Trump fans howl in rage after Ivanka defends Malia Obama: Shes fair game

Ivanka Trump defended Malia Obama after conservative websites circulated photos of the former president’s adult daughter blowing smoke rings — and the current president’s fans howled in rage.

The 19-year-old Obama is now a student at Harvard University, and photos of her doing young adult things like attending concerts, kissing young men and smoking have been published by tabloids and right-wing sites.

“Malia Obama should be allowed the same privacy as her school aged peers,” Trump tweeted Friday afternoon. “She is a young adult and private citizen, and should be OFF limits.”

How Obama and Trump spent Thanksgiving as President says it all

When you begin to dig a little deeper though, you discover that there is something much less amusing going on.

For a holiday that is supposed to spread thanks and gratitude, Trump has spent the majority of it congratulating himself and his entourage at his Mar-a-lago complex in Florida.

According to Verified Politics, the President will spend the weekend playing golf and dining with the elite members of Florida's high society, a not uncommon trend for Trump.
-----------------------------------
As with nearly every aspect of life; be it vacations, Halloween or meeting victims of disasters, Trump and Barack Obama have a very different approach to things.

Rather than playing golf or sounding off on his achievements, Mr Obama, his wife Michelle and their daughters often spent their Thanksgiving serving food to those in need.

What the hell happened to the stiff upper lip?!?!

The scenes @ Oxford Circus today?....... good grief. An unsubstantiated something from nowhere starts a panic rippling through the heart of the west end, with people fleeing like frightened rabbits. The Soho bomber never managed to invoke this level of panic. The IRA wished they could have made Londoners react like this. Hitler could not manage it, and yet we see the lock down of the heart of the capital over nothing. No suspects, no shots fired, no casualties and yet there was a human stampede. I get that people are more aware at the moment after London Bridge and Westminster, but it seems to me when we are under attack our stiff upper lip is proudly on display, this afternoon, not so much...no attack and no stiff upper lip. Does anyone else think it a tad embarrassing?

As a caveat I will say I was raised in Belfast in the troubles so I am hardier than most when it comes to 'terror' scares. Been there, done that.....again.....and again....and again.....Also been there and done that for actual terror, of course.

Social media and the silencing effect: why misogyny online is a human rights issue

South African court doubles Oscar Pistorius's prison sentence

Source: The Guardian

A South African appeal court has more than doubled the former Paralympian Oscar Pistorius’s prison sentence for murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

The supreme court of appeal (SCA) increased Pistorius’s sentence from six years in prison to 13 years and five months.

Pistorius killed Steenkamp by firing four bullets from a handgun through a closed toilet door in his luxury home in Pretoria on Valentine’s Day 2013. He claimed he mistook her for a burglar.

Steenkamp’s family welcomed the increased sentence and said it showed that justice could prevail in South Africa. “This is an emotional thing for them. They just feel that their trust in the justice system has been confirmed this morning,” Tania Koen, a spokeswoman for the Steenkamp family, said.

Built 1132. Sacked by Henry. Still standing. Splendid

Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire was founded in 1132 and sacked by Henry the Eighth. It is a world heritage site and so very splendid to visit.

The US voted against UN resolution condemning Nazism

The United States is one of three nations that voted against a U.N. resolution condemning Nazism late last week.

The resolution called to combat the “glorification of Nazism, Neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fueling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.”
It was approved by the U.N. Human Rights Committee on Friday, with 131 countries voting in favor, 48 counties abstaining from voting and three countries voting against the condemnation: the U.S., Ukraine and Palau.

The U.S opposed the resolution, apparently, because it wasn’t expansive enough and could lead to limitations of freedom of expression.

"We condemn without reservation all forms of religious and ethnic intolerance or hatred at home and around the world," Deputy U.S. Representative to the Economic and Social Council Stefanie Amadeo told CBS News, explaining the U.S. vote. "However, due to this resolution's overly narrow scope and politicized nature, and because it calls for unacceptable limits on the fundamental freedom of expression, the United States cannot support it.”

Woman who stole 'Make America Great Again' cap from fellow student could be jailed for up to a year

A university student who allegedly stole a cap bearing the message "Make America great again" from a Donald Trump supporter faces up to a year in prison.

Riverside Country District Attorney's Office has filed a charge of theft against University of California student Edith Macias, after she was allegedly filmed brandishing the red hat and condemning racism.

Ms Macias said the message on the hat represented genocide.
