AG Leslie Rutledge has dropped out of the Arkansas Governor's race.

The good news is that now I don't have to vote in the GQP primary. The bad news is that there is not so much as a speed bump between Sarah Smokey Eyes and the Governor's office.

Hey Grandpa. What's for supper?

Calf liver and onions cooked in bacon on the griddle. Mashed potatoes and brown gravy. Squash with more onions from the griddle.

I had my Covid Booster yesterday and I'm worried.

I had no effects - none. Does that mean there was no immune response?

I knew I had received a vaccine after the first two. This time, nothing.

I question the rush to condemn Gen Powell here.

I was mobilized from the Army Reserve in the build-up to the invasion of Iraq. I was skeptical about the justification to invade Iraq - at first.

I sat through a daily intelligence briefing on Iraq that the Regular Army commanding general for whom I worked received. There was never any doubt expressed by the intelligence folks that there were WMD in Iraq. It wasn't a matter of the intelligence community having a high degree of confidence in their analysis, there was simply no question. By the time the invasion occurred, the briefings had overcome my skepticism and I was convinced the WMD were going to be found.

We now know that Cheney and Rumsfeld had their thumbs on the scale and got the intelligence analysis that they wanted despite the evidence. That capitulation to Cheney and Rumsfeld is on the intelligence community and not the consumers of the intelligence. Gen Powell did not create the bogus intelligence, he was the victim of a lie.

A very small bit of surprising good news on Covid.

Last week, a state court trial court judge in Pulaski County (Little Rock), Arkansas, entered a temporary restraining order (not a final decision) stopping enforcement of the Arkansas law prohibiting mask mandates in public schools pending a final hearing in a lawsuit challenging the law. The case will certainly ultimately be decided by the Arkansas Supreme Court where I would not hazard a prediction about the outcome.

That decision was surprising enough but my home town school district in south Arkansas has decided to institute a mask mandate on the strength of the TRO. Granted my home town is slightly pinker than most of the blood red state but I still find the decision surprisingly brave.

Maybe - just maybe - people are finally becoming concerned about the lives of our children.

I've got to tell someone and no one here really knows who I am, so "tag" DU is it.

I am the proud grandfather of the cutest, smartest two and a half year old in the history of humankind. I've just learned he is to be the big brother - of twins!

As of yet, I am forbidden to tell anyone, so keep it on the down-low.

I was caught off guard by the change in the CDC mask guidance. I was confused and skeptical.

Then I remembered what I have been saying for months: "I'll wear a mask until Dr. Fauci tells me I don't have to."

Well, Dr. Fauci has told me I don't have to keep wearing the damned mask. I will accept the good news. Well, maybe except at Walmart - people there scare me.

I attended a commissioning this morning.

The last time I was at a commissioning ceremony was my own in 1979.

For a couple of years, I have been mentoring a young ROTC cadet as she planned her pre-law program, worked her way through the process of applying for law school, and obtaining an educational delay from the Army. She invited me to attend the commissioning. I am confident she will do well in law school and be a fine JAG officer.

I was surprised how moving I found it all to be.
