The president’s eldest son lashed out at former Vice Presiden Joe Biden on Saturday.

“President Trump’s eldest son on Saturday posted a social media message suggesting Joseph R. Biden Jr. was a pedophile, an incendiary and baseless charge that illustrates the tactics the president is turning to as he attempts to erase Mr. Biden’s early advantage in key state polls,” The New York Times reported Saturday.

“Donald Trump Jr.’s inflammatory and baseless claim, which he shared with his 2.8 million Instagram followers, comes as his father and the re-election campaign have sought to weaken Mr. Biden with an onslaught of allegations and insinuations rarely seen in modern elections,” the newspaper reported.

During his Inauguration Address, President Trump painted a grim dystopian vision of a then prosperous America, which at the time had a steady and successful economy with stability at home and respect abroad. Trump's vision of "American Carnage" at his Inauguration was not an accurate picture of the America that existed. Bur rather, it foreshadowed the America that would exist, and that we have come to know and struggle to live with each day, under the Trump administration.

Under the cover of coronavirus, all kinds of wickedness are happening. Where you and I see a global health crisis, the world’s leading authoritarians, fearmongers and populist strongmen have spotted an opportunity – and they are seizing it.

... But there are others – and they tend to be in power – who see this opening very differently. For them, the virus suddenly makes possible action that in normal times would exact a heavy cost. Now they can strike while the world looks the other way.

If deaths from this virus were disproportionately occurring among younger, otherwise healthy, middle-to-upper-middle-class, and white Americans, would you still be as cavalier about opening everything back up and taking the risks associated with doing so?
If you answered no, aren’t you admitting you think the lives of those who are currently disproportionately affected — working-class, older, less healthy, and people of color — are of less value than the lives of younger, healthier, and more affluent white people?
And if you answered yes to question 8 — if you are saying you would still support opening everything back up, even if the dying was mostly being done by white, healthy, younger and more affluent folks — I have a bonus question for you…
Why are you lying?

The Administration is obsessed with magic bullets—vaccines, new medicines, or a hope that the virus will simply disappear. But only a steadfast reliance on basic public health principles, like test, trace, and isolate, will see the emergency brought to an end, and this requires an effective national public health agency. The CDC needs a director who can provide leadership without the threat of being silenced and who has the technical capacity to lead today's complicated effort.
The Trump administration's further erosion of the CDC will harm global cooperation in science and public health, as it is trying to do by defunding WHO. A strong CDC is needed to respond to public health threats, both domestic and international, and to help prevent the next inevitable pandemic. Americans must put a president in the White House come January, 2021, who will understand that public health should not be guided by partisan politics.
