Will there ever be another true Presidential landslide (400+ Electoral Votes) ever again?

Last 100 years with 400+ Electoral Votes in an election:

1928: Herbert Hoover 444, Al Smith 87
1932: FDR 472, Herbert Hoover 59
1936: FDR 523, Alf Landon 8
1940: FDR 449, Wendell Willkie 82
1944: FDR 432, Thomas E. Dewey 99
1952: Dwight D. Eisenhower 442, Adlai Stevenson II 89
1956: Dwight D. Eisenhower 457, Adlai Stevenson II 73
1964: LBJ 486, Barry Goldwater 52
1972: Richard Nixon 520, George McGovern 17
1980: Ronald Reagan 489, Jimmy Carter 49
1984: Ronald Reagan 525, Walter Mondale 13
1988: George H. W. Bush 426, Michael Dukakis 111

Both sides have done it several times over the last 100 years (Republicans 7 times, Democrats 5 times), but the last time anyone has gotten over 400 EV's was 1988. Do you think it's even possible for one side to do it again? If yes, what kind of political atmosphere would it take? If no, why not?

Desperate search for survivors after Gaza refugee camp is hit in Israeli airstrike

Source: NBC News

Desperate Palestinians were using their bare hands Tuesday to retrieve bodies buried in the ruins of a Gaza refugee camp moments after it was hit by an airstrike that reduced more than a dozen buildings to rubble, killed dozens and wounded hundreds of people, according to local health officials.

The Israeli military said its attack on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza killed senior Hamas commander Ibrahim Biari, who they said was an architect of the Oct. 7 terror attack that left more than 1,400 people dead in Israel across kibbutzim, at a music festival and throughout in the nation's south, with hundreds more taken hostage.

"Tonight we eliminated the murderous terrorist Ibrahim Biari," IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said.

Biari was the commander of Hamas’ Central Jabaliya Battalion and he was targeted as part of a wide-scale “strike on terrorists and terror infrastructure,” the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement.

Poll: Haley catches DeSantis for second place in Iowa

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley are tied for second place with 16% each. In August, DeSantis was sitting at 19% in the poll, while Haley was at just 6%.

“You just have [Haley] rising. You have DeSantis kind of holding on for second place” pollster J. Ann Selzer, president of Selzer & Co., which conducted the survey, told the Des Moines Register. “But both of them are on ground that you could only describe as shaky compared to the solid ground that Donald Trump stands on.

“If anything, he’s showing improvement.”

The Democratic National Committee sent two emails within 20 minutes of each other Monday morning attacking Haley, who Monday filed to appear on the primary ballot in her home state of South Carolina.

Federal judge grants Texas' motion to temporarily stop the Biden administration from removing razor wire at the US-Mexic

Federal judge grants Texas’ motion to temporarily stop the Biden administration from removing razor wire at the US-Mexico border

A federal judge on Monday granted Texas’ motion to temporarily stop the Biden administration from removing the razor wire at the US-Mexico border, pending a preliminary injunction hearing.

The temporary win for Texas, which states the federal government shall not remove, disassemble, degrade or tamper with the concertina wire, comes with one exception, which allows the wire to be removed in the case of a “medical emergency that mostly likely results in serious bodily injury or death to a person,” according to the order issued by US District Judge Alia Moses.

The lawsuit, filed in the Western District of Texas, marks the latest chapter of the legal saga between the state and the Biden administration over border security during a migration surge that is straining local and federal resources.

The defendants include the Department of Homeland Security; DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, US Customs and Border Protection, CBP’s acting commissioner Troy Miller, US Border Patrol, USBP’s Chief Jason Owens and USBP Del Rio Sector acting chief patrol agent Juan Bernal.

Andrew Cuomo Blames 'Cancel Culture On Steroids' For Downfall

Andrew Cuomo is still attempting to brush off the many sexual harassment allegations against him.

The former New York governor decried “cancel culture” on Friday’s episode of “Real Time With Bill Maher,” two years after he resigned following an independent investigation that cited 11 women’s claims of misconduct.

“This is the cancel culture on steroids at the highest level — with a justice department,” he said. “Eleven cases trigger the cancel culture. Everyone has to be first before they get accused by a women’s group of not moving fast enough.”

“The president of the United States within hours says: ‘You have to resign, but I didn’t read the report. But doesn’t matter. You have to resign,’” Cuomo said. “And now it’s dominoes among the Democrats.”

Rep. Bowman pleads guilty after pulling fire alarm ahead of House spending bill vote

Source: ABC News

Rep. Jamaal Bowman pleaded guilty on Thursday after being charged with falsely pulling the fire alarm at a congressional office building, a misdemeanor, before the House voted on a stopgap spending bill to fund the government last month.

"I'm thankful for the quick resolution from the District of Columbia Attorney General's office on this issue and grateful that the United States Capitol Police General Counsel's office agreed I did not obstruct nor intend to obstruct any House vote or proceedings. I am responsible for activating a fire alarm, I will be paying the fine issued, and look forward to these charges being ultimately dropped," Bowman initially said in a statement Wednesday after he was hit with the misdemeanor charge.

"I think we all know that Republicans will attempt to use this to distract everyone from their mess, but I look forward to putting this behind me and to continue working hard to deliver for New Yorkers," he said.

After his court appearance on Thursday, Bowman told ABC News, "I regret Capitol Police resources needed to be used to respond to that. I'm glad no one was hurt."

Democrat predicts Tlaib will face censure once Speaker elected

Source: The Hill

Democratic Rep. Jared Moskowitz (Fla.) suggested Tuesday that Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) may face censure over her statements on the Israel-Hamas war once the House elects a Speaker.

“I think once we get a House Speaker here, I think that censure resolution will come to the floor and I do think it’s something everyone should consider,” he said on Fox News when asked whether there could be a censure after Tlaib issued a statement about the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital explosion.

“This is about U.S. intelligence, this is about U.S. information, this is about not willing to trust the Biden administration and U.S. intelligence but instead continuing to pretend like the Ministry of Health out of Gaza is nothing other than a terrorist organization,” he added.

Some Republican lawmakers have floated a censure resolution directed at Tlaib over her comments about the ensuing violence in the region since Hamas launched its deadly attack on Israel on Oct. 7. Tlaib and a handful of other Democratic lawmakers have faced criticism for their remarks on the ongoing violence in Israel and Gaza.

Rep. Ilhan Omar slams President Joe Biden

I hate Newsweek, but the video is real. Biden is doing a great job with all that's going on right now, she needs to focus her anger elsewhere.

Former US congressman says family members killed in Gaza church blast

Source: The Guardian

The first Palestinian American to serve as a US Congress member said he was grieving after several of his relatives were killed at a Greek Orthodox church in Gaza that authorities report was hit by an Israeli airstrike.

Justin Amash detailed his sorrow over losing family members amid the Israel-Hamas war in a post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

“I was really worried about this. With great sadness, I have now confirmed that several of my relatives … were killed at Saint Porphyrius Orthodox Church in Gaza, where they had been sheltering, when part of the complex was destroyed as the result of an Israeli airstrike,” Amash wrote in a post that pictured whom he identified as two lost family members, Viola and Yara.

The ex-congressman’s post continued: “Give rest, O Lord, to their souls, and may their memories be eternal. The Palestinian Christian community has endured so much. Our family is hurting badly. May God watch over all Christians in Gaza – and all Israelis and Palestinians who are suffering, whatever their religion or creed.”

Democratic senators introduce bill establishing Supreme Court term limits

Source: The Hill

A group of Democratic senators introduced a bill Thursday that would radically change the makeup of the Supreme Court, amid ongoing concerns over court ethics and its increasingly conservative makeup.

The legislation would appoint a new Supreme Court justice every two years, with that justice hearing every case for 18 years before stepping back from the bench and only hearing a “small number of constitutionally required cases.”

“The Supreme Court is facing a crisis of legitimacy that is exacerbated by radical decisions at odds with established legal precedent, ethical lapses of sitting justices, and politicization of the confirmation process,” Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) said in a statement.

“This crisis has eroded faith and confidence in our nation’s highest court. Fundamental reform is necessary to address this crisis and restore trust in the institution.”

This is not a Constitutional Amendment. Even in the extremely unlikely even that it passed and was signed into law, It would almost certainly get struck down, perhaps 9-0.
