Red beans and rice

Who here enjoys it? It's a famous Louisiana dish, but this Yankee loves it! I made it last night with andouille and smoked sausage, and even a small piece of pepperoni. Pork hocks were added as well. It came out nice, but put a little too much Louisiana Hot Sauce and it wasn't quite thick enough either.

Anyway, here's a pic (not mine). Eating leftovers in a little while!

Questions about Trump bringing the military to protests

He has threatened to do it. Can he? Or does he need Congressional approval? Can it be done without declaring Martial Law?

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio defends police after video shows NYPD SUV driving into protesters

Source: NBC News

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio defended the New York City Police Department after a pair of the force's SUVs drove into a crowd during Saturday's protest against George Floyd's death.

De Blasio reacted after videos were posted to social media, which showed protestors moving a yellow barrier in front a police vehicle in Brooklyn. Protestors threw traffic cones and other items at the SUV as a second vehicle arrived and slowly drove through the crowd forming around it.

The first vehicle then drove into the barricade at a higher speed, sending people sprawling. Multiple city officials told NBC News there were no injuries as a result of the incident.

"It is inappropriate for protestors to surround a police vehicle and threaten police officers," he said. "That's wrong on its face and that hasn't happened in the history of protests in this city."

Trump up by 3

In Utah!!! This is cause for celebration if it's that close in bright Red Utah! If it were another Republican, they would be up by 30. Perhaps attacking mega-popular Romney (in Utah) wasn't such a good idea.

Gov. Newsom: Churches Can Reopen for Services with 100-Person Limit

Source: Times of San Diego

Gov. Gavin Newsom issued guidance Monday to churches and other houses of worship in California on how they can safely reopen amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the guidelines, places of worship must limit attendance to 25% of building capacity or 100 attendees, whichever is lower. This limitation will be in effect for the first 21 days of a county public health department’s approval of religious services within their jurisdictions, after which the California Department of Public Health will review the limits.

They must also arrange for social distancing of at least 6 feet between people, establish and implement a COVID-19 prevention plan for every location, train staff on the plan, and regularly evaluate workplaces for compliance.

Among the other guidelines:

Love you, Governor, but disagree with you on this.

Shoppers at Staten Island grocery store scream at woman for not wearing mask

Source: CBS News

Video showing a group of furious shoppers berating a woman who wasn't wearing a face covering at a Staten Island ShopRite went viral over Memorial Day weekend. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, New Yorkers are required to wear masks or face coverings when out in public and unable to follow social distancing guidelines.

The footage shows customers yelling at the woman and demanding she leave the ShopRite because she isn't wearing a mask. The video, which was originally shared on Facebook, gained popularity on social media after a Twitter user reposted it Sunday night. (Warning: The following video contains language that may be offensive to some.)

A ShopRite spokesperson told CBS News in a statement Monday that the incident happened two weeks ago and the store management reported it to authorities. ShopRite said customers who notice others that aren't wearing face coverings should notify customer service and not take the matter into their own hands.

"Preventing the spread of COVID-19 is a shared responsibility. At ShopRite, we continue to adhere to our sanitation and social distancing protocols to ensure our stores remain a safe place for associates and customers to work and shop," the company said in a statement. "We are all in this together and we ask for everyone to be patient and understanding during this difficult time."

Poll shows Tuberville leading Sessions by over 23 points in Alabama Senate race

A poll conducted May 7-10 by the firm Cygnal shows Tommy Tuberville leading Jeff Sessions in the Republican runoff in Alabama’s U.S. Senate race by more than 20 percentage points.

The survey of 607 likely Republican voters showed 55.1% probably or definitely favoring Tuberville, to 31.8% probably or definitely favoring Sessions.

Breaking that down further, 36.5% definitely favored Tuberville, and 19.4% definitely favored Sessions.

Cygnal CEO Brent Buchanan said the polling firm paid for the survey and is not involved with either candidate or any outside group in the race.

5 new polls out today, but I'll only mention 4 of them

I don't do Rasmussen, they are inaccurate, right-wing, and they have been fluctuating like crazy the last few months. So on to the rest:

CNN: Trump approval at 46%. WTF? CNN I completely trust, but at the same time there's no way he can be that high. Too many landlines is what I suspect.

Emerson California poll: Biden 59, Trump 29. 30 point lead for Biden. I expect Biden to win by 35 points, since 12% are undecided.

Emerson Texas poll: Trump 47, Biden 41. I expected it to be closer than a 6 point spread. 12% are still undecided, but Biden would need the vast majority of that 12% to win, unless Trump's 47% changes their mind.

Emerson Ohio poll: Trump 46, Biden 43. While it's only a 3 point spread with 11% undecided, I hate this. Ohio used to be a reliable swing state, and now it clearly leans right. Seems like the conservatives from Virginia moved there, as that state now leans left.

Anyway, here's a link to all of the polls from today (Tuesday May 12th).

Idaho governor appeals to Supreme Court to stop trans inmate's surgery

Source: NBC News

A legal battle between the state of Idaho and a transgender inmate seeking to undergo gender- confirmation surgery may be headed to the nation’s highest court.

Gov. Brad Little announced Thursday that Idaho has appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a lower court’s ruling requiring the state to pay for inmate Adree Edmo’s surgery. To deny Edmo sex reassignment surgery, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled last year, would constitute a violation of the Eighth Amendment, which protects against “cruel and unusual punishment.”

“The Ninth Circuit’s decision goes against the text and original meaning of the Eighth Amendment and contradicts more than four decades of Supreme Court precedent,” Little said in a statement Thursday. “The taxpayers of Idaho should not have to pay for a procedure that is not medically necessary.”

Edmo’s lawyers, however, have repeatedly asserted that the surgery is a medical necessity, a view upheld by the courts. In the eight years since her conviction, she has attempted to self-castrate twice due to her gender dysphoria, which she was first diagnosed with in prison, according to court documents. Gender dysphoria, according to the American Psychiatric Association, “involves a conflict between a person's physical or assigned gender and the gender with which he/she/they identify.”
