So resisting arrest is all they have got?

"If anybody has any doubts about that police officer, they should question the officer on what they're doing and if there are any doubts they should ask to speak to the control room on that officer's radio or call 999... '' The Policing Minister ladies and gentlemen... call 999 to report your own arrest - just in case...

Sarah Everard case: people stopped by lone officer could ‘wave down a bus’, says Met
The force encouraged members of the public to challenge lone plainclothes police officers if they are ever approached, asking where the officer’s colleagues are, where they have come from, why they are there and exactly why they are stopping or talking to them.

It also suggests verifying the police officer’s identity by asking to hear their radio operator or asking to speak to the radio operator themselves.

If a person still does not feel safe, the force said they should consider “shouting out to a passerby, running into a house, knocking on a door, waving a bus down or, if you are in the position to do so, calling 999.

They knew the date that Couzens was going to be sentenced. They knew that as part of the sentencing hearing we would hear how he used his status as a police officer to kidnap rape and murder Sarah Everard and this is all they have got??? Flag down a bloody bus? Seriously? That is the plan to stop this happening again... you could not make it up. Resist arrest everyone, I am sure that will work out well for you!

Republicans warned their self-destructive COVID behavior is 'killing off their voter base'

Leonhardt explains, "A Pew Research Center poll last month found that 86% of Democratic voters had received at least one shot, compared with 60% of Republican voters. The political divide over vaccinations is so large that almost every reliably blue state now has a higher vaccination rate than almost every reliably red state."

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 75% of U.S.-based adults have been at least partially vaccinated for COVID-19. But vaccination rates can vary considerably from one state to another. The Mayo Clinic reports that rates for at least partial vaccination range from 77% in Vermont to 49% in Mississippi, 46% in Idaho and 52% in Alabama. Vermont is a deep blue state with a moderate Republican governor, while Mississippi, Idaho and Alabama are deep red states that former President Donald Trump won by a landslide in 2020.
---
Leonhardt notes that the Delta variant has been especially deadly in Republican areas.

"Since Delta began circulating widely in the U.S.," according to Leonhardt, "COVID has exacted a horrific death toll on red America: In counties where Donald Trump received at least 70 percent of the vote, the virus has killed about 47 out of every 100,000 people since the end of June, according to Charles Gaba, a health care analyst. In counties where Trump won less than 32 percent of the vote, the number is about 10 out of 100,000."

United Airlines to dismiss 593 workers who refused vaccines

United Airlines will dismiss nearly 600 employees who refused to comply with a requirement to be vaccinated for Covid-19, company officials said Tuesday.

Besides the 593 workers who refused to get vaccinated, another 2,000 employees have also requested a medical or religious exemption to the vaccine requirement, company officials said. That is about three percent of United's 67,000-person workforce.

The big US carrier said it was pleased with the overall impact of the policy. In early August, United announced that all US employees would be required to receive the vaccine and upload their vaccine card into the company's system.

Emboldened by their successes the war on women continues unabated

Two headlines from the last 24 hours captures perfectly the perilous position of women in Republican run states now find themselves in.

Firstly, I came across this article in Law & Crime:

Appeals Court Pauses Lawsuit over Georgia Abortion Ban Until Supreme Court Decides Mississippi Case

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit on Monday shut down a lawsuit which challenged a Georgia abortion ban. The reason? The Supreme Court is gearing up to hear arguments about a similar ban in another state.
---
“We STAY this appeal pending a decision of the Supreme Court of the United States in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, No. 19-1392 (2021),” the circuit court said on Monday.

The three-judge panel which summarily paused the litigation included Chief Circuit Judge William Pryor (appointed to the bench by George W. Bush but also appointed to a sentencing commission by Barack Obama), Circuit Judge Barbara Lagoa (appointed by Donald Trump and once a member of his “short list” for a possible Supreme Court nomination), and Senior U.S. District Judge Harvey E. Schlesinger (a George H. W. Bush appointee) sitting by designation.

Some critics immediately noted that the Eleventh Circuit’s decision to stay the Georgia litigation appeared predicated on the possibility that the U.S. Supreme Court could overturn Roe v. Wade.

They can almost taste it. The glee of denying woman reproductive freedom, these fuckers can almost not contain themselves.

And then to the second article which deals some of the fall out from the shit show that is Texaliban:

Planned Parenthood says the Texas abortion ban has turned its call centers into therapy hotlines for people who are 'pregnant against their will'
"Planned Parenthood call centers have become crisis hotlines and health center staff have become crisis counselors," McGill Johnson said in a September 23 joint petition to the Supreme Court.
---
McGill Johnson says Texans haven't stopped asking for abortions in the weeks since SB8 passed. When Texas Planned Parenthood centers are called, counselors direct them to out-of-state care or help them grapple with having "pregnancies against their will," said McGill Johnson.

Potentially fatal mental and physical health concerns are common reasons people seek abortions, Dr. Bhavik Kumar, a doctor at Planned Parenthood Center for Choice in Houston who performs upwards of 30 abortions daily, told the Texas Tribune.

And of course it is the most disenfranchised women who suffer disproportionately from these far right theocratic dictats. The wives and daughters of these patriarchal dinosaurs will always be able to pop on a plane to a blue state and have their reproductive choices respected. Not so for the 12 year old incest victim living in a trailer with her abuser, with no means to travel hundreds of miles out of state. Heh.

We do not have the TIME for Labour to give the Tories a get out of jail free card YET AGAIN.

Could the Labour Conference Performance be any less underwhelming? Honestly? What are they playing at? The KNOCK OUTS have been lined up for them. Petrol Shortages. Rising Food Costs Coupled With Food Shortages. Covid Death Toil. Energy Poverty And Huge Rises In Energy Costs. Benefit Cuts For The Poorest. Army On Streets. Soaring Taxes. Inflation At 4% And Rising.

So, what does Labour do… snipe and take swipes from left to right and right to left, over the top resignations, Trans rights stumbles, and giving a Tory supporting MSM all the narrative needs to point to the divisions in Labour as the headline. In the meantime, all the issues above continue to worsen, and the Tories continue to push us all over the Brexit edge. With an 80-seat majority all ammunition should be focused on them, not on ANYTHING else. The country deserves better. The country needs better.

Just finishing listening to Starmer’s speech and I don’t know what you think but I don’t think it will move the dial one inch. Centre left positions. Tick. Law and Order. Tick. Pandemic response. Tick. Music in schools? While that is important of course, may I suggest kicking the Tories in the balls over and over about the soaring rise in the cost of living may have a tad more 2021 cut through…

Legal expert: The gays are next

"After scoring an initial victory in their mission to eviscerate women's constitutionally protected right to obtain access to an abortion, some in the conservative movement have already explicitly moved on to attacking LGBTQ rights, which suggests they're gunning for all your constitutionally protected rights — at least those not dealing with guns."

The same Jonathan Mitchell who is seeking termination of abortion as legally valid argues in his Mississippi abortion case challenge due for hearing in December that women can have no protected right to abortion because it was never written in the Constitution.

Further, in the same brief, Mitchell suggested he's coming for Lawrence v. Texas, the 2003 decision in which the Supreme Court ruled that laws that criminalize sodomy are unconstitutional, and Obergefell v. Hodges, the 2015 ruling in which the court concluded that the Constitution protects the rights of same-sex couples to marry.

Mitchell describes these outcomes as creating "court-invented rights to homosexual behavior and same-sex marriage." He concluded, "These 'rights,' like the right to abortion from Roe, are judicial concoctions, and there is no other source of law that can be invoked to salvage their existence."

“Those who would renegotiate the boundaries between church and state must therefore answer a difficult question: why would we trade a system that has served us so well for one that has served others so poorly?” Sandra Day O'Connor

BUT... peak 2021 fall out from Trump means that the far right theocratic cray cray on SCOTUS will sit and wait for a law to be introduced in a red state that hugely limits the availability of getting married while gay, and then when it reaches SCOTUS they will decide on a shadow docket that it is all about state rights. If they are allowed to get away with it on Roe V Wade you betchca they are coming after gay marriage next - and then who knows? 3/5 a man anyone?

This has been in the works for a very long time. And here we are.

After 40 years of packing the courts these lot makes Attila look progressive.

Obama: As far as Democrats are concerned, I think that President Biden is handling it exactly right

https://twitter.com/GMA/status/1442820843541774342
“I think anybody who pretends that it's a hardship for billionaires to pay a little bit more in taxes so that a single mom gets childcare support … that's an argument that is unsustainable.” —
@BarackObama on Pres. Biden’s $3.5T Build Back Better infrastructure agenda.

'When you look at the overall package, it's got a headline pricetag of $3.5 trillion. But that's not a single year, this is spread out over a number of years. And most importantly, it's paid for by asking the wealthiest of Americans to pay a few percentage points more in taxes in order to make sure we have an economy that's fair for everybody.'

Taxing the wealthy to balance their rights and responsibilities for a fair and just society. Oh my!

Bless their little fascist hearts

Racists whining that voting for a fascist, white supremacists, ethno-nationalist somehow means that everyone else sees them as the racists they are is peak MAGA. Look at them thinking we are not going to label them as they act. Silly rabbits. Anyway they should own their nasty, be proud of it as they attend white supremacist cult rallies of exclusion and hate, and if they don't want too, tough shit... they must ever be shunned as the fascist democracy stealing supporters that they are.
