Polybius's JournalNow that the press conference is over, do you think that calls for Biden to drop out will come to an end?
Regardless of what you want, what do you think happens next? That they all stop and we unite as a Party? That a couple more small-name Democrats call for him to end his campaign? Or shit hits the fan in the next week?
Top Democrat Asks Biden to Step Aside After High-Stakes Press Conference
Source: Newsweek
Representative Jim Himes of Connecticut, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, called for President Joe Biden to step aside as the party's 2024 presidential nominee on Thursday night after Biden's press conference.
Biden survived Thursday night's presser at the NATO summit in Washington, D.C., with minimal gaffes. However, in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday night, Himes wrote, "Joe Biden's record of public service is unrivaled. His accomplishments are immense. His legacy as a great president is secure. He must not risk that legacy, those accomplishments and American democracy to soldier on in the face of the horrors promised by [former President] Donald Trump."
Himes called for the president to "step away from the presidential campaign," adding, "The 2024 election will define the future of American democracy, and we must put forth the strongest candidate possible to confront the threat posed by Trump's promised MAGA [Make America Great Again] authoritarianism. I no longer believe that is Joe Biden ..."
Newsweek reached out to Himes' office and Biden's campaign via email for comment on Thursday night.

Welch becomes first Senate Democrat to publicly urge Biden to withdraw from race
Source: The Hill
Sen. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) on Wednesday became the first Senate Democrat to publicly call on President Biden to withdraw from the presidential race.
Welch wrote in a Washington Post op-ed that while he has great respect for the president, whom he calls one of the best of his lifetime, it is time for Biden to step aside for the good of the country.
I, like folks across the country, am worried about Novembers election. The stakes could not be higher. We cannot unsee President Bidens disastrous debate performance. We cannot ignore or dismiss the valid questions raised since that night, Welch said. I understand why President Biden wants to run. He saved us from Donald Trump once and wants to do it again.
But he needs to reassess whether he is the best candidate to do so. In my view, he is not, he continued. For the good of the country, Im calling on President Biden to withdraw from the race.

Pelosi Warns 'Time is Running Short' While Punting on Biden Dropping Out: 'I Want Him to Do Whatever He Decides to Do"
Source: Mediaite
After praising President Joe Bidens spectacular performance at the NATO summit on Tuesday, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was curiously noncommittal about the presidents staying in the 2024 race. Her warning that time is running short seemed to suggest that, in her eyes, Biden has not yet decided to stay in the race, despite his repeated assistance that he has.
While appearing on MSNBCs Morning Joe on Wednesday to discuss her op-ed in The Washington Post, Pelosi was asked by co-host Jonathan Lemire if she still supported Bidens reelection as the sentiment among Democrats was splintering:
Lemire: So, Madam Speaker, you just went through the presidents record, but let me ask you about the current moment. Does he have your support to be the head of the Democrats?
Pelosi: Its up to the president to decide if he is going to run. Were all encouraging him to make that decision because time is running short. I think overwhelming support of the caucus its not for me to say, Im not the head of the caucus anymore but, hes beloved, he is respected, and people want him to make that decision.

Democratic US Senator Michael Bennet says Biden cannot win against Trump
Source: Yahoo! News
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic U.S. Senator Michael Bennet from Colorado told CNN on Tuesday he thinks Democratic U.S. President Joe Biden cannot win against former Republican President Donald Trump in the November 2024 elections.
"Donald Trump is on track I think to win this election, and maybe win it by a landslide and take with it the Senate and the House," Bennet said in an interview on CNN.
Bennet, however, did not call on Biden to step aside as presidential candidate.
"We should be having a discussion about that," Bennet said when asked if Biden should step aside as candidate. "This is something for the president to consider."

Democratic Leader Tells Joe Biden Party Needs More 'Energetic Candidate'
Source: Newsweek
A member of the Democratic leadership has said the party needs a more "energetic candidate" than President Joe Biden to take on Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
In a statement, Senator Patty Murray, a six-term veteran of the Senate who serves as the upper chamber's president pro tempore and has been part of the party's leadership since 2001, said the incumbent president "must do more" to win November's vote.
Biden has faced growing calls to leave the 2024 race following a presidential debate on June 27, in which he gave a series of incoherent and confusing responses and appeared to trail off at times without finishing sentences. A Biden aide previously told Newsweek that the president had a cold. He also said he had been tired from international travel and had no plans to drop out of the race.
"More than a week since the debate, and after talking with my constituents, I believe President Biden must do more to demonstrate he can campaign strong enough to beat Donald Trump," Murray said on Monday.

Now that Biden has undoubtably stated that he's not leaving the race, this doesn't help.
Schiff says Biden has to 'win overwhelmingly' or pass the torch, adds VP Harris could win against Trump
Source: NBC News
Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., on Sunday said Vice President Kamala Harris could overwhelmingly win against former President Donald Trump but that President Joe Biden must decide whether he will remain in the race as the Democratic Partys nominee amid backlash over his disastrous debate performance.
Asked about polling that showed Harris outperforming Trump if she replaced Biden, Schiff said on NBC News Meet the Press that he thought she would be a phenomenal president.
Asked if Biden could win the election, Schiff said, Either he has to win overwhelmingly or he has to pass the torch to someone who can. Pressed again by Welker on whether Harris could win against Trump, Schiff said he thought she very well could win overwhelmingly.
Before we get into a decision about who else it should be, the president needs to make a decision whether its him, he said.

Biden tells Democratic governors he needs more sleep and plans to stop scheduling events after 8 p.m.
Source: CNN
CNN
President Joe Biden told Democratic governors during a meeting at the White House on Wednesday that part of his plan going forward is to stop scheduling events after 8 p.m. so that he can get more sleep, according to three sources briefed on his comments.
The remarks, first reported by The New York Times, came as the 81-year-old Biden sought to reassure a group of more than 20 state leaders about his ability to defeat former President Donald Trump in November and govern effectively for another four years.
Bidens comment left several of the governors in the room frustrated, sources told CNN, and is one of the reasons that some of the participants have been rankled by the statement of loyalty and enthusiasm from them distributed by the Biden campaign on Thursday.
The White House did not immediately comment about what the president said. A Biden campaign aide argued that, as well as doing debate prep in the week after his two trips to Europe, Biden was engaged in hours of official work in addition to the hours of campaign work.

White House issues statement opposing gender-affirming surgery for minors
Source: The 19th
The Biden administration issued a statement on Tuesday afternoon opposing gender-affirming surgery for transgender minors, a position at odds with its previously broad support for gender-affirming care and one taken by a presidential administration that has closely aligned itself with LGBTQ+ advocates.
These are deeply personal decisions and we believe these surgeries should be limited to adults, a White House spokesperson said in an emailed statement. We continue to support gender-affirming care for minors like mental health care and respect the role of parents, families, and doctors in these decisions.
Notably, the Biden administration has taken its support for gender-affirming care for trans youth all the way to the Supreme Court. The court has agreed to take up the question of whether gender-affirming care bans for trans youth are unconstitutional, in response to the Biden administration petitioning on behalf of trans youth and their families. The administrations stance against laws that ban gender-affirming care for trans youth which includes bans on surgeries appears to remain the same.
As President Biden has repeatedly said, Its wrong that extreme officials are pushing hateful bills targeting transgender children, terrifying families, and criminalizing doctors. These are our kids. These are our neighbors. Its cruel and its callous, the spokesperson said, quoting a statement that Biden made last summer in response to rising anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.
