Renewable Energy Capture and Storage Requires Coal, Oil and Natural Gas

The technology we use to harvest, store and transport this renewable energy are all impossible to engineer, build, deploy and maintain without vast amounts of coal, oil and natural gas.

So, in a very direct way, the production of coal, oil and natural gas is driving almost ALL of this job creation in renewable energy.

Additionally, most of the calories eaten by the people having the added jobs are also there because fossil fuel is so energy dense.

Energy is only as renewable as the technology used to gather it. Solar panels and wind turbines are unsustainable given that they can't be built in the required quantities without fossil fuels.

Your, "NOT," is quite misplaced in my opinion.

But how would you answer the question?

I believe the hypothetical situation I'm asking about could lead to the senseless murder of millions if our worst fears about the President are ever realized.

The idea that a population with hunting rifles could do much damage at all to a government with the arsenal similar to that of the US Federal Government is laughable, yes, which is why this question is so important to consider.

And maybe a tyrannical government can't be, "stopped," but that wouldn't keep me from fighting it anyway.

So if we had to protect millions from the gas chambers (as many feared we would have to), would automatic weapons, high capacity magazines, Teflon bullets and silencers help or hinder that fight?

History is full of examples where Governments hit their populace with a Jackboot so it is hard to exclude it as a possibility.

Technically Speaking...

Technically speaking you are literally a bit of sentient star stuff.

Bits of the universe are actually conscious and aware that they are bits of the universe. So at the end of the day the following is a true statement.

The Universe is self-aware.

Thermodynamics killed Rome

I applaud your comparison of the US Empire to the Roman Empire.

Both were built upon the lives and resources of conquered peoples.

But the reason Rome fell is because it succumbed to the same thermodynamic processes of catabolic collapse that are currently threatening this country.

This empire is going the same direction as the Roman empire for almost exactly the same reasons that have much more to do with ecology and civilizational cycles than any particular political ideology.

Just like the Roman Empire, the US Empire will begin fragmenting and lives will be changed.

I predict that within our lifetime we will see the United States become disunited (states will succeed from the union). Many will throw blame around but really this is what happens to empires after they get too big to be supported by the resource base then let them grow initially.

Democracy and voting could not have saved Rome and it cannot save the United States. What it can do is vote for sane policies that encourage de-growth of the economy in every way imaginable.

But nobody likes those options so anybody that runs promising to shrink the economy will for sure fail to get elected.

Edit: The biggest problem I see is that the problems in the country are being blamed on different groups of people instead of on the actual culprit, our desire to continually grow when growth is unsustainable.
