime has spread to the whole area and not confined to just the so called 'bad areas'. And now, its hit with the drug crisis as well.
Janesville, Wisc. where Ryan lives, is a reflection of Rockford. We are about a half hour apart and very much the same small city.
So, while the voters have the luxury of having the most powerful republican as their representative, someone who could move things and address the problems facing Janesville and the votrs, he refuses to bother himself with this. He has refused to hold Town Halls. He does not talk with the average voter, preferring instead to ignore them while coddling the very wealthy. And mostly the very wealthy who do not even live in Wisconsin.
So, while Janesville, like Rockford, continues its slide into ruin, the voters have grown extremely angry at him. And Ryan has a fairly strong democrat running against him. A guy who is one of the voters and understands. He is running due to the frustration and anger at Ryan's aloof attitude towards the average guy.
This is the first time Ryan has a real fight on his hands and from what my husband hears, Ryan is in trouble in his district.

My grandparents lived there when my mother, brothers and sisters and myself went to visit them when I was in High School. I met my uncles, aunts and cousins.

My grandfather died 2 weeks after we left for home here in America. It was 1974

Laon is about 100 miles north of Paris in the Picardy region.

During the war my family lived in the Alsace-Lorraine region of France in the north east not far from Luxembourg/Belgium. My grandfather was a Police Captain and Antifa.

When the Nazis first invaded France in 1940, my family traveled to the south of France, also known as Vichy. As families along the road traveled to escape the Nazi invasion, the German planes would shoot - rat-tat-tat-tat - along the roads at the people. My family lived in the south for 18 months when my grandparents decided to return due to homesickness.

My mother told me stories of Nazis just walking into homes and taking food and whatever. Of wearing gas masks to school. And of neighbors who were forced to wear the star on their clothes and disappearing mysteriously (at least to my mom and her siblings) in the middle of the night.

My grandfather belonged to the Resistance. Mom remembers hearing my grandparents talking escape routes if he got found out. And she remembers my grandfather having a code book and listening to the the BBC very low on the radio. When the part from De Gaulle would speak on French for French, there would be codes spoken and my grandfather would follow them to know the message. He knew when the invasion began in Normandy. When Paris was liberated.

When the fighting came to my family's town the people hid in the cellars underground. Heavy fighting took place above for 3 days and nights. And then, silence.

One of the men crept upstairs and opened the door. Coming down the street was a lone tank. As it got closer he saw the American Flag and grinning G.I.s. Everyone spilled out and there was celebrating for a week straight.

My grandfather would bring home a different G.I. every night to share in his family's meager meal. He loved the G.I.s.

On a side note: When I married my first husband I knew him to be adopted. At the time he had no interest in finding out who he was. We had my daughter together. And divorced over 30 years ago. Recently he did one of those genetic tests. It turns out he is half Italian and half Jewish.

I mention this because of my mother seeing jewish families disappearing. And though she died 2 years ago, one of her granddaughters turns out to be part Jewish and the 'tribe' she came from was the Jewish tribe that made up the bulk of the deaths in those fascist concentration camps.

Now I see things happening in this country that has me alarmed. I remember the stories we used to beg my mom to tell us of France and of the war. I remember how my grandfather belonged to the Resistance. I remember the books I read in my 20s about that time to learn the history. And now I have a daughter and 2 beautiful little girls who carry Jewish blood while Fascists march with tiki torches in Charlottesville trashing Jews.

I see the racist and bigoted 'President' and his gang. The ever twisted and sick Steve Bannon and his poison being written everyday to those weak minded, angry fascists in waiting.

I have a Resistance sticker on my car both to honor my grandfather but, also to stick up my middle finger to America's nazis and fascists who want a replay of that dark time.

I know the horror and suffering that the uprising of fascism in this country can bring.

But, anytime someone tries to trash Antifa or thinks that Antifa are thugs, I cheer them on. I support and am a fan of Antifa. I wish I was in my 20s and could take part. But, for now, my support is for Antifa.
