Politics Aside, Quality of Character Matters
Just venting here...
Since Trump got the nomination back in 2016, we’ve heard the rationalization of Trump’s character. It’s always something to the effect of “he’s an asshole but he’s an asshole FOR AMERICA!” I still hear this today.
For me, politics aside, Trump is just a shitty person. Anytime I discuss why I don’t like Trump, before I get to any policy positions, I spend most of the time explaining that Trump is just a terrible person.
Trump is a dick. Trump is an asshole. Trump is a troll. Trump is a baby; a whiny little bitch; a 5 year old in a loose suit (I’m sorry to all the 5 year olds).
As an African-American, I could never get on the bandwagon of a person that enables a racist atmosphere. Although the man himself may not outwardly say anything racist (which is debatable), he enables an atmosphere where white supremacists feel comfortable enough to hold marches and rallies in DC and march in the streets with torches while screaming out their support for him. He couldn’t even give a speech denouncing them without pressure and I FULLY BELIEVE that he never would have done it. He didn’t want to do it. It wasn’t heartfelt. These are his voters. He didn’t want to shed voters. I could never support someone that uses hostility, resentment and a racist atmosphere for their own political gain.
Remember when John McCain took back the microphone from a woman that said she was scared of Obama because he was a Muslim? Do you think Trump would have taken that microphone back and told this woman that things would be okay under a Barack Obama presidency? FUCK NO! Trump would have taken that and ran with it. He basically did with the birtherism bullshit.
A party that supports that is not a party trying to get me. Frankly, they’d be wasting their time regardless. I’ve chosen a side.

In many ways, the president sits atop what sociologist Robert Bellah called our American “civil religion,” and sets the moral tone of the country. Here is just one example of why Joe Biden is a good and honest man and Donald Trump is not.
When Biden was vice president, I was a pilot in the president’s helicopter squadron. Vice President Biden went home to Delaware on most weekends, and when he did, he took the train. He knew those of us who served the White House would get to spend more time with our families if he left town on the ground. He knew his actions would impact others and acted with empathy.
By contrast, President Trump seems incapable of empathy. For instance, when military service members leave the White House, tradition calls for a visit to the Oval Office with their family to take a picture with the president. Previous presidents have stood next to the family in front of the Resolute Desk. Trump does not. He sits behind the desk and has the family stand on either side of him. Further, President Trump has limited these opportunities in comparison to his predecessors. The military is nothing but a stage prop to him.
Trump weighs every action in terms of how it benefits him. He stokes fear about election fraud but does nothing to shore up the integrity of the election process. Trump tears down others to advance his own cause. No American hero, no ally and no sacred tradition is safe from Trump’s scorn if it stands in the way of his TV ratings or ego. This is anathema to our national spirit.
I disagree with many of Biden’s policies, but I’m ready to advocate for my positions after he’s elected. Biden should recognize, for example, the important role hydrocarbons and nuclear power must play in America’s future energy landscape, and not villainize these industries. He must resist the notion that there is a federal solution to every issue and avoid taxing the creativity out of our private sector. The good news is Biden is not beholden to a radical base like the Trump campaign wants you to believe. He’s already disowned a fracking ban. The most important thing, in my view, is ridding our great country of the most divisive, ill-informed, and inflammatory president of my lifetime and replacing him with someone who can bridge the gap to a brighter future.
Biden respects the norms of the republic and has a well-calibrated moral compass. He’ll listen to those who disagree on policy issues because, like me and other followers of Jesus, he can see value in every human whether they agree with him or not.
There is a reason so many Republicans from across the nation are endorsing Biden. It’s not because we all suddenly shifted left. It’s because we need someone to hold the reins steady so a new generation of leadership can take charge.
Trump has done more to damage the future of conservative thought in America than any Democrat could ever do. The road to rebuilding credibility in the Republican party starts when “we the people,” and our elected leaders, reject the morally bankrupt ideology that Trump represents.
Biden is the steady hand we need today so we can get to the tomorrow we all hope for.

Understand: That response tells us nothing about the GOP we did not already know. That it is one part thugocracy, one part kleptocracy and all hypocrisy unencumbered by principle has long been clear to any honest observer. But the events of the past few days offer vivid evidence of just how deep the rot extends.

Are there consequences for loss of life?
I've been asking myself this since the charges were announced for the officers associated with the murder of Breonna Taylor.
We, as a society, have all agreed that we should not murder each other. We all have a mutual understanding that you won't kill me and I won't kill you. We have agreed that loss of life should be punishable. We, as a society, have all agreed to give the state the power enforce our agreement and to punish people that violate our rules or default on our agreement.
Here, we have a young lady that lost her life at no fault of her own. She was innocent in whatever business that police had going on. What exactly is our remedy here? Someone violated the rules that we have all agreed to, and therefore, there should be a consequence.

If the events of the today in Louisville; the last few weeks and months in Missouri and Wisconsin; and the last four years across the country hasn't taught people that every level and branch of government matters, I don't know what will!
Frankly, it's exhausting telling people who complain about government not doing anything for them to get in the game.
