"How Amy Klobuchar Treats Her Staff" - New York Times

"Senator Amy Klobuchar was hungry, forkless and losing patience.

An aide, joining her on a trip to South Carolina in 2008, had procured a salad for his boss while hauling their bags through an airport terminal. But once onboard, he delivered the grim news: He had fumbled the plastic eating utensils before reaching the gate, and the crew did not have any forks on such a short flight.

What happened next was typical: Ms. Klobuchar berated her aide instantly for the slip-up. What happened after that was not: She pulled a comb from her bag and began eating the salad with it, according to four people familiar with the episode.

Then she handed the comb to her staff member with a directive: Clean it."

She doesn't have a very big following here (Only 2 percent, according to the Democratic Primaries thread statistics) but I thought this was an interesting enough article to share anyway.

Trump says he's not 'happy' or 'thrilled' with bipartisan border deal

Source: Washington Post

The tentative deal, announced Monday evening by congressional negotiators, would provide only a fraction of the $5.7 billion President Trump was seeking for 200 miles of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. It would instead provide $1.375 billion for 55 miles of new border fences.

“I can’t say I’m happy. I can’t say I’m thrilled,” Trump said of the deal.

Unless a border deal is signed into law, the government will enter another partial shutdown on Saturday.
This is a developing story. It will be updated.

Worries me that Coulter or Limbaugh may have gotten to him and he's going to veto it.

Elkhart Indiana getting new voting machines with paper trails.

GOSHEN — New voting machines for every precinct in Elkhart County could be delivered as soon as next week, the Elkhart County Commissioners learned Monday.

The commissioners passed a resolution supporting the purchase of 300 vote tabulators from Election Systems and Software, which the Elkhart County Election board approved at a recent meeting of its own. The Elkhart County Council expressed support for the $1.7 million purchase Saturday, after hearing that there could be a “cash discount” if the county could provide all the money upfront.

The hybrid touchscreen and paper system will meet new state standards expected in the coming years,
which would mandate having a paper trail to make hand recounts possible, according to Clerk of the Circuit Court Chris Anderson. He said he wants to have the new machines in place before May so the county can use them in the primary and general elections this year and know what to expect in time for the 2020 presidential election.

I was unaware that it's likely Indiana will pass measures sometime soon that mandate voting machines have a paper trail.

This is how close the crowds at the Trump/Beto rallies will be tonight.

Hope nothing breaks out, but it's hard to imagine nothing doesn't.

Is it pointless? Probably. But cast your DailyKos straw vote poll for the fun of it.

I just cast mine for Kamala. Surprised by the low support for Booker. Wasn't expecting him to suddenly rise to the top, but 2 percent?

Is there a reason indictments tend to drop on Fridays?

That always seems to be the case. I'm sure there's a legal reason for it, I'm just not aware of.

First on CNN: Hundreds of TSA screeners, working without pay, calling out sick at major airports

Washington (CNN)Hundreds of Transportation Security Administration officers, who are required to work without paychecks through the partial government shutdown, have called out from work this week from at least four major airports, according to two senior agency officials and three TSA employee union officials.

The mass call outs could inevitably mean air travel is less secure, especially as the shutdown enters its second week with no clear end to the political stalemate in sight.

"This will definitely affect the flying public who we (are) sworn to protect," Hydrick Thomas, president of the national TSA employee union, told CNN.

At New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, as many as 170 TSA employees have called out each day this week, Thomas tells CNN. Officers from a morning shift were required to work extra hours to cover the gaps.

Trump is shutting down the government over a fake national security issue and creating an actual national security issue.

Every time my father-in-law says something racist, I make a $10 donation to the DLCC.

Today, they got $30. 10-20 each visit every week isn’t uncommon. The things I do for my wife!

Anyone else do something like this?
