Please recommend a good book!

I am having a problem I have never had before. I can't find a book I care about. I suspect this has nothing to do with the books themselves but rather is a side effect of my covid anxiety. I get a little over 1/4 through and realize I don't care about the characters or the plot and I either delete it from the Kindle or return it to Libby. I just downloaded a sample that was on Bookpage's best mystery and suspense list, reviews all indicated "can't put down" qualities. While I read fiction and NF, let's say fiction. Nothing heavy and deep, just engrossing. Compelling. I don't care if it's JD Robb (or any other author with 100 books), as long as it is a great story. Something to get lost in.

Given my inability to care about any book lately, this might not work, but it's terrible to not have a book to read! I am filling all my reading time with Erma Bombeck, and while I love her very much, I prefer her in smaller doses than every day of the week. Any thoughts?

Travel back to 2015

And let's talk to Donnie.

Don't run for president. As of 2019, not sure about now, you owe $421 million to someone, we think maybe Russians at least. The entire world knows about this debt, and it will be fully exposed soon. You will find yourself under such constant scrutiny that it will be difficult to work with the mob bosses you are in cahoots with. The money laundering, which is so easy for you now, will be impossible to continue. Your real estate properties will suffer because of your unpopularity, and ultimately will lose money for you and close down, like so many of your failed endeavors. SDNY will slowly and confidently build a case against you that may end you up in prison.

Your affair with a porn star and your payment of $130k to her to keep quiet is now known to the entire world. She has gone on talk shows to describe your ineptness at sex and your mushroom-sized dick. You are at this point a source of ridicule to everyone.

You think it will work to stack the courts with people you think will support you in your fall from political clout. But when you lose the 2020 election, very few support you. Not even your bestie Moscow Mitch (oh yes, that's what he is called now) falls in line for you. The military will not take orders from you. You are your worst case scenario--you are a loser.

Your former employees at your game show release the information that due to your age and your abuse of not just cocaine but ground-up snorted Adderall, you must wear adult diapers, which you shit into regularly, causing quite an odor in the area.

You are mocked at every turn. If you don't run for president, you can continue your grifting and con jobs under the radar. No one will know about the diapers. You will not be the most despised man on the planet and you will not ultimately be exposed as a loser.

Think about it, Donnie.

(Wouldn't that be fun???)

Your thoughts on dibs

So we only have one bagel left. We went to get more on Monday, but the bagel shop in our very small town decided to be closed on Mondays. So, one poppyseed bagel left. We were reading before bed tonight. I said "I'm going to have that bagel for breakfast tomorrow" and my husband said "Dibs."

I didn't technically dib it. But I did say I was going to have it, which clearly shows intention. Can I please have some DU opinions on the rules of dibs? Does his dib count???
