Border Patrol agents in Clint, Texas, (the detention center where kids are reportedly sick, unclean, and caring for one another) are turning down donations of diapers and toys, as reported by Alex Samuels at the Texas Tribune. That’s right: The facility which reportedly isn’t proving enough food, water, or sanitary conditions for the children trapped there, away from their parents, also isn’t accepting donations of goods. Sick? Absolutely.

As reported by the Tribune, Austin Savage and a few of his friends went to the facility named in The New York Times article detailing these horrible conditions. They brought diapers, wipes, toys, and soap. As their story continues, however, Border Patrol agents ignored them—and their $340 worth of donations.

“A good friend of mine is an immigration attorney, and he warned us that we were going to get rejected,” Savage told the Tribune. “We were aware of that, but it’s just the idea of doing something as opposed to passively allowing this to occur.”

Secret Service agents then took her into custody in handcuffs, but Eric decided not to press charges and she was released.

The trust divide between liberal (self-identifying as left-wing) and conservative (self-identifying as right-wing) Americans has grown sharply since 2016. Donald Trump’s hostile campaign against the news media built on a small trust gap between liberal and conservative Americans that already existed in 2015. Back then, 35 per cent of Americans who self-identify as left-wing said that they trust most news most of the time, compared to 25 per cent of those on the right.

But since then, trust among those on the left has risen 18 points, while trust in news among right-wing Americans has decreased from the already low point of 25 per cent to just 9 per cent.

This means that if liberal America was a separate country, it would have one of the highest trust scores in the world. Among the 38 countries included in the same survey, it would rank alongside the Netherlands – a country with high trust in politics and other institutions. On the other hand, if conservative America were a separate country, it would have by far the least widespread trust – even lower than South Korea or Greece, two countries with traditional scepticism towards media institutions.

When it comes to trust in the news media, the US stands alone in its level of political polarisation.

“I don’t think the special counsel’s office would characterize it as a friendly subpoena,” Schiff admitted. “He did not want to testify. He made that very clear. Nonetheless, they will respect the subpoena. He will appear. He’ll be testifying before our committee in open session. Each of our members will have an opportunity to ask questions of the special counsel. And the American people get a chance to hear directly from him and have their questions answered. So I think it’s a good result.”

Maddow went on to ask if the committee would be willing to call additional investigators and if those requests would be voluntary.

“I don’t think either he or he staff are eager to come before the Congress,” Schiff said. “I think they are doing so because they’re going to honor the subpoena that we’ve issued. In terms of whether there is a separately required subpoena, I can’t comment on that in terms of his staff, but, you know, clearly this is something I think from his perspective as a prosecutor, he’s reluctant to come, as a prosecutor ordinarily would be.”

Monifah Brown and her friends thought they'd found the perfect place to stay during their Miami Beach vacation. The condo unit was right on Ocean Drive, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the beach. Brown, a 24-year-old from London, was thrilled to score a reservation there on Booking.com.

But things took a bizarre and virulently racist turn after Brown, who is black, took too long to respond to a message the condo's owner, Giulia Ozyesilpinar, sent her on WhatsApp. In screenshots and recordings Brown shared with New Times, Ozyesilpinar repeatedly calls Brown a monkey and a "nigger." Ozyesilpinar also sent voice recordings saying, "You're a nigger" and making monkey noises before asking, "You want banana?" She even posted a video on YouTube of Brown's ID next to a photo of a monkey.
