Chinese brutally taunt Trump over his failing trade war: He has 'not made America great again'

“On Sunday, a senior Chinese official made a series of statements outlining the Chinese government’s terms for negotiation and pushed back on the United States’ use of pressure to force concessions,” the report begins before stating that Vice Commerce Minister Wang Shouwen, issued a statement saying, “During the consultations, China has overcome many difficulties and put forward pragmatic solutions. However, the U.S. has backtracked, and when you give them an inch, they want a yard.”

The report goes on to state that a white paper submitted along with Wang’s comments took a pointed dig at President Donald Trump by turning his favorite phrase back on him.

The trade war has not “made America great again,” and has instead ravaged U.S. farmers and manufacturers alike the official Chinese government document claims.

Trump condemned for 'unacceptable interference' after praising Boris Johnson's bid to be PM

Source: The Independent

Senior politicians from all of the main parties have warned Donald Trump against “distasteful interference” in British politics during an already controversial state visit this week, with the Tory leadership race and future Brexit policy hanging in the balance.

Mr Trump was accused by party leaders and MPs past and present of breaking a longstanding convention by praising Boris Johnson, claiming he would make an “excellent” prime minister, ahead of a three-day trip to the UK which begins on Monday.

Speaking to The Independent, Sir Malcolm Rifkind, a Tory former foreign secretary, said the comments by the “narcissistic and egocentric” Mr Trump were “unprecedented for a president of the United States”.

Readings from the Misogynist Dictionary

https://twitter.com/AOC/status/1134944892990447617

“Nasty” (adj.):
1. A woman who doesn’t bow under your thumb; or
2. A woman who‘s not attracted to you.

Ex: When a misogynist encounters a “nasty” woman, he‘ll almost surely try to denigrate her appearance, intelligence, or character.

I did not know that.... heh. Talking about a member of the royal family like that? Outrageous.

The risk of failing to defend our values from the rise of the far right - emboldening fascists....

It’s un-British to roll out the red carpet for Donald Trump

It’s too late to stop the red-carpet treatment, but it’s not too late for the prime minister to do the right thing. Theresa May should issue a powerful rejection – not of the US as a country or the office of the presidency, but of Trump and the far-right agenda he embodies. She should say that the citizens of the UK and the US agree on many things, but that Trump’s views are incompatible with British values.

All of this...
Of course May will not call him out, cause trade deal

Why Trump Can't Stand Anything That Reminds Him Of John McCain

It was not just what McCain did but what he stood for that continues to make Trump so uncomfortable, even in the presence of his memory. Consider this McCain reflection on the warrior’s life I heard him give: “Not the valor with which it is fought nor the nobility of the cause it serves, can glorify war. Whatever gains are secured, it is loss the veteran remembers most keenly. Only a fool or a fraud sentimentalizes the merciless reality of war.” Then he added: “Something better can endure, and endure until our last moment on earth. And that is the honor we earn and the love we give if at a moment in our lives we sacrifice for something greater than self-interest.”

These values and words are heresy to the New York real estate mogul. Forced to confront his own inadequacies and his own selfishness, Donald Trump cannot stand to have people compare him to John McCain, alive or dead.

Heh. The fact that Trump has effectively endorsed Boris means a kiss of death @ the general. The old racists in the shires will think it marvellous but the centre left and centre right population that he needs to win over will not touch that toxic with a barge pole.... He cannot come back from what he has become and the Trump endorsement reinforces how noxious his brand has become.

Good article in the new statesmen on this:

Donald Trump’s endorsement underlines that there is no way back for Boris Johnson

The Trump endorsement will “cut through”, and it speaks to the doubts that many voters have about him: that he is economical with the truth, aligned with people they greatly dislike, and that he would be incapable of performing the job of Prime Minister. It is difficult for him to pivot away from Trump without confirming at least one of the three.

Whether he wants to be or not, Johnson has gone from being the candidate who can reach into every part of England and Wales to one that can speak only to half of it. It is a reminder that the choice that the Conservatives are making if they pick Boris Johnson is not to put the election winner of 2012 at their head, but to refight the 2017 election with a better campaigner and a more divisive Brexit offer, in the hope that they will get a more favourable result.
