Saturate Before Using

Jackson Browne

1972

Singer-songwriter Browne's debut album .... at the age of 23. His spare, calm, introspective vocal style accompanied by piano and acoustic guitars, was a critical success and was the beginning of a long and successful career.

I saw him perform live in the mid 70s when I was in college and he sure didn't disappoint! Well, okay, I had a crush on him too.

Includes "Jamaica Say You Will," "Doctor My Eyes," and "Rock Me On The Water".

Astral Weeks

Van Morrison

Many critics say that this blend of Celtic folk, blues, and jazz, is Morrison's best album.

Includes the title cut, "Sweet Thing," "Cyprus Avenue" and "The Way Young Lovers Do."

The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get

Joe Walsh

1973

On an episode of "Live from Daryl's House" Joe Walsh told Daryl that he took up guitar because when you play the clarinet you can't talk to girls and play an instrument at the same time. You gotta love Joe's sense of humor about music, fame, and himself!

Every musician on this album top notch - Joe, Joe Vitale, Kenny Passarelli -- as are the songs, amazing guitars, synth, and arrangements.

"Meadows" was Standard Operating Procedure for blasting out one's dorm room window on a nice day at Kent State in the mid 70s!

Also includes his mega hit "Rocky Mountain Way".

Hey all you teachers out there

Do you think this guy is spot-on with his findings?

"Ted Dintersmith is a successful venture capitalist and father of two who has spent years devoting most of his time, energy and millions of dollars of his personal fortune to learning about — and advocating for — public education and how it can be made better for all children.

In this post, he writes about what he saw and offers advice to Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, who recently said on “60 Minutes” that she had never “intentionally” visited an underperforming school."

Born To Run

Bruce Springsteen

1975

The Boss' breakout album. His third effort yielded a big sound, big songs, lots of keyboards, big drums. And the big, classic, songs to match, with the theme of saying goodbye to a perhaps misspent youth. A classic and one I listen to often! Every single song a masterpiece!

Includes "Thunder Road," "Tenth Avenue Freeze Out," "Born To Run"

but my fave on this whole album is "Backstreets". Just wow.

I was just wondering

Since the Stormy Daniels interview on 60 Minutes is scheduled for this coming Sunday ...

Anyone hear of any viewing parties going on? And what would be the proper food and drink to serve at such an event?

Arc of a Diver

Steve Winwood

1980

Winwood goes more to pop on this album, but you can still hear influences of his old Traffic days on songs such as "Spanish Dancer".

Includes "When You See A Chance", "Arc of a Diver" and the aforementioned "Spanish Dancer".

I, Robot

The Alan Parsons Project

1977

Parsons borrowed not only the title from Isaac Asimov's Robot trilogy, it's also a concept album exploring themes of artificial intelligence.

Still, for all the above, the music is packaged with some hooks, with just as many elements of restlessness, and change in tempo, which encouraged critics to consider this an art album and not a pop album.

Includes the title song "I, Robot" and the hit "I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You."
