Border Patrol Arrests MS-13 Member Who Traveled with Caravan

U.S. Border Patrol agents have arrested a member of the infamous Salvadoran MS-13 gang who admitted to authorities that he traveled with a caravan of Central American migrants who were hoping to qualify for asylum in America.

Agents arrested Jose Villalobos-Jobel, 29, shortly after 6 p.m. on Saturday east of the Calexico Port of Entry on the U.S. side of the border, Customs and Border Protection said in a statement Wednesday.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts calls out Trump for his attack on a judge

Published: 11/21/18 01:15 PM EST

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts took a swipe at President Donald Trump, saying there are no “Obama judges or Trump judges” after Trump attacked the judge who ruled against his attempt to restrict asylum-seekers at the border.

“We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges,” Roberts said in a statement. “What we have is an extraordinary group of dedicated judges doing their level best to do equal right to those appearing before them. That independent judiciary is something we should all be thankful for.”

Trump, who has a history of attacking judges, dismissively called Judge Jon Tigar an “Obama judge” on Tuesday and said the 9th Circuit “is something we have to take a look at because it is not fair.”

Fudge endorses Pelosi for speaker, dropping potential challenge

Rep. Marcia Fudge announced she would support Nancy Pelosi for speaker, just days after saying she might challenge the California Democrat.

Anti-Pelosi forces are working hard to deny her the 218 votes needed to become speaker but have yet to find anyone who will challenge her for the gavel.

Fudge said Pelosi had promised her an opportunity to work to protect voting rights and assured her that “the most loyal voting bloc in the Democratic party, Black women, will have a seat at the decision-making table.”

Just a thought on the Matt Whitaker appointment...

The Trump Administration is being sued by the state of Maryland and three democratic senators in separate actions, in an attempt to remove Matt Whitaker as Acting AG. The Trump administration used the Vacancies Reform Act as a justification for Whitaker’s appointment as Jeff Sessions “resigned”.

It appears to me that the question is whether Jeff Sessions’ forced resignation is considered a firing.

One of the many problems that Trump has is that he cannot keep his mouth shut. He has a habit of contradicting his own administration. The administration is sticking to the story that Jeff Sessions resigned.

I think a reporter should ask him “whose idea was it to fire Jeff Sessions?”

I have no doubt that Trump will say “it was my idea.”

Democrats received almost as many midterms votes as Trump in presidential election - results show it

Democratic candidates are forecast to receive more than 60.5 million votes in total for the house once the final ballots have been counted.

If accurate, the figure would be the closest an opposition party has come in a midterm election to matching the president’s backing two years earlier.

Donald Trump received just shy of 63 million votes in 2016, as he lost the popular vote but achieved a comfortable victory under the electoral college system.

To my fellow Florida DUers...

We just voted to restore voting rights to former felons, with some exceptions. I've been hearing many pundits say that this may turn Florida blue. Block that out; ignore it. They assume these people will vote democratic in future elections. That is a dangerous assumption.

We have to fight for their votes. This issue was resolved using a nonpartisan method, a ballot initiative. That's probably why it was able to get enough support from Republican voters for it to pass. We can't take credit for it as it were policy that our side introduced and passed.

We have get them active in the voting process; show them why their vote matters; and show them our issues, such as making it easier for former felons to integrate back into society, prison reform, criminal justice reform, etc. These are things that would help them and people like them that would be in their shoes in the future.

Abrams says Kemp will be next governor of Georgia, effectively conceding race

Published: 11/16/18 05:34 PM EST
Democrat Stacey Abrams announced Friday that Brian Kemp, her Republican opponent in the Georgia gubernatorial race, would be certified as governor.

"I acknowledge that former Secretary of State Brian Kemp will be certified as the victor in the 2018 gubernatorial election," Abrams said at a press conference Friday, effectively conceding that she lost the race.

The announcement comes more than a week after the November midterm elections when Kemp came out as the top vote-getter in the race. But Abrams refused to concede, arguing that there were outstanding votes that needed to be counted. Since then her campaign has filed legal challenges and pushed to have additional absentee and provisional ballots counted.

That move lowered the margin of victory for Kemp but not by enough to trigger a runoff or recount.
