Sanders draws thousands to rallies against Senate healthcare bill

TheHill:

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) drew thousands of people to his rallies this weekend, held to encourage senators to oppose the Senate GOP healthcare plan.

On Saturday night, Sanders drew a crowd of about 1,600 in Pennsylvania, according to the Pittsburg Post-Gazette.

“We will not be part of a process which takes from working families, takes from the sick, takes from the children, takes from the elderly, takes from the poor, in order to give huge tax breaks to people who don’t need them,” Sanders said during the rally.

“A great nation is not judged by the number of millionaires and billionaires it has,” he continued, but “how well it rests the most vulnerable."
On Sunday, the Vermont senator held a rally in Ohio, where he drew about 2,200 people and similarly spoke out against the Senate's healthcare proposal.

Bernie Sanders extremely disappointed by stalling of Californias single-payer health care bill

SacBee:

Sen. Bernie Sanders is not happy with Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, who on Friday called a proposed California universal health bill “woefully incomplete” and killed it for the year.

“I am extremely disappointed that the speaker of the California Assembly is refusing to allow S.B 562, the single-payer health care bill passed by the state Senate, to come to the Assembly floor for a vote,” Sanders said in a statement issued Saturday.

Having recently urged California to be the nation’s leader in instituting universal health care policy, Sanders has been a strong supporter of Senate Bill 562, which would create a universal, publicly funded health care system for the state.

“If the great state of California has the courage to take on the greed of the insurance companies and the drug companies, the rest of the country will follow,” Sanders continued in Saturday’s statement.

Schumer: 'You dont blame other people' for losing an election

TheHill:

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Sunday said you have to blame yourself, not others, when you lose an election.

During an interview on ABC's "This Week," Schumer said the lesson the Democrats should take from their loss in Georgia is that the party needs a clear message and agenda.

"Democrats need a strong, bold, sharp-edged and commonsense economic agenda. Policy, platform, message that appeal to the middle class, that resonate with the middle class, and show that — and unite Democrats," he said.
"This economic message platform is going to resonate. It’s what we were missing, and it’s not going to be baby steps — it’s going to bold."
