Adam Kinzinger, outspoken GOP Trump critic, won't seek reelection for US House seat

Source: CNN

(CNN)Rep. Adam Kinzinger, a Republican from Illinois who has been a strong critic of former President Donald Trump, announced in a video Friday morning he is not running for reelection.

"I also remember during that campaign saying that if I ever thought it was time to move on from Congress, I would, and that time is now," Kinzinger said.

Kinzinger is one of two Republican members of the House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol Hill riot.

This story is breaking and will be updated.

Board of Elections 'Discrepancy' Puts Mayoral Primary Vote in Disarray

Source: New York Times

The New York City mayor’s race plunged into chaos on Tuesday night after the city Board of Elections released a new tally of votes in the Democratic mayoral primary, and then, several hours later, removed the tabulations from its website while citing a “discrepancy.”

The results released earlier in the day had suggested that the race between Eric Adams and his two closest rivals had tightened significantly.

But just a few hours after releasing the results, the elections board issued a mysterious tweet revealing a “discrepancy” in the report, saying that it was working with its “technical staff to identify where the discrepancy occurred.”

The discrepancy was related to the “difference in votes cast” between what was disclosed on primary night and the results released on Tuesday, according to a Board of Elections official.

Basically, you know those ranked choice votes that were released earlier today? They may be inaccurate due to a mistake from the New York Board of Elections.

Per 538, Biden's approval is at the highest it's been since his inauguration.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/biden-approval-rating/

His 55 percent average approval is the highest it’s been since immediately after his inauguration.

It’s also worth noting that Biden’s approval/disapproval is 55/39, or +16. Trump spent much of his term around 45/55, or -10.

It means that roughly the same 55 percent that disapproved of Trump, approve of Biden, which makes sense. But there’s a 6 percent difference between Trump’s approval and Biden’s disapproval...meaning there’s a small but not insignificant amount of voters that approved of Trump, but DONT disapprove of Biden.

Am I missing something in terms of priorities here?

Do you know any "independents" that are actually independents?

I ask because I know a few people who will claim to be independents, but all they do is spew right-wing talking points and vote for Republicans. My neighbor swears that he's an independent because he voted for Obama in 2008...but leaves out that he's voted straight ticket GOP in every election since then.

GONE.

GOODBYE MOTHERFUCKER!!

January 18, 2021

Thank you, DU, for being my blue oasis in the sea of red I live in.

Just 48 hours remain in the Trump presidency. I discovered DU shortly after his term began and joined shortly after I lurked for a couple months. I was looking for a place where I could talk about Democratic ideals, something I desperately needed considering I live in a deeply red county in Indiana.

Since then, I spend no less than a couple hours a day surfing DU, it gave me the confidence to join my local Democratic party and work to help flip the mayoral seat blue in 2018 (which we did!!).

I don't post a ton, and I'm far from the most relevant posters here. But regardless, as Trump's term comes to an end, I just wanted to say thank you to DU and all it's posters for keeping me sane over the last 4 years.

Random question, but what was Trump's October surprise supposed to be?

The Hunter Biden laptop stuff? Because if it was, it was the least-effective October surprise we’ve ever seen.
