Law enforcement enlists mental health experts to help save lives -- 'a paradigm shift in policing

Spivy, a behavioral health clinician, rides with the team for 40 hours a week. They respond to anything from disorderly conduct calls to suicide attempts to overdoses. Spivy fills a role that traditional policing hasn’t always included: an expert on scene who can diagnose individuals who may need mental health support.
It’s a change from previous tactics when people suffering from mental crises were often arrested, a strategy that only exacerbated their issues and resulted in jails filling up.

Spivy provides a calm, professional presence, able to talk people down from a breaking point. It means providing help and saving lives and bringing a peaceful end to a potentially dangerous situation. She referred to one recent call where a man was waving a gun in public. She and her team managed to calm him and he was taken to the local mental health services center. It was a situation, she said, that could have gone a lot differently.

“I was able to evaluate him and determined that it was a mental health issue,” she said. “Whereas any time before, that individual probably would have been arrested and taken to jail.”
SNIP ————

Out of the approximate 270 individuals they’ve encountered since the Savannah team began working in the community, only three were arrested who didn’t have outstanding warrants
, according to the department. All others were directly connected to help

The federal government will allow states to stop charging families for foster care

Why? Just Why? This is just cruel

New guidance from the federal government will make it easier for states to stop a controversial practice that, according to a 2021 NPR investigation, keeps impoverished families in debt when their child is placed into foster care.

When children go into foster care, there's often a surprise for their parents: Many will get a bill from the state or county for "child support," to share the cost of their child's care.
Parents' wages and tax refunds can be garnished
Most collections are made by garnishing the paychecks and tax refunds of mothers and fathers. In 2021, according to federal government statistics, nearly $96 million was collected from these parents and returned to the U.S. Treasury. States keep at least an equal amount. The biggest return to the federal government — $113 million — came in 2020 when state governments garnished the stimulus checks that were intended to help parents struggling during the pandemic.

I'm going to humor Chumpie and go with " they had a right to be there, they were mad

because the election was stolen from them.
OJ Simpson spent 9 years in prison because he was mad things were stolen from him. Nope, can’t just break in, hold people hostage and take things, even if you are confident those items belong to you.

Republicans open community center to draw metro Atlanta's Latino voters

On Wednesday, the Republican National Committee opened a new Hispanic Community Center in a strip mall in Suwanee, a Gwinnett County town that became majority-minority for the first time in 2020, according to data from that year’s U.S. Census.

The new GOP outpost is part of a multi-million-dollar outreach effort to build on the party’s growing appeal among Latinos, and engage with minority voters ahead of this year’s midterm elections.

The opposition, all they talk about is the free stuff they are going to give you … If you’re from Nicaragua, if you’re from Venezuela, you know where that road leads,” said insurance commissioner John King. King became Georgia’s first Hispanic statewide constitutional officer following his appointment to the job in 2019 and is running for election this year.

The Hispanic Community Center in Suwanee becomes the third brick-and-mortar outpost the RNC has opened targeting minority voters in metro Atlanta, with Republicans having previously opened a Black American Community Center in College Park last October, and an Asian Pacific American Community Center last September, also located in Gwinnett County. According to the party, Atlanta is one of just two metro areas nationwide to also have community centers targeting Black, Hispanic, and AAPI voters (the second is Las Vegas).

So about that more white babies plan

Did it ever occur to the folks that want to ban abortion to increase the white population, that there will be many men that don’t want to participate in their breeding factories?

I’ve read several articles that state more men have requested vasectomies since the the SC leak. Google search for the word vasectomy has gone up by 250%.

I am also going to bet that there will finally be a male birth control pill. Leave it to big Pharma to capitalize.

Kansas City area health system stops providing Plan B in Missouri because of abortion ban

Plan B does not cause an abortion!!!

Can you imagine being raped and going to the hospital for care after you have been brutalized and being told that they cannot give you emergency contraceptive??

A leading health system in Kansas City is no longer providing emergency contraception in Missouri after the state banned abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest.

Saint Luke’s Health System confirmed the decision to The Star on Tuesday night after word of the change began circulating among advocates for sexual assault victims.

I find it weird that there is so much focus on whether he lunged at the SS agent

Vs Chump knew there were people with guns. He pointed an armed mob at the Capitol. This is to me is the most damning. Not the ketchup or him lunging at the SS driver. He’s a petulant man child. I expect that kind of behavior from him.
