Former Republican congressman to join staff of January 6 committee

(CNN)Former Rep. Denver Riggleman is joining the staff of the House select committee investigating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, the third Republican that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has added to the panel that GOP leadership has attacked as a partisan endeavor.

Riggleman -- a former Virginia congressman and Air Force intelligence officer who has been an outspoken critic of former President Donald Trump -- will be a senior technical adviser for the committee, according to two sources familiar with the selection.

GOP Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger are the only Republican lawmakers serving on the committee, which held its first hearing late last month. But as a former member, Riggleman brings a high profile, and his national security background will add additional legitimacy to the investigation.

"I have to say, doing this might be one of the biggest things I've ever done in my life," Riggleman said in a video posted to Twitter Friday night touting his intelligence and data analytics experience.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' order on masks in schools faces its first legal challenge over constitutionality

(CNN)Eight Florida attorneys have filed a lawsuit against Gov. Ron DeSantis over his executive order on masks in schools, said Charles Gallagher, an attorney working on the suit.

This is the first legal challenge over the constitutionality of the governor's order on masks, Gallagher said.

The order, issued late last month, directed the state's health and education departments to issue rules preventing the implementation of school mask mandates in an effort to "protect parents' freedom to choose whether their children wear masks."

"They are framing this as a parent choice issue when this is really a public health issue," Gallagher told CNN by phone.

Data scientist who clashed with DeSantis returns to Florida, preparing to run against Matt Gaetz

WASHINGTON — A little over a year after she was fired as the manager of Florida’s coronavirus dashboard, Rebekah Jones is returning to the state to run for Congress against Rep. Matt Gaetz, one of former President Donald Trump’s closest allies in Washington.

Her return could also pose a challenge to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican who has made his handling of the coronavirus pandemic a centerpiece of his political ascent. Jones alleges that she was fired last year for refusing to manipulate statistics to accommodate the governor’s desire to quickly reopen the state during the national lockdown. Since then, she and the DeSantis administration have waged a relentless battle over the state’s narrative about the coronavirus.

The DeSantis version of that narrative — best summed up by the slogan “Don’t Fauci My Florida,” on the merchandise the governor has been selling — has faced intense criticism in recent days. The White House says DeSantis is obstructing the appropriate public health responses to the coronavirus. As hospitals fill up across Florida, the governor has stayed the course, earning plaudits from Fox News and other conservative outlets for battling mask mandates and vaccination requirements.

Does anyone have an update on that RWNJ radio host that is hospitilized with COVID?

Last I heard they were looking to transport him to a hospital that has a heart and lung machine? I forgot his name or I would do a search.

I fucking hate TFG!!!

I cannot stand what he has done to this country.

Mike Lindell trolled by heckler, addressed as "marginally brain-addled corrupt goofball"

MyPillow guy and Trump superfan appeared impervious to torrent of abuse; Twitter users were highly amused

"Love you, man, you're a true patriot," the heckler initially stated while Lindell was doing an online interview with frequent co-host Brannon Howse on his FrankSpeech website.

Lindell quickly responded, "I'm live on TV right now," while attempting to hush the troll.

Then the heckler offered Lindell a plateful of advice, not necessarily sincere in nature:

"Don't let the libtards call you names. Don't let them call you an ethically dubious pillow pusher. Don't let them call you a marginally brain-addled corrupt goofball. You're doing great. Don't let them call you names, is what I'm saying. Be strong. Don't let them push you around or call you names like completely clueless crazy old man who believes everything he sees on the internet. Don't let them call you names. Stay strong, you're doing great, Love you, man."

15th District special election: Mike Carey wins GOP primary, AP declares

Mike Carey will be the Republican nominee for the 15th District special election in November, the Associated Press determined just after 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Early, unofficial results showed Carey, the coal lobbyist endorsed by former President Donald Trump, leading a field of 11 Republicans vying for the spot in Tuesday’s primary election.

Carey will face state Rep. Allison Russo, an Upper Arlington Democrat, in the general election Nov. 2 to replace former U.S. Rep. Steve Stivers.

Carey, a coal lobbyist endorsed by former President Donald Trump, led with about 37% of the 23,000 votes counted, followed by state Sen. Bob Peterson with about 14% and former state Rep. Ron Hood with about 14%.

Missouri governor pardons St. Louis couple who pointed guns at protesters

Washington(CNN)Missouri Republican Gov. Mike Parson on Tuesday announced pardons for Patricia and Mark McCloskey, the St. Louis homeowners who pointed guns at protesters near their home last summer.

The couple, who pleaded guilty in June to misdemeanor charges stemming from the incident, were among the 12 pardons that Parson granted last week, the governor's office said in a statement.

The McCloskeys drew national attention in June 2020 after they were seen on video brandishing guns outside their mansion and pointing them at protesters, who were walking on a private street toward the home of the St. Louis mayor.

In videos posted to social media, Mark McCloskey is seen holding a long rifle and Patricia McCloskey a handgun as demonstrators -- who were protesting then-Mayor Lyda Krewson's decision to publish the names and addresses of people in favor of police reform -- walked past their home.

Five things to watch in two Ohio special election primaries

Here are five things to watch as voters head to the polls:

Trump's endorsement will be put to the test

Trump has already attempted to wield his endorsement as a powerful tool in the 2022 cycle, but the contest in Ohio’s 15th Congressional District will test the strength of his brand at a precarious time.

While Trump has come out strong for Carey, a virtual unknown before winning the former president’s endorsement, several of the approximately dozen other candidates in the GOP primary field are bringing in their own high-profile backers.

Former state Rep. Ron Hood, another conservative, has the support of Sen. Rand Paul’s (R-Ky.) political action committee, and Stivers has backed state Rep. Jeff LaRe (R). State Sen. Bob Peterson (R), meanwhile, has racked up a slew of more local endorsements.
