Some auto insurers are refusing to cover certain Hyundai and Kia models

https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/27/business/progressive-state-farm-hyundai-kia/index.html

Progressive and State Farm, two of America’s largest auto insurers, are refusing to write policies in certain cities for some older Hyundai and Kia models that have been deemed too easy to steal, according to the companies.

Several reports say the companies have stopped offering insurance on these vehicles in cities that include Denver, Colorado and St. Louis, Missouri. The insurance companies did not tell CNN which cities or states were involved.

The Highway Loss Data Institute released insurance claims data last September that confirmed what various social media accounts had been saying: Some 2015 through 2019 Hyundai and Kia models are roughly twice as likely to be stolen as other vehicles of similar age, because many of them lack some of the basic auto theft prevention technology included in most other vehicles in those years, according to the HLDI.

Specifically, these SUVs and cars don’t have electronic immobilizers, which rely on a computer chip in the car and another in the key that communicate to confirm that the key really belongs to that vehicle. Without the right key, an immobilizer should do just that – stop the car from moving.

Chicago independent bookstore owner slams customer who bought $800 of art and cookery books to decorate their home for CHRISTMAS - only to return them after holidays ended

An independent Chicago bookseller vented their frustration after a custppomer returned a purchase of art and cookbooks worth $800

The buyer had bought the books in December to use them as temporary decorations for the holidays and then returned them once they were over

Rebecca George's tweet has been viewed millions of times with many people responded by offering support and suggesting ways to prevent it in the future

'Turns out one of our biggest sales last month was for the person to stage their home for the holidays, and now they want to return them all. Please don't do this to a small business, people.' George tweeted.

The tweet has since gone viral with almost 7 million views.

George also noted how the sale amounted to almost one third of her store's monthly rent.

'Wow, this person came in and bought up all these art books! What a great day,' George said she thought at the time of the bumper sale. 'We needed it right then.'

His descriptions of the severity of his illness have also changed gover time, per The Daily Beast.

----
The first case of COVID-19 in New York was confirmed on March 1, 2020, and Santos claimed in a conservative podcast that he became symptomatic with the virus just over a week later.

"Unfortunately on the 9th of March I became symptomatic with what we all know now very well, COVID-19 a.k.a coronavirus, commonly known as the Chinese flu," he said. "On the 11th I ended up in the hospital. It was really bad, fever, body aches."

Santos said he was taken to a hospital in Queens, New York, by ambulance and spent around five hours there in isolation. He said he then had a high fever and hallucinations for several days, ultimately testing positive on March 14.

The Republican said he tested negative on March 26. "So, I'm free, coronavirus free, so they're calling me a survivor," he said. "I don't know if I really survived anything. It's just flu."

However, later retellings of his experience, both in terms of severity and timeline, appear to be at odds with what he said on the podcast, The Daily Beast reported.
