On Thursday, the Trump administration said that it would allow new offshore oil and gas drilling in nearly all U.S. States coastal waters. Trump is lifting a ban on such drilling imposed by former President Barack Obama. Even the Republican governor of Florida vowed to protect his state’s coast from drilling after the Trump administration announced its plans.

Well, documentary filmmaker Michael Moore responded to Trump’s move in the best way possible.

“Our fracking off the coast of Mar-a-Lago begins right after Labor Day,” Moore tweeted. “I’ve already got the rig — a beautiful Halliburton G-0008 fracking system with a monster Caterpillar engine!”

So much so, he's apparently threatening to withhold a vital post-Brexit trade deal with the UK if he doesn't receive an invitation to the royal nuptials.

That's according to Michael Wolff, author of the explosive new "Fire & Fury: Inside the White House" book, which digs into the Trump administration.

Wolff made the suggestion to the Mail on Sunday in an interview saying that Trump "doesn't like being snubbed and wants to be the centre of attention all the time."

He said Trump would only "value the Brits" if the UK gives him what he wants.

Trump has a standing state invitation to the UK, and is expected to visit the country at some point.

But Wolff said Trump was primarily interested in turning the visit into a reality TV spectacle — and that he saw the Queen as a major rival.

"He sees the Queen in reality TV show terms. That’s the Trump modus operandi. He will try to Trumpalise the Queen and Buckingham Palace."

It isn't clear that Prince Harry will oblige, even for a crucial trade deal. He is publicly on much friendlier terms with Trump's predecessor, Barack Obama, joking around with him at the Invictus Games in September and even interviewing him for the BBC.

Somehow the hate group known as Liberty Counsel has managed to convince the Internal Revenue Service that it is a church or church support organization. The result of this is that Liberty Counsel is no longer required to file an annual report with the IRS which means that the organization will operate in secrecy. If that is not bad enough, Congress has passed a measure that makes auditing churches nearly impossible.

President Donald Trump says he's done campaigning for insurgents challenging incumbent Republican members of Congress.

Trump told reporters after meeting GOP House and Senate leaders at Camp David on Saturday that he's planning a robust schedule of campaigning for the 2018 midterm elections and that includes involvement in the Republican primaries. He'll campaign for incumbents, he said, and "anybody else that has my kind of thinking."

But after a stinging loss in Alabama, Trump said he's done supporting challengers, declaring: "I don't see that happening." Trump had supported Roy Moore after he won the GOP primary. Moore's defeat in the subsequent special election handed Democrats another seat in the Senate.

It’s ugly and on the rise; and it’s hard to see how it can end well. The global rise of conservative nationalism with the aim of creating “national communities” – directed by an unchallengeable leader to defend special national values, controlling borders against the virus of immigrants and “foreign” influence – is the menace of our times.

It is the recipe for domestic repression, crony capitalism, massive corruption, implosion of the rule of law, the rise of racism and international conflict. The values that underpinned the postwar liberal order that conferred peace, tolerance and prosperity are being torched before our eyes. It is time to take a stand.

All are spawn of the same devil – immigration and a working population that feels jobs and living standards under threat. All over Europe there are conservative nationalist parties beating the same drum – from Germany’s Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) to Denmark’s People’s party. Europe is reacquainting itself with its darkest demons.

President Donald Trump was up early Saturday morning, indulging in a Twitter frenzy and insisting that he is “really really smart,” and a “very stable genius.”

In a series of three tweets, among others he made Saturday morning, Trump wrote: “Actually, throughout my life, my two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart. Crooked Hillary Clinton also played these cards very hard and, as everyone knows, went down in flames. I went from VERY successful businessman, to top T.V. Star”

As of the close of the first week of the new year, Donald Trump’s average approval rating, as measured by FiveThirtyEight, stands at 38.2 percent–easily the lowest of any newly-elected president at this early stage of his presidency.

One of Trump’s most ardent religious right supporters has a theory about the 39 percent of white evangelicals who don’t warmly support Trump–they’re forgetting the truth of the Bible.

Jeffress mused that there was indeed a “divide” among evangelicals–one that has existed for some time, but has only now been “exposed” by Trump.

“It’s been a growing divide, Janet, between evangelicals who take the Bible seriously and those who don’t. I call them the ‘evangelical elite’—the ‘Christianity of the day’ crowd. And here’s where it comes down to—think about this. President Trump is the most pro-life, pro-religious liberty, pro-Israel president in history. So why do we have this resistance among the evangelical elite while the mass of evangelicals in the pews support him? And what it comes down to is the evangelical elite really don’t embrace these values.”

Jeffress went on to slam the “evangelical elite” for being more concerned about protecting Dreamers than ending abortion, and claimed they were on the wrong side of the Palestinian debate for being more concerned about the plight of Palestinians when the Jews have a right to the land “God gave them.” He also mused that this same elite wants to make Christian bakers make cakes for LGBT weddings.

The Trump administration, inviting a political backlash from coastal state leaders, on Thursday proposed to open for exploration the largest expanse of the nation's offshore oil and natural gas reserves ever offered to global energy companies, including waters off the coast of California.

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke said the draft five-year leasing plan would commit 90 percent of the nation's offshore reserves to leasing, including areas off all three regions of the California coast that have been off limits to oil and gas exploration since the Reagan administration.

The draft plan, now subject to review and debate, would allow the first new federal lease sales off the California coast since 1984. It sparked immediate fury from Democratic leaders in the state.

"The American people deserve smart, strong action to keep our communities healthy, clean and safe. Yet the Trump administration is racing forward with its increasingly brazen attempts to loot our environment and our planet," House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said in a statement. "Americans from coast to coast will make their voices heard to oppose this blatant corporate giveaway."
