Pre-jacket poll: Melania Trump approval drops

Melania "Let them eat cake" Trump is becoming more unpopular. First ladies usually enjoy very high approval, but hers dropped "significantly" from 57% to 51% in the CNN poll, even before she wore a jacket implying she doesn't care about children separated from their parents at the border:

Businesses Received Federal Contracts to Care for Migrant Children

Source: Wall Street Journal

In the months before the Trump administration began its “zero-tolerance” policy that resulted in the separation of families at the Mexican border, the government awarded a flurry of contracts and grants to private companies and nonprofits to help run facilities for migrant children around the country.

No Changes Planned For Children Already Separated Under Trump Policy, HHS Spokesperson Says

Source: Buzzfeed

As President Donald Trump traveled to a campaign rally in Duluth, Minnesota, the federal agencies responsible for implementing the executive order he signed Wednesday to address the family separation crisis at the border were left figuring out what's next.

Although the executive order signing followed days of national outcry over the policy, it was not immediately clear what effect the order would have on new migrant families crossing the border — and a federal official said no changes are planned for those families already separated.

On the question of what happens to the more than 2,000 children already separated from their parent or parents over the past two months, the initial answer from the Department of Health and Human Services, which is responsible for "unaccompanied" minors, was that nothing would change.

What was the fucking point of this fucking order? These children will continue to be psychologically tortured and severely scarred for life.

Korean firm tied to Cohen got U.S. contract despite corruption probe

Source: Washington Post

A South Korean aviation firm that hired President Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen failed last year to disclose that it was the subject of a corruption investigation as it won work from the U.S. military, records show.

On Oct. 11, nine current and former executives at Korea Aerospace Industries were indicted in Seoul on charges that included bribery, embezzlement and defrauding the South Korean government, records show.

Just two weeks later, KAI cleared a business integrity review by the U.S Air Force and won a contract worth up to $48 million — its largest ever from the Air Force — to maintain fighter jets.

Experts said the criminal case should have subjected the company to additional scrutiny. But KAI did not alter filings it had previously submitted to the U.S. government certifying that none of its executives were under indictment, according to a public database of federal contracting information.

Trump to leave North Korea summit Tuesday instead of Wednesday

As Mike Pompeo lowers expectations, Trump's expected Wednesday departure has been moved to Tuesday night. What's going on?

The Associated Press reports Trump was originally scheduled to depart early Wednesday morning, however he will now leave Tuesday night after a day of meetings with Kim and other leaders of North Korea.

Trump is portraying this as "Talks are moving quicker than expected", without saying if any deal has been reached.

I think Trump got played. Kim will get his photo op.

USA on average charges higher tariffs than Canada

Donald Trump loves to cherry pick Canada's tariff on milk, but he won't day USA imposes a 163% tariff on peanuts, and more importantly,

Among the developed nations that make up the Group of 7 that met in a resort town near Quebec City over the weekend, the United States has tariffs that are slightly higher, on average, across all its imported products than Canada or Japan and exactly equivalent to the four European nations in the G-7.

Peter Navarro says 'there's a special place in hell' for Justin Trudeau

Source: CNN

Peter Navarro, a trade adviser to President Donald Trump, escalated the White House's rebuke of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, calling him weak and dishonest on Sunday.

"There's a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad faith diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump and then tries to stab him in the back on the way out the door," Navarro said on "Fox News Sunday."

He continued, "And that's what bad faith Justin Trudeau did with that stunt press conference. That's what weak, dishonest Justin Trudeau did, and that comes right from Air Force One."

Navarro's comments added to the White House's continued criticism of Trudeau, who said after Trump left the G7 summit that Canada would impose retaliatory measures to answer Trump's tariffs and warned that Canada would not be "pushed around."
