I was on a Zoom call today (not political) and the movie Pearl Harbor came up, which led to how inaccurate it is, and then to something else and so forth. One of the "so-forths" was the bombing of the two cities and the number of casualties.
Dead: just over 100,000 total
Injured: just under 100,000 total
Total: just under 200,000
That's far less than have died of Covid-19 here in the US, and we're not even at war. Choke on that, GOP -- as if you gave a fucking rat's ass.

Do conservatives have a sense of humor?
Been wondering about this for a while. I don't watch late-night shows, but it seems all the hosts we ever hear about are liberals.
There's a lot of humor here on DU, plus the animal stuff and of course Sunday LOL Cats. The times I checked Conservative Underground, there was no humor at all, unless they were laughing at the liberals.
I know my subject line is very very very generalized, but I'm really curious.
Gohmert, Rubio, Nunes, and their ilk remind me of
kids we had back in grammar and high school who hung out with the bullies.
These kids weren't bullies themselves -- they were more like what is usually referred to as "losers." Not particularly smart or good at anything, no personality to speak of, and certainly not popular. I didn't think about it back then, but I did begin to notice a pattern after a few years. Now looking back at it, it seems they hung out with the bullies for protection and to appear to be cool. I've read about the same pattern occurring in jails and prisons, although I have no clue if that's real or not.
But these guys -- lawmakers in the highest offices in the land -- doing the same? That is fucking galaxy-class disgusting.
Is there a "visual connection" between trumpers today and hippies in the 60s/70s?
I've been pondering this for a while, but the thought never really jelled. Not sure it still has, but here goes anyway.
Back in the late sixties, "counterculture" members (aka hippies) dressed and behaved similarly to show they were... well... counterculture members. Back then they were dedicated liberals, at least in public. Meanwhile, the establishment they objected to consisted of politicians and professionals who dressed and acted (for lack of another word) "normally."
Nowadays, we see so many of donnie's followers -- dedicated conservatives, at least in public -- dressing and acting similarly (and I don't really want to say this, but I've noticed it so many times): heavyset, dressed in worn jeans, shirts, and baseball caps, and the men sporting long beards and hair. And so many of them seem to have large pickups. Meanwhile, the politicians and professionals that they follow dress "normally."
I still can't quite put my finger on this, but I'm starting to find it interesting that there may be some kind of "cultural explanation" for something like this.
Pence leaving town: is it remotely possible
that he plans to do it so he doesn't have to pardon donnie?

If donnie is hanging on until votes are counted, and planning to quit and have Pence pardon him if he does lose, could Pence be vamoosing so he doesn't have to?
Conservative Underground seems to be down since yesterday
CU is a chat room like DU, but for conservatives. They have a forum titled "Best and Worst of DU/Discussionist," and I occasionally peep in there to see what they're saying about us. Mostly derogatory.
Can't get in since yesterday. Wonder if they're down for maintenance or if they got hacked.
One of the first things I think Biden should do
(and I know it's a pipe dream on my part)...
Is schedule time on several networks for about an hour and say he is going to debunk all the lies donnie and his minions told about the Democrats. Debunk, as in show or explain why they were lies and tell viewers that, if they thought about it (a direct challenge to many trumpers), they would realize why it was a lie.
I know it's not his style, but, given what the GOPers have been doing, I think somebody should get up there and call out the lies as lies in no uncertain terms.
How long till Kushner turns on donnie?
Sounds far-fetched, right? But considering how this whole shitshow is playing out, and considering that Jared boy is just another piss-ass grifter, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised.

I don't know how to describe it, but it's like asking a question or asking for a reply.
I see it all the time here in the Bay Area. Drives me nuts.

In my considered opinion -with the emphasis on "opinion" - the vast majority of gun-humping trumpies have never actually read the Second Amendment.
And also in my considered opinion (ditto), the vast majority of those who did read it didn't understand it, probably due to not having any conception of what a militia is, or any clue as to what it was when the Amendment was written.
And to go one more thought on this, it's also my considered opinion (ditto) that the vast majority of those gun humpers would shit their pants if confronted with a real situation involving armed police or the military. It would probably be like "The Keystone Kops Meet the Three Stooges" on their side of the line.
